    UTOPIA PURE UTOPIA. This is my one and ONLY CRITICISM. This video should have been 2 HOURS 29 MINUTES AND ELEVEN SECONDS LONG. This is without doubt in the top three video's you have produced. The LONDON MIDLAND AND SCOTTISH RAILWAY was the biggest and the BEST. Having seen all these LOCOMOTIVES in this video the JINTY ,BLACK 5, PRINCESS CORONATION, PRINCESS ROYAL, 8F ,PATRIOT, ROYAL SCOT, JUBILEE AND CRAB that's why the L M S was the best. All those CLASSIC HORNBY WAGONS ,BRILLIANT. Top notch quality video of the highest order Sam you have Made my day. A BIG THANK YOU SAM 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🐖🐖♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🚄🚅

    Wonderful. Pretty nice to see the different variations of LMS crimson lake livery. My favourite were the pair of ex-MR compound locos double heading. A few quibbles: 1) the 8F has a star under her number (like WCR's 48151) which means she's capable of slightly higher speeds. By today's standards for mainline running 48151 should he limited to 35mph, but because she has improved wheel/motion balancing she's able to run at 50mph....which would've been about the same in BR days. 2) 43924 is a 4F in power classification, but her actual class is a MR 3835 (these differ from "proper" LMS 4F locos because they're right hand drive (all the LMS variants were left hand drive). 3) The Ivatt 4MT is indeed an LMS design, mostly built after nationalisation. After 01/01/1948 the LMS locos were renumbered to either the 4XXXX or 5XXXX series, whilst BR designs (like the Britannia's and 9Fs) carried numbers in the 7XXXX-9XXXX series. Brilliant show, Mr Sam. 👍

    I love the LMS locos, because they were all special to me, because they all used to run trains near my home and when I was younger, I saw the Duchess Of Hamilton on the main line, before it’s exhibit at York and I actually have the Duchess Of Sutherland and Princess Margaret Rose at The Midland Railway Centre at Butterley, and that is near my home. And I have seen the Duchess of Sutherland at Derby station during a tour last summer on a tour from Derby to London and from London to Edinburgh via Derby the following day.

    The ivatt class 4 was an LMS design but only 3 were built before nationalization and the rest were built under BR ownership. They later formed the bases for the standard class 4, which Incorporated may of the same design features. Originally they were built with double chimneys but due to poor steaming, they were fitted with single ones. Happily one of them number 43106 has survived into preservation.

    Hi Sam. Another good video. Can't beat the Jinty when it comes to tank engines. You mentioned buying a load of LMS coaches at a fair and it got me thinking... I'm doing the same at the moment, trying to bulk up my rolling stock, but I always shy away from anything other than Hornby... probably due to having some bad wagons when I was a kid. I don't know if you have a mixture of different makes of rolling stock, but a one off video reviewing Bachmann vs Hornby coaches, wagons etc for instance might be of interest? Keep up the good work!

    Thanks a lot Alan - yeah the Jinty has to be the backbone of the LMS! Yes that would be great actually - though to be honest, I don't believe I have any modern top of the range coaches - I tend to go with the much older stuff! The only modern coaches I have are ones that came from train packs - and even those tend to be a few years old! :D Thanks for watching - Sam :)

    Strongly recommend that you replace those washers with new ones. You will incur irreparable damage if not replaced, as the rotor of the motor will grind the bushing plates into oblivion. Making them would be quite simple, but watch for thickness. Too thick will cause binding. Too thin will allow excessive axial motion, although the grinding will still be prevented with a "too thin" washer

  • @SamsTrains

    @SamsTrains

    6 жыл бұрын

    Yeah I know it isn't ideal - but I think I'll try them as they are, and if things go wrong in the future, I'll just bite the bullet and replace the motors - I don't fancy taking them apart again, since the grips that hold the casing are getting a bit soft! Thanks for watching - Sam :)

    Sam'sTrains : There's always "next time"! As it has occurred twice for you already, there is likely to be a third and forth time. You will find the price of a thrust washer to be a pitance compared to the price of a new motor! Thanks for all the videos Sam, they are delightful.

    Surprised you don't have more Black 5s, I would think you'd have 3 by now (technically Hornby Henry is a Black 5, but the character is actually just a very similar design that was rebuilt with a belpaire firebox. Hornby's finally releasing another Black 5 in LMS lined Black, I've been waiting for it but might not get it, scratch building my favorite class seems appealing. Good to hear about your Patriot Sam, not exactly good when your loco's knackered haha. Yes, I would love for you to review a Super D (surprised I never thought of that little joke hehe) as I was thinking of getting one, I should probably check the shed allocations of the class but being in America won't exactly help you with UK information haha. You did get the Ivatt Class 4MT correct, it would be pretty rare to find one in LMS livery in the steam era as Ivatt was the LMS' last CME before nationalization. If you think the G2As look weird with their 0-8-0 formation, take a look at Chesapeake and Ohio 0-8-0s and Norfolk and Western 0-8-0s (N&W rebuilt some C&O 0-8-0s to create the S1 class but started making there own S1a based off that so they look the same). Glad you included the Jubilee, the Royal Scot, and the Crab, they're staple LMS locomotives. Great job on this video and I hope to see more.

    *Before video starts* THE CRAB IS GOING TO BE MY FAVORITE!! *After finishes* The crab is still my favorite even though it didn't technically run! :P I know a lot of folks prefer the various shades of green for their locomotives but LMS maroon really stands out for me! Ironically I don't even have an LMS loco! Closest I have is a 2-6-4 tank but its in BR black. :( I absolutely love that maroon Crab though I would love to get my hands on one at some point, its such a powerful looking engine and the maroon really brings out its character imo.

    In north America, 8 driver engines are very common, 0-8-0 is generally reserved for tank engines and shunters, but configurations like 2-8-2, 2-8-0, 4-8-4 are the most common. ( www.rrpicturearchives.net/pictures/21231/CN_6060_TV760703S1646u.jpg ) CN 6060 is my personal favourite engine, and it has a configuration of 4-8-2, and it still runs today!

    Heey Sam I have 2 little questions, 1. How can I clean my h0 bachmann Thomas the best way? 2. How can I open my hornby Percy. And how to clean him the best way? I hope you know the answer. -Brian

  • @SamsTrains

    @SamsTrains

    6 жыл бұрын

    Hi Brian, With the Bachmann Thomas locos - you'll want to remove the body, and try to find a way to power the motor directly - this should allow the wheels to turn for cleaning. Equally, try turning him upside down, attatching power leads to a small piece of track, and touch the track against two wheels and clean the rest while they turn! The Hornby percy is tricky when it comes to body removal - is there a screw on the base? If not, you'll want to carefully ease the body off with a screwdriver at the front! Thanks for watching - Sam :)
