Fun fact: when john Goodman received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Bridges got up and said a few words. While doing so, he opened up a bag he brought with him, and pulled out - and put on, the sweater that he wears in this film, and goes into the character of The Dude, and finishes his speech.

Jeff Bridges was not in Tombstone, but if you do want to see him star in a really good western, also directed by the Coens, check out True Grit. The Coens tend to reuse actors they like a lot a whole bunch though so generally, if you watch more of their films you’ll notice a lot of the same faces. I definitely encourage you to watch more of their films. O Brother Where Art Thou? Is probably next on the list if you want something fun and easy to just enjoy, though Raising Arizona is also a popular choice for their lighter films. If you want something more intense and challenging, consider No Country for Old Men. Beyond that, though they’re not as commonly reacted to, a few others well worth considering are Barton Fink, Miller’s Crossing and The Hudsucker Proxy.

I get the confusion between Jeff Bridges and Kurt Russell. When they were really young they got cast in similar roles. Eventually Russell got more of a reputation for tougher characters while Bridges had more of a chill comedic energy. Now that they are old men, they've kinda gone back to getting cast in similar roles again. Russell has softened a little with age and Bridges has tiny bit more bite as an older man.

This is my favorite movie of all time. Not only is it funny as hell but it is filled with nuances and call backs to other Coen Brothers films. Each time you rewatch this movie you catch more and more of the genius in this movie. So many subtle moments in the editing, the writing, the acting. So much brilliance in one movie. One example is the way Walter tells Donny to always “shut the fuck up”. This is a call back to Steve Buscemi’s character from Fargo that would talk constantly and never shut up. I have seen this movie probably 500 times and it is still hilarious!

The Coens just have a knack for making movies where incompetent people's plans go spectacularly bad 😅 ETA: Wanted to add that this film has gained the sort of status that every year there's a convention called the Lewbowskifest where fans gather to watch a screening of the movie and they're encouraged to dress up as the characters. When it came to NYC in 2011 the main stars reunited just for the event. It was the only one I'd ever attended but I had such a great time, and even had my photo taken for a website that labeled me a Steve Buscemi groupie because I was wearing a t-shirt with his face in a huge red heart.

Welcome to the twisted world of Joel and Ethan Coen. Not only do they blend all manner of classic film genres into a unique style all their own, they do so in ways that keep even die hard fans on their toes. You truly never know what to expect. As different as Fargo and Lebowski are, they made them back to back. Their characters are facing moral struggles in an amoral world. If you go back for a third movie, you'll truly fall in love with their musical comedy, O Brother, Where Art Thou? It's like a retelling of The Odyssey with bluegrass music! ☮❤

Jeff Bridges and John Goodman are perfect odd-couple, complete opposites and yet best of friends. And I'm siding on one fan theory I head about this movie: like the Seinfeld TV show, it's a film where the plot is about nothing. And that's a good thing because you can put everything into it. On my own personal opinion, I think Sam Elliot is a guardian angel watching out for the Dude, like Clarence in It's a Wonderful Life.

Smokey ("You're over the line, Smokey") is played by Jimmie Dale Gilmore. He's a famous country singer/songwriter living right here in Austin, Texas. He was a founding member of The Flatlanders, along with Joe Ely and Butch Hancock. Their initial incarnation in '72 - '73 wasn't very commercially successful, but they each then became famous on their own, making subsequent band appearances very much anticipated. They still get together now and again. Their first recording project is now recognized as a milestone of progressive alternate country.

I think they're most famous in the US for their covers of "Hotel California" and "Violare" (you may have heard Dean Martin sing it). Their "Mosaique" (Mosaic) is a gorgeous and astonishing instrumental with (as always) masterful guitar work. "Vamos a Bailar" (Let's Dance) has these percussion breakdowns you'd absolutely love. 34:13 The entire film pays homage to hard-boiled fiction and noir fiction. In particular, the confused plot (but also many other details) refer to Raymond Chandler. The scene where the Malibu police chief throws the coffee cup at the Dude's forehead is a reference to Chandler's novel “The Long Good-bye”: In the novel, during an interrogation, private investigator Philip Marlowe manages to dodge the thrown coffee cup (although he is handcuffed), but instead is punched in the neck by the captain conducting the interrogation. The character of the brutal police chief could also have been designed by Chandler.
