Chrysler products of the period did have the best roadability. The thing I miss though is that pretty much all Detroit cars had a very distinguishable appearance. You didn’t confuse them with their competitors. I also really miss the very broad range of colors.

My father had a 59 Plymouth. It rode nice but it was a dog. It had the slant 6 that couldn't get out of its way and the brakes would fade on high speed stops

Agreed. I think it was the end of a three year-body type cycle, things changed dramatically in 1960-61. LOL the comment the narrator makes about the Plymouth's modern styling, us knowing that, in retrospect, this model was practically the death knell for fins and excess…

Each carmaker was just as stupid as the next, with freakish, impractical styling that had to be changed every few years and all of it was incredibly wasteful. Compare any of these rolling juke-boxes to a 1977 Chevrolet, a 1979 Ford or even a 1981 K-Car, and tell me which you'd rather have! If I could go back in time, I'd take a 1978 Chevrolet Malibu.

U.S. carmakers somehow assumed that this was, if not what the public wanted, what the public needed. It baffles me how the U.S. companies always changed model styling so drastically from year to year; in Europe, carmakers let design evolution happen gradually, certain models might retain their body style for up to 10 years, with only minor alterations (grill changes, mechanical improvements…) every year. Think Peugeot 403 - same body from 1955 to 1966. Enzo Ferrari drove a Peugeot 403 as his personal car.
