The BIG Craft Bag/ Market Tote Bag Tutorial with Multi Pockets

Tote Bag Tutorial with Pockets - After our last craft class we realized we needed a better way of taking our sewing bits and pieces with us, so we designed this large craft bag. It's big and has loads of pockets. We love it.

    I love this huge utility bag perfect for all my craft needs when I go to events and such, just a question I don't want to make it reversible what are the measurements and fabric I need?

  • @alandacraft

    @alandacraft

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Melanie Smith If you don't want it reversible, this implies that you don't want a lining. Without a lining the seams will show and it won't be as sturdy because you will not have the interfacing. Also, the handles would need to be attached in a different manner so basically it would be nothing like the original. However, the measurements for the outside of the bag are on the website here if you still want to give it a go. www.alandacraft.com/the-very-big-craft-bag-by-alanda-craft/

    We used fusible fleece for this bag, but you can also use batting. Probably a low loft batting would be the best thing to use, you don't want anything too thick. We use warm & natural for most of our projects. warmcompany.com/. Here is a link to the written tutorial for you www.alandacraft.com/2014/08/12/the-very-big-craft-bag-by-alanda-craft/

    +Bill Stokes We used fusible fleece in this bag, but you could also use just quilting batting. Either will work well but the fusible fleece was easy to work with because once it was ironed on it just stayed in place, which was ideal when working with such a big bag.

    How do you keep the lining from coming out/up when you pull items out? I figured that the lining would be stitched to the bottom at the corners

  • @alandacraft

    @alandacraft

    4 жыл бұрын

    I haven't ever had a problem with this. The lining is heavy and it fits well enough so that it stays put. After reading your comment I tested the bag and found I had to really pull at the lining to separate it and pull it out.

    i love how big the tote is, but i would like to widen it and turn it into a market bag. how do I go about it ?

  • @alandacraft

    @alandacraft

    7 жыл бұрын

    I think you will find this one is huge. To widen it you will need to adjust the size at the bottom to whatever size you want your gusset to be and adjust the side panels to the same sizel. This will probably shorten the bag so you will want to add some inches to the height. I find this bag is quite big enough for the market any bigger I would be putting too much into it and it would be too heavy to carry.

    I have Ultra Firm Heavyweight sew-in stabilizer by HTC Retail Division. Would that work for the interfacing?

  • @alandacraft

    @alandacraft

    9 жыл бұрын

    Dana Fucella I feel that this stabiliser could be too firm for this bag. We used a medium weight interfacing. You might find that a heavyweight interfacing may make it more difficult to turn the bag through plus it may be too stiff to work with when sewing the rounded part of the gusset to the bag.

    Sounds like your machine needs a good oiling, it's way too squeaky and loud. Your sewing machine will cost you a lot to have it fix for something that is simple to do. The tote is pretty cool though. Hard to watch you sew with the loud machine which takes away your message.

    Well, you might want to mute it while you're sewing for your viewers. I tried to mute it but was afraid I would miss something. I have a Serger and a sewing machine (10 plus yrs old) never had to serviced because I keep it lubed/oiled. Too bad you can't make this more enjoyable for people like me who are looking for different ways to make a tote. I'll take some of your hints because they are neat but other steps are not needed when one has Serger.
