Biggest arc of the year so far is going from not liking Finn, to liking him more and more with each vid lol. 10/10 would invite Finn to the cookout. Finn would be the type to bring a bottle to the cookout just to be nice, but you ask him to have a drink with you, and he'll say " nah I don't drink man but enjoy". Hed be polite but quiet the whole time, and when you ask him to stay later, hed tell you something like "I can't bro I really gotta get going, we had a great time" and you ask him we gta do this another time, he'd say "definitely" but you'd never see him again.

First time I heard Preach in Macy's it floored me, I couldn't believe how unique and catchy it was. Whole album is like that just filled to the brim with memorable moments and hooks. I'm not sure when you streamed this, so it may have been released after you recorded this video, but I would have liked to see Pupil Slicer's Blossom on this list. I happen to really like how they sound influenced by early 2000's mathcore without sounding like a cheap knockoff. I definitely think that this album shows growth in their song writing, even though it's only their second album, and I think the standout song on that album is The Song at Creation's End.

It’s interesting to me that, on paper, Sleep Token checks a lot of the boxes that Finn claims to want in modern metal. The vocals are great and a lot of their music is super poppy, they write legit songs not just riff salad, the lore and costumes make them distinct and enhance the entertainment experience. Also, despite not speaking, the live performances and social media presence show the members, esp vessel, have a lot of charisma. No hate, you’re certainly not obligated to like them because of all that, but just a little funny to me.

Bilmuri is the closest thing to a "true artist" that I've found in the alternative scene, tbh. The songs are brilliantly done, everything feels so tongue-in-cheek, there are little jokes sprinkled everywhere for the people who grew up in the alternative scene in the 00's, AND he's a meme lord, all while making sure it all feels so incredibly genuine at the same time. This opinion speaks volumes for me right now when the most refreshing thing to hear instrumentally is bands like Kublai Kahn TX and Gideon choosing to hold back on their guitars and letting drummers/bassists do their thing. Gives this really chunky hip hop feel that makes you want to move.

Finn, i would highly recommend taking a real look at Sleep Tokens discography & how they have developed over time. I say that because the way you described their music & the reasons you gave for why you don't think they are the next big thing are simply not accurate to the band irl. Yeah, they def have a handful of longer songs on the new album, & i get that that's a completely subjective preference. But (esp on their new album) they have straight up pop songs, they have rock/metal songs that are formally structured & will easily land radio time. songs like Rain & The Apparition immediately come to mind. But yeah, from everything i've heard you say about ST over the past year or so, I'm getting the vibe that you've listened to maybe 1 or 2 songs off each record and felt like you had them figured out. Which if that's the case, you're sadly mistaken. But i could also be dead wrong about that, it's really just a hunch.

When Finn said it's great that Sleeptoken played to 1,200 people at your local town. Meanwhile, back in the UK they be selling out Wembley Arena in less than 10 mins. I, like Finn, was on the fence about them. Seeing them live supporting Architects made me get the live appeal but I still felt the songs where kinda mid even if their performance was great. Their last album is pretty solid though and now I'm just excited to see how big they can possibly get. It would be cool if they got to the stage of doing multiple sold out UK arena dates and headlining Download or something on that level. A big dub for modern rock.

On two sides of a spectrum for me i personally never listened to a lot of the big metal bands other than PWD, BMTH, Ghost Inside and Killswitch I just never cared to venture into the genre but in the last year or two I got into Architects and few other bands. Bury Tomorrow was one the stands to me can't explain but last year the guitarist & clean vocalist Jason left just as I was getting into the band then guitarist Ed Hartwell and Tom Prendergast joined and to me it was like when Jordan Fisk joined BMTH---something I didn't know I'd like especially with new album The Seventh Sun. I don't its anything different, super grand or re-defining to metalcore. Just simply done well and catchy and at least when straying to a sound the band has ever before its a welcome surprise like 'Majesty'. Just another dece metal album (proly mid-tier amongst other releases in metal idk) that I'll be replaying for the rest of the year. On the other side of the spectrum had me geeking out cause Acoss the Spider-verse had acting like it was Jesus's second coming and a big part of it was the artist soundtrack which wasn't on my bucket list. And I think the the Spider-verse OST was dope What's Up Danger, Hide, Start a Riot and another I think was Sunflower. I wasn't expecting anything to top that but personally Metro Boomin came outta left field delivering. Gimme more Swae Lee too. Some many dope features and big variety. I dont know if better than the first soundtrack overall but its in my repeat. Prepare for an impeccable vibe. Edit: also just wanted to note Finn, you've been a big impact on me in just the past few years since I discovered your content. 'Preicate your work, advice and influence.

I feel like a big part of the reason why rock isn't as relevant anymore is because seemingly no one wants to make power pop anymore. It's good to have pop sensibility in rock but that doesn't mean adding trap beats or electronic shit in there! When I say "power pop" I'm talking about Weezer's first album, My Chemical Romance's big hits, Kings of Leon, Snow Patrol, music like that. Not completely boring to the point of Coldplay territory and no silly rap or electronic influence either (again unlike Coldplay lmao). There's a super obscure band from New Zealand I recently stumbled across called Bleeding Star that essentially makes Blue Album-style power pop with a bit of shoegaze influence. The world needs more bands like Bleeding Star, Paramore, Black Midi and Wet Leg in it and less bands like Imagine Dragons, Coldplay or Polyphia.

On the topic of Sleep Token: I really don't understand why you don't like them more? They're not the typical cookie-cutter metal band doing the same exact music as everyone else. They're pushing the envelope, and making heavy music more accessible to a general audience. Isn't that Finn's whole thing? I'm not demanding that he needs to worship (no pun intended) Sleep Token, but when a band starts blowing up, you shouldn't immediately think, "they're not going to become the biggest band in the world, so why should I even care?" If it's just not your preference in music taste, that's a good enough reason. Just don't dismiss them because you don't understand why they're so popular. Also, they sold out Wembley Stadium in less than 15, so you missed the mark on that prediction lol...

I look at Bring Me the Horizon and Avenged Sevenfold as kind of two sides of the same coin. Both of them just make whatever they want, but A7X has the attitude of "if a significant portion of our fanbase doesn't fucking hate our newest music, we're doing something wrong." They want people to hate their music. BMTH may have been that way with Amo, but now it's like they're trying to make new friends with everything they release. Sure, some of their fans want them to release Sempiternal 2.0, and BMTH throws them a bone every once in a while when they feel like it, but they do want to be the cool kids at the party. And that's also cool.
