The best way to remove paint on brick inside + Testing different methods for taking paint off brick
I tested a combination of different methods for removing paint from our brick fireplace - spray CitriStrip, paint on CitriStrip, drill brushes, plastic and metal brushes, rubbing alcohol.
My favorite method was to use a combination of CitriStrip and a wire brush dipped in water to help the paint ball up and fall off. In this video I show my different tactics and show how to use my favorite method to remove paint.

You’re doing Gods work on this one! Why people choose to paint over natural brick, stone or wood is beyond me! Especially white which is going to get filthy as soon as you use the fireplace! Why cover something beautiful with something boring? Your fireplace looks gorgeous! Well done!

Same! It drives me nuts when people paint over brick, especially white paint. LIKE WHY!?!?!?!?

I think I found something worse than white paint… previous homeowners painted the brick with a red paint 🤮 still deciding whether it’s worth it to strip the paint off or demo it all and start over since the brick goes all of the way up to the ceiling.
A life saver! Was struggling with different products including CitriStrip, which turned out to be a technique issue. Once I got the wire brush and water it came off with ease.
I’ve got two brick fireplaces that were painted. This helps me to imagine what they can look like.
Gonna have to do this when My grandparents pass, we had this beautiful brick Fireplace for decades before I was born & one day out of nowhere my grandmother wanted it painted white because she didn't like how dark it made the room look, so we painted it, now I'm gonna have to strip it after they're gone because I do not like it, sadly it will probably never look as good as it did before we painted it.
Thank you for figuring this out for me! I am grateful for your hard work and honest analysis of different methods. You’re a blessing!
Thanks for blazing the trail. You answered a lot of questions I was asking. Citrus strip it is!
Looks way better, great job
Thank you so much!!!!
Thanks for walking this through! Very helpful as I'm getting ready to remove white from my brick fireplace!
Painting brick is a trend that I wish would stop
Thank you. I too have a white painted fireplace and ready to strip it off.
Great job I have to do the same job in my bathroom , thank you great video 🇨🇦
Nice work,I'll start soon.
Great video. I think I'm going to try your method but follow with a hard, bristle brush cleaning after. Looking forward to the final product video???
Great video - thanks!
Also looking to strip the white paint off my fireplace (previous owner painted), but I kinda like the washed look that came out when you used the plastic brush. What kind of plastic brush did you use?
Thank you!
Thanks for this. The chimney in my home is white and horribly painted (drips all over). Now I can fix that mess.
OMG, thank you so so much. I have the same challenge, white brick and it looks as ugly as sin. Thanks to you, now I know what to do.
Great job! For the next time you can use a putty knife to scrape the first layer off. After that use the wire brush. Clean with a pressure washer (if possible, otherwise rinse with a scrub pad) and go again.
Love it. Painted brick is so boring/blah.
thank you so much! just bought a house that has a lovely cozy brick porch, but someone painted it all over with lime green paint. not super looking foreward to stripping that....at least white looks okay 😂
Did you not do any kind of rinse pr wipe down when you were done?
Thank you
Thank you🙏
How long did you end up leaving the citristrip on before wire brushing? I have multiple layers of paint but you just helped convince me to try!

I have the same question! How long did it take you to complete this project?

Pretty sure she said she waited 30 min in the video
Looks like it would be beneficial to completely tape off the area, create a paint removal safe environment around the fireplace using painters tarp and tape and then also protecting yourself with proper garments (gloves, paint wear, masks etc) and then using the automatic attachments
Awesome video, thank you! But please please tie your hair up when using the drill, I got so nervous watching it get so close to the spinning bit, it wouldn’t be fun to get a piece stuck in the drill!
Any time you're working with power tools, you should tie your hair back or in a bun.
Um, really, you neglected to cover the areas that you didn't want the solution touching? What is this, your first DIY home project?

It's her house, relax. You're not the one that has to fix the issue.

Yeah she addressed that immediately in the video. Is this your rental property or something?
