Great job Ricky!! I love how whitewashing can preserve natural look of brick, but help change up the tone to fit better with personal decor preference! Solid tutorial Thanks!
Thank you!! I just did this over the weekend. I kept enough of the Adobe block showing through to keep the character, but toned down the orange tone completely. My living room looks 20 years newer! Bye-bye 1980s! Took me less than an hour and since I had leftover wall paint to use it didn’t cost me a dime!

Way to go, Dawn!! That's great to hear.
This is exactly the look I pictured. My husband watched your tutorial and will whitewash our brick this week per your technique. Thank you!!!
Love how you kept your shirt clean! The best finish Ive seen. Good job.
I finally gave this a go and it turned out amazing. Really changed the room. Awesome video, great instructions.
What a great video. The very best I’ve seen so far; it covered everything I want to apply to my fireplace project. Thank you!!! Also it was the last video I needed to watch to give me that boost to start!!
This is really nice! I can’t wait do it on my brick fireplace. Thanks!!
Thank you. I'm doing this this weekend. Great job!
Thank you for your tutorial!! Great job explaining. I love the look!
Thanks much - doing this to our exact look-alike fireplace in a couple minutes.
Thanks for the video! Love the look. Like an old French farmhouse. Will be doing this to mine. I absolutely hate painted brick, but this look enhances the brick as far as I'm concerned.
Looks so much better. Great job 🏆🏆🏆
Way to go Ricky!!!!!
Great video, Ricky! I have a see-through fireplace so have two to do! Wish me luck!

I wish I new how to up load a photo for all your viewers. It did take me two days first day about 4 hours and 2nd day about 4 hours including cleanup . Thank you again for being a inspiration 🙏
Great video. Very helpful!
Looks good and easy enough to tackle myself😬 It definitely encourages me to try it
Thank you..Great Job explaining

Very nice!
Great video
THANK YOU!
It does look good
Awesome video
I was so worried about your nice shirt, but you did great!
Thank You
Great video very informative
Can you do a video on how to update a stone fireplace ...I would love to change the look of my outdated stone fireplace!
I tried to move my brick fireplace to the garage to avoid breathing paint fumes, and then my house collapsed. I used a 1:4 paint to water ratio, which has a nice translucency.

I painted my fireplace white and it looked terrible. Your tip on using a sponge and a darker color made all the difference in the world. I love it now!

What if my fireplace is already painted in dark brown? What do you think I should do?

@@ValerieGagne97 I didn't rewatch the video but he said if it's already painted, he will give you some pointers at the end of the video. For me it took playing around with a different color to really make it look nice.
This video was great, thank you! I painted our ugly red brick fireplace a dark brown 8 years ago, but I'd like it more distressed. I think white wash will do just the trick to update it a bit. Can't wait to try it out! ♥
That's exactly what I want :)))
Well, I like it. You did a great job with no unnecessary talking, too. What type of paint did you use? This is on my DIY list for sure!

Nice paint effect. I am so tempted to try this on my taupe brick floor to ceiling fireplace. It always felt a bit dark in the room.

Go for it, +Swan Nest!!
Good stuff
Very simple step-by-step instructions. I used this technique with a 3 parts water to 1 part paint and like the light cover. However, it looks a little "chalky." Any suggestions to make it look more..."permanent" and less chalky?
Lemme ask..when you use the fireplace, will the whitewash get sooty? Love the look!! Thanx for this video.
This would have been so helpful when we lived at our old house and had an old brick fireplace that spanned the entire wall on one side 😭😭
My house was built in the 60’s and I’m changing all the flooring out to light tan ceramics. I can’t wait to whitewash the fireplace to go with the new light interior! I also have a brick entryway, but those bricks appear shiny like there’s a sealant on it. How can I get that off or paint over it without risking it being ruined by foot traffic?
Would you add a protective coat, say acrylics, to the hearth especially if traffic is expected?
Will you do a video on painting or staining a concrete front porch?

JustJennie definitely interested in this as well
Thank you. so primer is not needed for whitewashing technique?
Would this work on faux brink panel?
What kind of paint do you use if you already have a painted fireplace - flat latex?
Thanx for the video. Wonderful job. Is there any particular paint for this job or just regular paint?

Wait I can’t find the description below to tell me what products to use

Me either
I prefer to lime wash instead of paint and then seal with a tile sealer.
Reminds me of a bad 70s decorating idea.
My question is how long will this last? Is this something I'll have to do every few years? I've heard something about bricks needs to breathe 🤷🏻♀️
Why u did that? It was so nice.
Brick is much nicer than whitewash. What's the best technique to remove it?
What type of paint do you use?

The description shows the chip brush and TSP, but no mention of the type of paint. You wouldn’t just use latex interior paint would you?

I tried this method and now my fireplace looks horrible 😢 i wish i would of used chalk paint instead of latex paint the latex paint wont come off the brick no matter how much i scrub and i dont want to use a paint stripper because of the strong chemical fumes.
I don’t see the link for what kind of paint you use?

@@lowes. All I see in the description is the chip brush and TSP. No paint listed. Please advise.
OKAY good job.....but why on earth did you white wash the hearth first...always top down....
So technically not whitewash? I thought it was going to be something like the old school stuff (lime and water or chalk and water).
@ChronicBongitis420

Still a great video though. keep up the good work.
I thought you couldn't paint brick because it doesn't allow it to breathe. Instead, a lime wash is used. But this isn't a limewash, is it?
"let's start with a brand new unused fireplace just like everyone has"
I watched this cause of The meaning lol
If you decide to do this hire someone who knows enough to use a lime based paint. Latex is absolutely the wrong stuff to use on brick.
I’m sorry but that did Not take an hour. More like a few hours!
Didn't like it.
You should be using something better than the 75-cent paintbrush. They perform like absolute s***.
That looks horrible????
Why would you deface beautiful brickwork like that? A very skilled bricklayer spent a lot of time doing that, and (almost) anybody can put up drywall. And don't give me the "the room is too dark and wanted to lighten it up" crap. Paint the walls a lighter colour. You can always repaint the wall but you can't get the exposed brick look back.
@ChronicBongitis420

I was thinking the same thing. It would probably be better to stain it a different color if you didn't like it that way.

Once the brick-layer is paid, i don't think they give a crap what you do to YOUR bricks after...
Sorry but it looks crappy more paint would be alot better. God bless.

Nope. Latex paint will NOT allow the masonry to breath. Painting brick is done by armatures.
That Fireplace Paint job is absolutely Ghastly! Not appealing at all!
Should change this title to how to ruin beautiful bricks.
I think it looked way better before. He ruined it.
