Best tip! Thank you. I made this tonight and added soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, beef bouillon, garlic powder, comino, onion powder and pepper and cooked it in a pan. It tastes like meat. :)

So the “correct” way to prepare TVP actually is to drain it…? But but just to drain it multiple times?

"You have to really be a strong ethical vegan to eat this taste and share it," I LOLd, what a line

I can't be the only one wondering how much of the nutrients are being washed away with this method.

I don't know why you think TVP has a bad taste. It's yum, I just dump it in dry to my soups/broths/casseroles and cook till its re-hydrated. No need for all that, it tastes like soy lol soy doesn't taste bad.

Ok so I did wash my tvp the way you do. My mistake is that right now it is sitting in a bowl of marmite broth. You said it will bring out the tvp flavor again and I think you are slightly correct. Its just that marmite is so strong a flavor you can’t really tell. I will try another batch and dry season after washing and see. Thanks for the tip! A little new info goes a long way😀

Thank you! So screen out the dust, rinse several times like rice, squeeze as much liquid out of it as possible. Then flavor with mostly dry ingredients. Sauté in oil. Got it!

I'm glad that I watched your video before making it. The others did it the way you said not to. Thanks!

great tip, thanks. i'm new to cooking with TVP and a little bit of prep went a long way. i found myself using a lime squeezer to squeeze the TVP in the final round of squeezing. it sounds tedious but i only had to do it 6-8 times for 130g of dry TVP.
