    If you are upgrading an old record collection to higher-grade inner sleeves, make sure you clean the records (if necessary) before changing out the sleeves. Putting a dirty record in the new sleeve will only transfer the dust/debris/paper fibers to the new sleeve.

    These are great sleeves indeed. I think the 4 mil resealables are the best on the market. I still think the Sleeve City Ultimate Inner Sleeves are better than any of VSS's. However, I generally buy a plain white record jacket, put the record in the jacket, place the manufacturers cover in the sleeve, reseal it, and place the white cover in the back flap. The crystal clear inners look interesting though.

    I'm a firm believer in hybrid paper-poly sleeves at this point. The plastic ones shown here work great and look amazing, but would likely be very expensive, and over time may bubble or warp. My main gripe with rice paper or MoFi style inner sleeves is that they provide virtually 0 scratch resistance. Say you're replacing a record, and you place your vinyl into a rice paper sleeve and place it carefully on the table. While you're inserting it, your glasses slip off your nose and lands on your record or you accidentally scrape your watch/ring across the record. Nightmare scenario but accidents happen! Which sleeves would offer the most protection? MoFi sleeves wouldn't prevent any bumps, dents, or dinks from appearing in my opinion, whereas a thick paper sleeve with anti static plastic lining is the preferred.

    Hey, I don't know much about vinyl but why keep the vinyl out of their paper jacket? Like, is that a traditional method of storage? I've also seen sellers place the vinyl out of their paper jacket during shipping as well, if sold used of course, but never really questioned it until now. Thanks in advance!

    the record can get scuffed up/scratched when it comes in and out of the jacket (especially if you happen to play it a lot,) which is why lots of people store their records outside of the jackets. same principle for shipping, there's less of a chance of the record getting damaged if it doesn't get scuffed/staticky from the jacket. hope this helps!

  • @k-dogg711

    @k-dogg711

    Abby Wilson Huh. I guess I never looked at it this way. I always assumed it was to prevent wear on the jacket, or potential warping in shipping... not to prevent scuffs to the record itself. To me, putting the record in the jacket protects the record much more than a thin layer of a plastic outer/inner sleeve...

  • @abigaildevoe

    I don't like a record out of the jacket. With all of the weight of the lp's...it will cause the record to leave a inner record ring wear from the edge of the record. Inner meaning the edge of the record is leaving a indentation on the surface of the jackets. Outer would be from the inside to the outside of the jacket, cause the record is pressing from the inside of the jacket towards the outside.

    When I saw the title, I thought this was going to be about the actual album covers. In which case I was going to say the worst cover design would have to go to David Bowie's Blackstar. That big cut out star section was just so annoying, I was always getting other records caught on it (eventually tearing it). I've since put it in a plastic sleeve which I probably should have done in the first place, but even so, it was a stupid design and didn't even look that good.
