I've had the Emmrod system for about a decade. Hands down the most versatile out there. Virtually indestructible, they have many different styles and configurations. I've used reels from ultra light to a 4000 series. Fresh and salt water. Panfish to Snook! This year I'm focusing on land a Bull redfish on it!

Good vid and comparison. For years, I used an old fashioned CB antenna as a backpacking fishing rod. The spring provided just the right "give" and the long base was simple to tape a reel on. I removed the end eye from an older broken rod and used it on the tip of the antenna. It made a good, light, very packable rod and reel. I caught many fish on that ultralight rig -- including an 5 lb. catfish.

I'm surprised you didn't show how the Emmrod is broken down and stored. I use to sell them and that was one of the neat tricks to show for getting a sale. People didn't think the rod tip came out. Twist, pull out, reverse tip and it slides on making it even smaller in length to fit inside a backpack or even your pants pocket depending on its size. Expensive, yes. However it's one of those things you'll be glad you spent the extra money on.

Let me just say that I respect and appreciate your service in the military thank you. I have watched a couple of your videos where you are discussing the problems you are having with KZread. I had always watched what I was interested, wanting to learn, in and not what was entertaining. That is how I came to subscribe to your channel. I feel you are one of the best teachers on KZread, and I learn easily from you. After listening to you talk about KZread supporting some channels more then others I was shocked at myself for being so gullible. I started paying attention to how many commercials were posted on the videos that I watch, and how many times I see certain videos come up on KZread posts. I have always wondered how some channels have 100,000 views when just posted and others have a few. Everything I heard you say was in fact correct. Therefore I have decided to support your channel more ie entertainment type videos. I am a retired nurse starting to prep and bushcraft. Even though I have camped my entire life. I would really like to learn more about fishing. Thanks again. 👍🏻

I have a couple Emmrods. They are particularly good for fishing from a canoe when there are a lot of overhanging trees. There is actually a "slingshot" technique you can use to shoot your lure in low. I also use a Ronco Pocket Fisherman just for laughs - it's actually pretty decent.

First of all; I am absolutely thrilled that you used a Super-Duper as a lure. I was born in 1964, and haven't heard that name in decades. Bravo! Secondly: I like the (guessing at the spelling) M-Rod design, because you have a choice of rod strength. You're right about the cost versus options evaluation. One of my all time favorites is a solid pan-sized rainbow. However, if I can swap the rig out to land a decent Steelhead, I'm all in. Especially, for an ultralight rig. P.S. Nice camera work. Carry on ...

  • @harrkev

I have had the Emmrod for a few years, and LOVE it. However, I recommend the spin-cast version. Spinning reels are nicer, but when jamming in a backpack, the bail can get bent or broken. So you either need to keep the reel in a case of some kind, or just get a more sturdy reel. The spincast version allows for the reel handle to be easily removed, and then the whole thing goes into a pack without worry of breaking. Also, Diawa makes the "Mini-Spin." The rod breaks down into five pieces, and the whole thing (including reel) goes into a small plastic case. It is nicer to fish with, but takes more effort to put together or take apart.

My favorite rod is the Eagle Claw Pack Rod. It comes in it's own aluminum tube with a screw on cap and a sock to put all the rod parts in. The great part about the Eagle Claw rod is that with the bottom piece, you can put it on either way. One way is for a fly fishing reel, the other way I use a bait casting reel. Spinning reels don't work well at all as all the eyelets are too small for the loops the spinning reels make coming off the reell spool when casting. I think I've go 5 of those Eagle clay rod kits now. I find them at yard sale once in a while. I see the aluminum tube first, pick it up and shake it a little which tells me whether or not the 4 rod pieces are in there. If I hear that lovely sound, I take he parts out and check out the eyelets. Eyelets can be replaced fairly easily. Check the rod itself and see if there are any cracks. I've picked these up for $5-20. Walk away with a big smile on my face. I keep one with each vehicle and also with my CamelBak Muleso it's always with me when I'm going for a hike.

Great video, myself I have done research into the Emmrod setup, and though yes it is more expensive but is more versatile in with what you catch. They say they can catch up to 25 lb fish on the heavy action rod. That system along with appropriate reels and line weights, and of course a variety of tackle, you could have a setup that will bring in everything from the smallest bluegill to the biggest largemouth Bass. That versatility makes Emmrod a winner.
