The best ULEZ compliant Jaguar X Type? How suitable is the 2.1 V6 petrol as a city-Jag?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

ULEX has impacted a lot of people, and closer to my heart is the impact on X-Type owners. anyone owning a diesel X-Type within the boundaries of the ULEZ now has a £12.50 daily charge to pay and although this isn't a political ULEZ discussion, I do want to discuss alternatives to help those who love the X-Type, keep one without falling foul of expensive emission regulations.
Please keep discussion on this courteous (as I know you will!) but I welcome your views on it.
Thank you as ever for reading this far and for being part of this community.

I had a manual 2002 3.0 AWD which I really liked. I always felt that the 2.1 was incredibly underpowered yet still quite thirsty on fuel.

I think it depends on your experience. The 3.0 feels a little sluggish after driving a 2.2d especially if it's been mapped but if you jump from a 1.2 Corsa into a 2.1 X-Type it's a different story. They are thirsty if you have to labour the lower gears that's for sure.

@@xlyte_performanceis that just for auto 3.0 or manual aswell seeming sluggish compared with a diesel

@@OscarHobson the manual 3.0 definitely feels more direct in its power application. The jatco 5speed auto box is more of a cruiser than a performance gearbox.

Living just outside UlEZ in Godstone (by Jn 6 of the M25) my 01 Y reg 2.5 is non compliant but have noted slightly younger models eg 04 2.5/3.0's are listed as compliant so I presume the goal posts may well be moved in the not too distant future to also include the younger X types (and other makes) simply as a source of additional revenue. Not checked the tech emission specs to compare younger and older cars but on face value it appears older cars may now simply be a soft target, ie is it age alone or age plus emissions which determines the cars ULEZ status?

I'm in Blindley Heath so just south of you. It is both age and emissions but often DVLA and TFL make errors. You can apply for compliance. You don’t apply to TfL as they only go by the DVLA database, you need to send the V5 and original CoC which has the emissions on it to DVLA along with a covering letter, if successful they send you a new EURO 4 V5, which is compliant in all clean air cities in the UK except London. You then send it to TfL and it is them who may or may not, depending on your documentation approve the application, but be patient. I'm aware of multiple vehicles built between '98 and '03 which are not compliant on the V5 but are accepted by DVLA and TFL as being Euro4 compliant which is what you need.

Thanks for the useful reply. In section 4 of the V5C item V 'emissions' there is no info listed. Being registered on 23/3/01 ie one of the first few off the production line maybe this data was never recorded and hence I have no Cof C. I presume Cof C means certificate of compliance /conformity or other and was never supplied with this info from the main dealer Riders of Falmouth (now based in Truro) back in 11/05. If I send both the chassis and engine Numbers to Jaguar do you think they can supply a C of C, if not there then where does this Cof C originate from? If successful I owe you a beer at the Red Barn or similar near you! Thanks Barry Young@@xlyte_performance

I think Jaguar themselves would provide you with a Cert of conformance especially if you covered the reason why in your letter. I'm confident the vehicle is compliant, since no engine management changes were made between launch and 2004. I would start with them - they are actually quite responsive in most cases. Failing their ability to help, the JEC might be able to assist. Beers are always welcome!

Yeah my 2.1 auto is a 2004 SE spec with the upgraded sounds system and wheel, looking back upon purchase kinda glad i dodged the windy windows and none leather seats, idk just doesnt sit right with me, of course the x type was an entry level model, but windy down windows, and non leather seats is just not my fancy tbh

Should mention its also a first car, and from what I've heard, its is upgradable engine wise, would need a new throttle body adapter so who knows down the line, but at the same time, tbh if I wanted a fast fun 'weekend' jag I'd honestly got for an X308 XJR, or a Naturally Aspirated v8 X350 XJ imo (in addition to my current x type)

ULEZ is a Scam, just another oppression Tax, and the word 'Compliant' sickens me. Love your channel though 😊

Owning 2 petrol cars which are too old to be ulez compliant but too young to be free on "grandad" principals I do agree for the most. ULEZ hasn't achieved what it set out to and I think that may be reflected politically in the near future but time will tell. Thank you for the channel appreciation 🙂 -Anthony
