How are yours now ? I got 2 new fronts, Bridgestone Potenza sport almost 12 months ago now and they need replacing after just over 3,000 miles on a 100hp automatic CVT hybrid Toyota Yaris 0-62 11.8 second and boy is it a rocket ship 🚀 but seriously I have my annual MOT coming up and now need new tyres after a genuine 3k miles ! Did you buy them in the end ?

Very interesting! I have Dunlop sport maxx rt2 on my Mazda MX-5 RF. One question: why did you choose Goodyear SuperSport instead of Asymmetric 6 ? Btw, Potenza Sport looks really impressive, but i read that Bridgestone have got a lower tread, so their duration is reduced. Another thing: i think Dunlop are the older tyre in this comparison (2016 ?), but it seems they are still competitive. Do you have news about a future release of a sport maxx rt 3 ? p.s. sorry for my poor english.

I have a 2016 lexus gs350 had the dunlop sp maxx like the handling but dont get much mileage out them. What do you recommend switching to?

I'm surprised the Pirelli Pzero did so well but they are a new set. I've been fighting the things for years because Jaguar made them OE. My experience has been that long before the tread is worn down the performance falls off a cliff, especially in the cold or damp, but even dry warm day in a straight line you can trigger the traction control north of 40mph. One replacement set I bought a few years ago weren't even round which turned into a protracted battle with a dealer, the latest new one has cracked in 2 years.

Enjoyed the video and appreciated the wet testing which in my experience is far more important. Isn’t the Michelin PS 4s the natural competitor to the Bridgestone Supersport?, if that’s the case the Michelin PS 5 looks to have done very well in wet and dry sessions.

I just swapped to a complete set of michelin ps5s. Although some reviewers claim it isn’t the best but i think it performs everything quite near the top without compromising comfort. My old set of threads feel like rolling concrete in comparison

There is no ps5s

I have 19" Dunlop Sport Maxx RT2 on my VRS230 and I am so far satisfied the way they performed in corners and breaking. My only complain is that they break traction too quick from standstill and I feel like they are a bit soft, they wear up fast.

at the presentation of the goodyear eagle f1 supersport you show what i think is the assymetric 6 and NOT the supersport one. The supersport is on par with potenza sport and ps4S so i think you ve mistaken it with the assymetric in the test thats why it ranks under ps5

is the ps4s still the king of the summer uhp segment?

Why use the conti premium contact and not the sport contact? You have to compare like with like for a fair test outcome. Sport contact win or at least get top 3 in every other comparison with potenza sport and michelin ps5 etc

what do you advise me to replace my old turanzas T001 on a X1 18i? I am thinking of the potenzas sport, or the new turanzas 6 or the new contipremium 7! thanks indeed!!

What did you go for and were they any good ?

What would be your personal choice Steve for a hyundai i20n? In greece we have roads full of pothholes and not in the best condition. I am among bridgestone potenza sport for the best all around performance, but on a second thought, i am seriously thinking michelin ps5, for making the suspension a bit softer. Do you think i should trade off the absolute performance of the potenza sport for a better everyday comfort of the pilot sport 5, or the difference is not as big on the road as it is on the track when you drive 10/10? Is pilot sport 5 much comfyier and not so firm?

Hey George, both are fine choices, but we are really big fans of the Potenza Sport... Steve tested these off camera on a Gold GTI some time ago and said they transformed the car... both are good choices though!

The Pirelli is in a league of it's own but the Bridgestone is the better tyre! You were doing so well until you summed them up at the end... 😂 I'm a massive fan of Conti's, they're awesome but based on your video it would appear that the P Zero came out on top 🤷🏽‍♂️

I’m surprised by all that work that has been put in this test: impressive. The bigger is the question of why do include the new Michelin PS5 and NOT the new Conti SC7? Also some basic information in the video is wrong. This raises different questions about the intent of this test.

Hey - can see why you would be suspicious, but it just came down to timing. The SC7 had only just been released when we were filming and we were unable to get any - totally agree they should be here and they will be on our next test I promise! Nothing untoward - just timing.

Only a few CSC7 come in 18's😔. Currently, not this size. Unfortunately, it's mainly 19's and above, as is the CSC6. CPC7 is imminent and hopefully has similar R and D. Bizarrely, the reviews for the CPC6 on hot hatches I've seen were all very good. Strange how different some results are by different tests/testers!! I was all for the new Bridgestone potenza SPORT over a year ago when it was released, but on a hot hatch it didn't shine as much by that particular test. I'm going to research it much more and will likely bite the bullet 🙂

Is this the “PZ4” pzero model ?

I don't like it when reviews throw UHP and UUHP together and treat them as the same class of tyre. UUHP might be faster around a track, but it's highly unlikely it can beat UHP at every other characteristic (comfort, cost of ownership, etc.).

Whilst I appreciate the effort this test is all over the place with the tyre choice… Michelin PS5 does not replace PS4S+, which stands a class above, so you should have used that in the test, instead (currently PS5+ is not yet released). Also Continental Premium Contact 6 is a touring tyre… Sport Contact 7 is what you needed, rendering it a very disappointing ‚UHP’ tyre test - misleading.

Agree on the Premiumcontact point - we were very disappointed to not be able to source SportContact7 at the time of filming when they had only just been released and were unobtainable - we asked for support from Conti on this, but none was forthcoming - we fielded a great tyre from them, but ultimately it was outgunned - but agree, it is in a different class of tyre. Ref the PS5, that was fine to include and is seen within the industry as a direct competitor for those other tyres in the test... the S when it arrives is a half step above on the way to the Cup2 and occupies an unusual half step basically on its own. Thanks for the feedback though, and yes, going forward we hope to get better and with more support from the manufacturers field better comparisons. Thanks for checking us out while we are starting out!

PremiumContact 6 is supposed to replace both the SportContact 5 and PremiumContact 5 according to Continental. (SportContact 6 replaces SportContact 5P.) SportContact 6 and SportContact 7 are not available in 17" or even 18" unfortunately AFAIK.

If you were using the ps4s then you would also have to use the PZERO pz4

The GY F1 SS being slower than the PS5 on the dry is IMPOSSIBLE. I made the switch myself on an i30 N-Line 140 HP, and the result is the complete opposite. The F1 SS has so much grip in corners, even at high speeds, it is crazy. Michelins just can’t handle that and understeer already at lower speeds. It’s a good tire but compromise performance for durability.

Everyone driving style is different and some get on better with one tyre than another - we report what we find... Steve is a very accomplished professional test and racing driver, which is why we use his views as the views of Tyre Seeker as a whole :)

Thanks for answering. However, the F1 SS is the PS4S competitor, and made for performance mainly. Some people even use them on track. Michelin PS5 isn’t made for that. As a track test, I am very septical with his results.

Hey Otakar, yep, it is what we could field for Conti on this test - agree SC7 would have been better, but there was very very limited availability when we filmed this vid for that tread pattern - next year!

This video is a complete sham to try to make continental look bad. You're using all high performance summer tyres except for continental. You should of used the continental sport contact 7 for the test not the premium contact 6 since its not in the same class of tyres

The only tyre that shouldn’t be there is the Goodyear, the pc6 is the direct competitor of the HP tyres. The SC7 is on the Michelin PS 4S level. Continental choose to not have a separated touring/sport tyres these past years, as they said. PC6 was their Sport tyre.

Incorrect, Michelin have PS4 (without the PLUS) and have a Primacy range for the touring sector.

Hey Jessica - thanks for your comment - I hear you completely - at the time we were filming the SC7 was very new and impossible to source. The SC6 was end of life and we couldn't get them either and didn't want to field it against the much strong newer arrivals like the PS5... This was a poor compromise that we were gutted about - hopefully for our next round of filming Conti will offer us more support and help us source the correct tyres (we did ask this time, but no help was forthcoming)

@@pedromiguelrolo Hi Pedro, This isn't the case the product range is segmented in the following guises (in the UK)- Sport Contact 7 Ultra high performance/ Sport, Premium Contact 6 (soon to be 7) classed as Touring/ Comfort biased, Eco Contact 6 & 6Q - Eco Bias and UltraContact- Longevity. Continental do not bench mark based on Michelins product range so its not right to bench mark from their product range. Most of the tyres are developed based on OE requirements.

Thanks for this. I have to replace my OEM tires on my 22 LC500 coupe with only 9500 miles!!!! WHAT TRASH!!!! I hated those tires when i hopped in the car siting them as being loud, harsh, and grip was meh but I've never driven that car w/ anything other than OEM's so... I'm very eager to put a set of PZ4's NON RUN FLATS. If i need help i have roadside thank you. I spent enough for it. Im not doing that. LOL Logically it makes no sense to carry anything given you have that. Anyways knock on wood I've never had a tire issue.

what were the OEM tires?

I used the Michelin pilot sport 4s the potenza sport the Continental sport contact 7 and the good year F1 supersport the good year and the fastest! the potenza sport and the continental sport contact 7 s wears out very quickly around 1000km the sides are less hard than on the f1 supersport the tests are one thing but intensive use the goodyear F1 supersport remains the queen!!! All of them are great tyres compared with fucking no name tyres from market .Pirelli are my fav Tyres .Really long life...I had to my bmw tyre pirelli 9 years old and still good quality

Have you noticed that the tester is wearing Bridgestone branded t-shirt :) no surprise that Bridgestones were all the time the best according to this guy :) other than that not a bad review just too obvious bias I would say

On my drive to the supermarket I'm aways getting overtaken by those on better tyres.

Cup 2 R and Trofeo R are the only UHP tyres worth testing. Everything in this test good but not worthy of the UHP label

We would actually categorise these as UUUHP tyres - they occupy a section of the market that is very small and with very limited application - Trofeo Rs are fantastic on track once they are warm, but take ages to warm up and are very lively until they are - not a good choice for road users - similarly the CUP 2 Rs are terrifying in the wet... both are great. track tyres, but that is a different test - watch this space for it ;)

I agree. This new thing of uuhp and stuff is stupid. PS4s and everything in that class should be just high performance tyres not uuhp. Uhp should be r888rs and stuff in that class

Totally agree - they were impossible to source when we were filming, so had to make concessions - we were gutted! Hopefully next time around we will get some help from the manufacturer!

Goodyear asymmetric 6 is in many tests better than Pilot sport 5, and here you are trying to say that Pilot sport 5 is better than Supersport...LOL no way

Last 3 years i drive pzero. Thx god that tyre is end. Never again!

Useless video. For one, none of these tires are UHP. With the exception of the Continental, they are all max performance. Two, the Continental is a grand touring tire, obviously it's going to have worse performance in this test compared to to the rest.

Hey - yep, as mentioned in other answers on this point - the Conti was all we could get - wasn't a great choice and was only included in the end to give some alternative perspective to the overall test. Thanks for taking the time to give us feedback though - it is all appreciated.

1 sec lap time differences won't do much in real life. You're still late at your work!

Eeeek - not sure we can agree on that point - pretty great tyres the P Zero - we love em!

I know this test is quite old now (though still relevant today), but I'm sorry to say that I have no idea what Goodyear tyre you used in this test but I can assure you it's NOT the Supersport. I'm not going by the results but by the tyre you show at the start of the video (clearly marked Goodyear on the side wall). That tyre is not a supersport. I have no idea what tyre it is as it's tread pattern doesn't seem to match the Asym 5 either, but it is definitely not a Supersport. a) it doesn't have the cicumfurential slashes on the sidewall running on from a groove on the outer edge of the tyre that the SS has, (and as can be seen clearly in the first image in the video with all the tyres lined up). b) it doesn't have the alternate groove aligned with the outer block on the next inner block of tread the SS has, and c) the SS tread pattern is just completely different to that of the partially worn (and thus presumably the actual tyre used in the test) tyre that you show at the start of the video.
