I'm glad I tried KG, but it wasn't exceptional. I had the brisket, lamb, kofta, ribs, and sausage. They were ok, but there are a lot of truly good places in Austin and with brisket at $34/lb you have better options. The best thing on the menu was the rice bowl.

I was in Austin recently (actually waited in line with Andy and his crew at Franklin!) and KG BBQ was the best bite of food I had there, period. Was talking to Andy and his crew and asking them other places they hit up and they all recommended KG BBQ. I had been wanting to try but forgot to include it in my itinerary, so I have Andy and the crew to thank!

Aussie bbq is just so basic - sausages, rissoles or lamb chops in bread and tomato sauce (maybe with coleslaw and onion). Nothing too wrong with it especially because the meat is really high grade in Aus compared to some countries, but yes it's nothing compared to Texas BBQ in terms of flavour.

As a native one spot you missed out on was definitely Leroy and Lewis BBQ. They're a bit of a hidden gem unless your a local, so don't blame you for not knowing about that spot. The must have item on there is the Bacon Rib. Not something you can eat every week, but definitely something I would eat if I flew in to town just for it. The sides there are also good which I can't say for most Texas BBQ places. Also Texas in general has amazing fusion food, so glad it got some representation with KG BBQ.

Of course it's important to respect the respective cuisines being used and to not overdo any which side in order to create something coherent yet unifying. I think Lamb is so underrated in America. I’ve been eating different styles of BBQ all around the south my whole life. First time I had a rack of lamb, changed me. They are so flavorful and so tinder when cooked right. Love it.

That Egyptian BBQ fusion looked amazing! I'm going to have to go there. It's only an hours drive away luckily.

That blend of Egyptian-Texas BQ looked absolutely amazing!!! I would be visiting that food truck quite often. Wow... I was shocked. Gobsmacked at that presentation.

Lockhart, the official Barbecue Capital of Texas (and therefore, the world). Burnt ends and coarse "hot gut" sausage are an absolute must - and Southside makes the best hot gut. That Egyptian barbecue truck fusion sounds amazing too - would totally tear into it. Barbecue kofta? Yes please!

Awesome video. Bbq brings people together in a really unique and beautiful way. I feel like the word that comes to mind about the experience and the food is “honest”. From the way it’s prepared to the way it’s enjoyed. This video displayed that perfectly. Thank you man

That last place was so surprising. A spin on barbecue. Texas meets Egypt. And it even looked amazing coming off a food truck.

You need to explore Kansas City style, Carolina style, Memphis style barbecues, Santa Maria-style (California), New York-style, St. Louis style, Hawaiian style, Alabama style, Kentucky style, Pacific Northwest style. With Carolina style there is South Carolina, Eastern North Carolina, and "Lexington style" ( also called Piedmont and western-style which comes from Piedmont and western areas of North Carolina). There is a whole world of barbecue in the United States alone. You should make this a series about discovering barbecue around the world. Barbecue has exploded over the last number of years and there is so much to learn and try. Other parts of the world have taken from what the United States and other places do, but they are slowly trying to develop their own style of barbecue and make it their own.

I traveled the world for my job and got to experience many food cultures. That KG BBQ tray of food has me salivating. The middle east spin on Texas BBQ is something I need to try. Great video Andy.
