It seems like it has pretty good specs for a pretty cheap prefab. It's solid, got a rounded port, poly fill. Is it possible that it was 32hz instead of 36hz because the sub you out in it? I imagine it is tuned to 36hz with one of the subs skar sells preloaded in that box. Your subwoofer does have slight bearing on your box tuning right? Some subs would take up more space than others but can performance have an effect? Say you have two different 15in subs. Both take up the same space inside of the enclosure but one has am Xmax of 15mms, and the other a Xmax of 25. Would this cause you to have a different tuning?

Great video I own the 15 inch version of this box with a TXX- BDC4 Audiopipe 15 dvc2 and it is by far the best "prefab" box I've ever owned. 5:45 This is because the volume and port lenght + diameter depend on the Thile & Small parameters. This is the electrical and mechanical data of wich you can calculate the needs for the chassis. There are some additional parameters of how the box will sound in the end (the Q factor f.e.). And over all there are some ways to get a lower -3dB frequency (mostly some Hz under the tuning frequency) with a special crossover. The tune frequency will even drop some Hz when the Chassis is 'burned-in' (using the sub for some time).

I have the Skar Audio single 10" Armor box and it needed some work to sound right. Tuning was in the high 30Hz range. I used "Boom Mat" and re-carpeted the inside. What that did was completely smooth out the bass. It now sounds MUCH better...less rigid and echo-ie (sic). Tuning dropped to the low 30's too according to my test equipment. The Kerf (curved) porting is nothing new, but increases SPL with no huff/chuff port noise. These boxes are "semi" Kerf...not a true Kerf.

Concerning the back panel for the vent, once that section of the vent maintains the same CSA as the section on the side, it should be fine. Even better would have been if they flared in inside opening just like the did the outside one, but that would have required a bit more work on the box and likely made it more expensive. Things I'd like to see with a prefabbed box: 1. Ditch the carpet. Duratex, Warnex, or something similar should be used. 2 .Speakon terminals, not binding posts. 3. Proper internal cross-bracing 4. Tunable (via internal removable vent panel).

I agree with the short wire comment. That is probably the most common complaint I see but some people claim it is to help avoid having a wire banging around but I assume it is a cost saving measure. There is enough there but it takes a bit of effort. I have heard that lip at the top and bottom can cause fitting issues with some brands of subs but don't recall which ones at the moment.

Skar Audio products are usually very good. I'm using four Skar Audio IX-10 D2 wired at 4 ohms in a bridge mode on a Crown XLS1002.(1100 watts) for home audio. it's not easy tuning them to the lowest frequency possible. I had to do a lot of research to get them down to 32hz. two subs in each enclosure but separated on the inside with two separate ports. off course I could have bought much more expensive subs like the UM10-22 10" Ultimax DVC Subwoofer. but the drawback of my situation I wanted 4 subs. I was not going to spend over $1000 just on the drivers just to get 21fs lower frequency..

Mine has the Skar audio stitching on top of the box, the terminal cup says Skar SDR 600w rms 1 ohm. Also, on their site the specs say the single loaded 12" is tuned to 34hz not 36hz, 5/8 MDF not 3/4 2.00cbft. I wonder why they did it different for the empty prefab boxes?

I'm using this exact same Box in my 2013 Acura TSX. I have it loaded with a Memphis MOJO Pro Dual 2ohm VC(750watt RMS) on a SKAR RP1200 wired to 4ohms(500watts RMS) & the gain set at just under 50% to safely break in the Subwoofer. Once the Sub is fully broken in I may either add a true 750watt RMS Amp or add another Single 12" Skar box and Memphis subwoofer. Right now the box is facing the cabin with one of the seats down to really let that BASS in. I got some trunk & rear quarter panel flex but man does it sound Good!!! My question is would it be better to get a Tru Spec box built to the exact size Memphis calls for(2.5qft) or add a second Skar box & Memphis sub box face the second box in the opposite direction (rear ward) & wire both off the RP1200 @1ohm(just over 1200watts). I want as much SPL as possible without going to a Competition Subwoofer & I know more subs equals more Cone area. But would 1 properly sized box(2.5qft) and the full 750-800watts be better than 2 slightly smaller boxes facing opposite directions?🤔?

  • @dirtysouthpyro1981

    @dirtysouthpyro1981

    11 ай бұрын

Both options are around the same $$$. A Tru Spec box is about $225+$250 with the 750-800watt amp being about the same so $450-$500. A second SKAR Box & Memphis MOJO would be around $100-$125 for the Box & $250-280 for the Sub. So the second option is a little cheaper & I get double the cone area. But smaller boxes than Memphis calls for. Plus I'd keep the same SKAR amp to run both, and is running 2 subs in opposite directions a bad idea??? So it's 1 sub in a properly sized box with a properly powered Amp. Or 2 subs slightly under powered in slightly smaller boxes??? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Only real issue I've seen with this box on parker Parkers channel he's had issues with the overhang not allowing the larger framed subs to fit with the gasket still installed but without it they will squeak in, obviously you can still seal it with a foam gasket material or something underneath but not an ideal situation aesthetically. It looks as if your not using a high excursion sub you could possibly set it down firing? Shure would load the driver good but may not work well with that small of a clearance. Great comparo tho. I know which I would want if I went prefab, they get a bad rap so many act like they just won't work... Imo if it's decent construction, the right CF and the right tuning why not...usally the standard sizes offered you usually can find a match it will work just fine.

I think that's Crutchfield's house brand? I'd be glad to purchase one and test it out. I just need to get enough views to justify the expense.

I have this SO box from Crutchfield (its stout with internal bracing)... Loaded with 2 12 Fosgate p2's wired to 1 ohm on a Kicker CA800.1 (that actually pushes 1300 RMS at 1 ohm) I have had and sold 4 other Sub-Boxes prior to this "SO P2" 1st. The Kicker slot ported with 2 12 Alpine typeS (spaghetti surrounds) then an old school Qlogic dual 12 with Infiniti Kappas, then to a JL Basswedge Dual 12 with W3v3's sold the w3 subs for SKAR SDR 12 Same Basswedge Box) sounded Good. but got the itch again.. Bought the RF dual 12 P2 but the box was too wide for my Trunk.... Kept the P2's DVC4 then purchased the Sound Ordnace dual 12 cause the width was perfect at 32 inches. "scratch and Dent model from CF like $86" mounted the P2's in the SO and the BASS Tickles my hair follicles LOL!, amp gain is slightly above 50% Im loving it.... maybe down the road swap the P2's for P3's but I will keep the box as it is perfect size for my trunk.

When you measure the width of the mdf it looked like both times it was closer to 1 inch thick instead of 3/4 inch, some subwoofers will not fit based on the amount of space available between top and bottom wall, for anyone who is considering this box check your measurements

I have this box. It didn’t hit lows as much as I wanted so I keep my sub inverted which helped a little but still doesn’t hit lows as much as I’d like. Kinda wish I built my own box a little bigger

Lol we bass heads are funny Its NEVER enough.Even if you built your own box that was "bigger" eventually you'd be saying you need something "bigger" or LOUDER or hits lower 😂 Its like when you jump in water and at first its cold but then you get used to it and its normal .Bass head problems lol 👍🏽👊🏽✌🏽💯

Best prefab I owned is the hifisound 18” subwoofer box put a sundown x18 in it 1” MDF think it was 6 cubes and guessing box was tuned to 30hz-32hz did ok custom box is better of course but still good when you don’t gotta make a mess or even have to loo for 1” MDF I can’t seem to find 1” anything really

I've had several commenters on my videos mention those boxes. I was able to find some one-inch material when a local cabinet shop was giving away some free leftovers. It makes for a very dense and very heavy enclosure.

@@DIYAudioGuy they make some good cheap boxes just wish they made better enclosure for shipping instead of just a thin cardboard box I wouldn’t expect anything big ran in the boxes except the 18” cause all the other boxes I think are 3/4 thick but maybe with added bracing you could possibly some other than entry lines in em but like I said nothing competition grade

I had an issue with the skar ix 10s not fitting correctly in skars dual vented enclosure. the subs had huge gaps and couldnt be screwed in correctly. Skar messaged me, told me they tested the ix sub and it should work with the box I have. Skar instructed me to field destroy the box and they are shipping me a replacement. has anyone else had this issue with skars boxes? Great customer support with Skar.

How can I contact you? I have literally two questions about a custom box that I think I can handle building. Just not sure about port length. Watched a ton of videos on how to measure port length but no one has answered my specific question. I would be happy to pay.. (venmo or paypal or whatever)
