The Best Strat Ive Ever Played.
Музыка
Its new guitar day at The Studio Rats HQ and today we are looking at a 2018 NAMM Show Fender Greg Fessler Masterbuilt P90 Pink Paisley Stratocaster.
Ive been looking for another Fender Masterbuilt for sometime, a shop fairly local to me had this pre owned Fender Masterbuilt in stock so what else could I do but take a looky.
The Studio Rats are core band members Paul Drew on guitar/production/mixing, drummer James Ivey and Dan Hawkins on bass. They collaborate with singers and musicians to produce radio-ready songs.

That is noticeably pretty sounding. In a word I would say balanced. It’s parts combine harmoniously and chime like a bell. Great playing there.
This is an incredible guitar my friend, no doubt about that , but it is pushed to fabulous heights by your marvellous mastery of the instrument !!!!! Made my day !!

Sounds amazing! Never thought that I would want a double P90 strat!
Love love love this guitar. Semi hollow, strat body, p90's, rosewood board, light relic, metallic pink...😮❤
It honestly might be the best sounding electric guitar I've ever heard and I don't say things like that lightly..

@@celpabedn I'm not really a guitar player. I'm just an old studio bass player (that's either played with or recorded with people like Bobby hutcherson, The pointer sisters, Steve Jones from The sex pistols, Roger Mayer, Ozzy Osbourne with Zakk, John Five, Bill Ward, Tommy Tutone, Gladys Knight, Christian Brady etc.) The point is that I've been around some amazing players over the years and while I prefer a certain sounds with certain genres I thought that this particular guitar had a brilliant sound that sort of perfectly bridged the gap between a Stratocaster and a 58 les Paul.
It sounds incredible. Is absolutely gorgeous, and you absolutely do it justice with your playing. Top shelf video brother

That is a truly beautiful guitar, you do it justice with your beautiful playing, awesome!
Great sounding guitar, a great look, and a great musician. Never heard you play before but there is a ton of presence in your playing.
Amazing!! The bloom on the clean effect is incredible, could listen to it all day! That`s one sexy guitar and as you say, a one off, worth every dollar! Cheers from down under!
I was so inspired by the tone of this, that I just finished building one very similar. Swamp Ash Thin Line Strat body, with SD P90 Antiquities. I’ve had to experiment with different necks and electronics to get it just right the last couple months. I ended up with just a 500k MV and 500 MT, and converted the one pot to a no load, and a 3 way strat switch. It sounds so good now. I originally had a a Rosewood version of the neck like on the Frankie, but just wasn’t inspired… Then had a Warmoth build a 24 3/4 scale Strat conversion neck, compound radius , fat back, 1 11-16 bone nut, quarter sawn maple built and wow. The neck just arrived and put it right on yesterday. It’s like that hollow super light body needed that extra wood. It transformed the guitar from a 6.5 on the scale of 1 to 10 to. 9.5. It has a very different voice. Sounds brilliant when playing with loud music. Like in a band situation. Stands out and cuts through in a very pleasing way. Sounds very full. When I play it on its own, I think wow, where’s all the thickness? Has a fat honky thing about it. A strat it is not. But it’s not a P90 Gibson either. It’s a different thing all together, but plays great. Has wonderful sustain on its own. It’s just very different. Not really better or worse than my LP. My R6 Goldtop has fat punchy thing about it. This has this cool sustainy compressed thing with a different EQ curve. It definitely gets the mid tone in this video, and it is stupidly easy to play with that 24 3/4 scale. Hard to put down. But it’s definitely not a LP or a Strat. It’s its own thing.
That sounds great Paul... I still enjoy the sound of your traditional Strat as well, they are just different. But... this guitar sounds amazing. Congrats!
It's beautiful. Tone is gorgeous. What a treat.
Wow, that guitar sounds beautiful. Definitely special, tons of character.
That Strat is just plain cool. Thanks for putting up this video.
So beautiful guitar...the tone is amazing. Congrats!!!!
Gorgeous sound. Clear and resonant.
🤤 That is FANTASIC! Truly stands out. I LOVE P90s, too, and those sound amazing even through my headphones.
Totally agree with your analogy about “Master Built” being a piece of art. Beautiful Strat with awesome P90’s 👍
Daymnnnnn even though you can make anything I've ever seen and heard you play sound good. That being said I've owned and played many Strats in my 71 years of life, that is definitely one of the sweetest Strats I've ever heard. 🤘❤️

I suspect like the majority of your subscribers I could never afford a masterbuild guitar. Having said that I totally appreciate that this guitar is a beautiful looking and more importantly sounding instrument. Yes there are fantastic factory built instruments but these to my ears at least are a cut above so characterful and unique, anyone who says otherwise is probably just pissed they cannot afford one. It's totally personal choice. Great Video and wow that Strat sounds sooo sweet Paul.
What a guitar...and i played hundreds and heard thousands in my 50 jears of playing, this one sounds special.....
Paul , I love watching The Studio Rats vids re’ all the different gear you test out and thrash through ; but I keep watching more of the vids to try - with all my attention and effort and concentration to Emulate your magnificent technique ; so effortless and flowing ; I’m hearing 100 notes , but seeing very little finger travel ; !!!! How do you do it - oh yeah a life time of playing and “Cutting those Chops “ of course

Great video and demonstration, Paul. Well explained.
P90s are the perfect pickups in my humble opinion. That guitar just sounds beautiful. I think one of the reasons it sounds so good is because it doesn’t have that middle pickup. Even when not engaged, the magnets of the middle pickup will pull on the string and influence the tone. That’s one of the reasons Teles sound so great.
Oh I would have that in a heartbeat! Cool looks and sounds fantastic!
Always love your playing and demos. You got me thinking bout P90s. Coolio
In yuor hands, that is certainly one of the best sounds I have heard in a while - That's a beautiful airplane being flown by a master pilot! I agree, there's something very special about the combination of elements that Greg Fessler chose and it's wonderful that you have it in your hands

I feel this guitar and others similar to it are "Out of the Box" thinking builds. This guitars sounds beautiful. Thank you for the video
You are correct. This Strat sounds unique. I have always liked the way P90's break up. They are not for every occasion but fit well where they fit!
I built one myself on a 98 Squier Affinity base, using Alnico V p90s a tele wiring loom, and that is my no 1 guitar over my signature Ibanez guitar, they have something really special, a listening your video it sounds amazing. Obviously my one is not in the same league like yours but the concept and the type of sound is very unique. P90s nowadays are love or hate things, but all the haters should try out one properly and there would not be any more questions.
Love that you stretched out a little more with this demo. Sounds beautiful
That's the best sounding strat I've ever heard I think because the p90s are still single could but they have more bite it brings out that strat sound a bit more and being semi hollow makes it better still! Fantastic guitar!
That is a magnificent sounding and looking Strat, one of the very best I've head on KZread. The P90 Pickups sound great. I've converted my Strat to a noiseless 2 pickup configuration. I've always liked the sound of P90s.
Like everything from Paul, great guitar, great tones, great solos, great chords…just great!

Let me tell you Paul this is the best strat I’ve ever heard. I watched this video so many times. It just sounds so good. I think it has something to do with the F hole and probably the P90’s and of course your ability to play so good.

What a fantastic guitar and well said Paul, these guitars are made to very high standards and are worth every penny. When you said "I used to have a pink Tele" I pictured you watching a pink TV, but then the penny dropped. Great demo !!

New to the channel love the pink guitar reminds me of of an old marlin sidewinder my dad owned, beautiful tones and worth whatever you want to pay for it!

Sounds wonderful and your playing is really great. I might build one of these. Always wanted a Strat with P90s.
Great looking guitar, fantastic tone and wonderful playing...(wow on all fronts!). Lovely touch with the reverb; assume some delay on too. Congratulations!
It has xtremely beautiful sound. Very balanced
What a beautiful tone
I love everything about it, it's a beauty mate
That's cool as hell. And it sounds just like and as good as it looks. I might have to bump up a 2xP-90 Strat to my project list for next year...and make it a semi-hollow.
Lovely instrument. It gives me inspiration to build a partscaster in the same style
I love the strat sound, this one is rare & unique. I use a DGT regularly, but at home I always go back to my strat 50th anniversary with Lindy Fralin
Beautiful instrument! Love the p90 tones too!!
beautiful sound
That ... is ... AMAZING! Absolutely love it! The look and sound are both incredible, plus I have to add that the playing is awesome. Thanks for the video!
Great sound and awesome pickups no 60 cycle hum either. Thanks Paul, nice playing and reverb
Its hard to express how beautiful that guitar is and how badly i want it!

I would SO play that guitar ! Love that pink !
Holy crap is that awesome. I want one of these! (would love it in the black paisley they've done some of the masterbuilt Teles in). Love this guitar.
Lovely tones! Has a bit of Jazz Master vibe with the 2 P90s. Interestingly strat type tones but resonating so differently. What a guitar! Nice Reverb too.
Wow such a killer guitar! Congratulations 🎊
Beautiful guitar, that middle position is to die for… 👍
That sounded like spoke with folks by David Torn at the beginning…lovely…cheers!
sounds great! outstanding playing also.
Beautiful guitar - I’m not opposed to spending ridiculous amounts of money on worthy instruments but we are certainly paying a premium for the Fender name in this case. I have two master built custom strat style guitars - crafted start to finish by Ted Stevenson in Canada - even winds his own pickups and is a great amp builder as well - each of them were significantly less than the price of an average Fender Custom Shop strat - and I’ll tell you no lie - they hold their own against every other custom instrument I have - Happy New Guitar Day!

Resale on the fender will be way better than my recomendation but you can build a warmoth or mj tele, get all the boutique parts you want, exact neck you want, even relicing on the wood with mj tele for 2000 +/- 500 dollars depending on the cost of the hardware and pickups. I have one mj tele and a warmoth love them. Fit and finish on the custom shop would be amazing though but your luthier can roll edges and otherwise hone in your build and once again resale and some dudes gotta have the fender name on the headstock. What's important to you? This is what really matters.

That Strat sounds very special. Those custom P90's definitely give it a character of its own. I have to say my James Tyler SC in Alien Guano is my favorite strat and I've played a bunch. It was gifted to me by my wife and kids for my 50th, as they bought me something they knew I'd never buy for myself. Its a fantastic instrument. With that said, a few years ago a friend (also with G.A.S) turned me onto a guitar demo of a Goshawk handbuilt by Rick Toone. I got the sickness real bad when I saw he had built one with hand-wound humbuckers from Lindy Fralin. Having put custom wound Fralins in both my American Strat and a FrankenTele I really had to have that instrument. Long story short, I emailed Rick whose a super nice guy and we did a deal. As far as tone, ergonomics and playability its the alpha of the herd. Yes, there is a guitar out there that can cure the G.A.S and with great thanks and humility, I own one. Mike Dawes recently did a sit-in with Rick and demoed a Goshawk with custom Bareknuckles. Its a hyper-worthy demo, but this is where the sickness started and was cured for me: kzread.info/dash/bejne/eqOTw7ecpZyno6Q.html

I couldn't agree more with this statement. I have 6 tele's none by fender. And all of them twice as good, for half of the price. If you want a quality instrument for reasonable price fender and gibson won't be coming out of your mouth.
I have noticed you playing that many times throughout multiple videos. It is number one a gorgeous guitar, with a very unique open clean, very articulated sound. Beautiful playing as always. I actually have my house for sale which will probably go by spring time and that will be the one time I’ll actually have the money to buy such an instrument. I have around a dozen Guitars but all in the $500-$2000 range. I would love to have an ax like that. thanks so much for the review.

Sounds amazing. I think a PAF style humbucker in the bridge and a p90 in the neck would be a great combo too.
That sounds fantastic, looks killer as well. 🔥🎸👍🏻
That guitar sound super sweet with the effect chain you have
Beautiful guitar and buy in a heartbeat…
You get a fantastic sound out of every position of both guitars... Having said that, my favourite tones were the bridge single coil of the normal strat, the middle p90 position of the master built, Both neck pickups were equal in my eyes. The weird thing is, I have the opposite configuration haha. I have a Dinky that I've modded to have a P90 in the bridge and a single coil in the neck, with a blender pot (and a second neck). I kind of defaulted to this configuration thinking that a P90 would be the happy medium between a single and a hum, but that bridge single coil on your strat sounds so amazing, I might have to play more standard strats now
A Thinline with P90s?? Whoa! I absolutely love my EJ signature, love the way the Thinline plays with and without an amp. I'd love to try this one!
Fantastic tone. Reignited my lust for a custom Suhr Alt T with P90s.
Very cool looking and that tone - awesome! Greg Fessler is a true master craftsman, this guitar is very special, if I had the money - yes I would! Feeling really inspired from this video, I may try to recreate one with the same pickups and a thinline Strat body I have - purple gold paisley and purple metalic over gold light relic maybe...
That finish is so unique!
Sounds amazing.
Gorgeous guitar
Spectacular video. Heavenly guitar. Now, if I only knew what other gear and emulation selections where in the signal chain.

Strat with P90s, my favorite pickups, great idea‼️
Sounds fantastic
First run you played I thought “best strat I’ve ever heard” Still manages to sound stratty with P90s, at least clean. Very nice.
Cool guitar, and you're a fine artist with it.
Beautiful sounding guitar. More curious about P90s now.
Sounds incredible. Not convinced by the aesthetic or the look of the pups but it does sound tremendous, even side by side with the other strat is just sounded distinguishably “more”.
2 P90s….on a Strat. Never thought about it. Now I want to do that to one of mine.
That strat sounds fantastic with the P90's ............ helped by some great playing!
That looks ands sounds incredible, I am so jealous
Really great guitar playing.
Would I play it…? HELL YEAH!!! Pink or otherwise, I’d play the crap out of it! That’s a great sounding, great looking guitar! I’m so deep into Strats and Teles that my Strats are usually wired with Tele type switching options and several of my Teles have been “Stratified” with a third pickup and seven-way switching. Whichever I’m playing, I like to at least have the option of getting some sounds of the other. I may have to do a build like the guitar featured in this video. It is so uniquely beautiful! Parts from Warmoth, Callaham, Lollar, Fender and Duncan have been used in my builds. Actually, one of them is a sixties style Strat Relic in candy apple red with a rosewood fretboard that looks very much like the three pickup Strat in this video. Great video, guitar and playing! Rig sounds fantastic too! Thanks for sharing!
That guitar sounds awesome!
