    I think the reason you needed to refill it so quickly was just that you squeezed it only once in the ink bottle. For this bladder to fill well from empty, repress with the whole nib under the ink suface, let it suck in ink, press again, repeat until no bubbles come. First time you press the feed gets filled but lots of air is still in the bladder. I believe it's called an aerometric style converter.

    I suppose. To me he just looks like one of Shakespeare’s lesser known writings. Got a lot of good interesting work flowing through but wasn’t put together the same way it seemed in the mind. Ifk. Nice vid though, I agree w/the piston I just like to pull mine through a few times to be sure I like how it filled/least amount of air etc. but that cartridge and nib was nicely made and already flowing out consistently 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾

    That happens with surprising frequency. Seems a lot of high-end makers consider writing to be beneath them, so nibs won't be tuned, are often from third-party makers and unremarkable. Then there all the limited edition, numbered pens. There is a disconnect between using pens and collecting them.

    The company that sent him the Aurora pen actually responded to his video basically saying that the pen he received was most likely over polished by the manufacturer, and that it was causing the nib to 'babybottom'. They offered to replace it for him if he decided to send it back.

    So what'cha got there is a "torpedo shape" pen. If it was pretty much parallel sides but only rounded at the ends, you'd have a "cigar shape". If the ends were flat, "flat top." The snap cap on that pilot is never going to come loose. The occasional ink starvation is due to the inexpensive "converter" (the little "piston pump" that "converts" a pen from using cartridges to bottled ink) pilot has several kinds of converter, that squeeze-bar one is called an "Aerometric" converter, the Pilot part number is the "CON-20". But they have two piston converters, the Con40 (discontinued) and the CON-50. both of these have little things inside to agitate the ink since these converters are so much wider than the more common "standard international" ones they can develop surface tension inside and the ink won't flow. it's only really common when you're writing or drawing a TON. But a CON-50 converter costs only about $6. The final type pilot makes is the CON-70, which has a really novel vacuum button filler. But it does not fit the metropolitan. The metro only has two "problems." Firstly, the grip section can be too narrow for some people. Second, when you pull the nib and feed out to clean them (make sure there's no cartridge or converter in the pen or it won't come out) when you put them back in, make sure you REALLY push them in hard, or it might "burp" a drop of ink now and then. If you push it in firm enough, it never will do this, however. Overall, this is hands down the best starter pen. It's issue-free, there are NEVER any problems or quality control issues, it can be had in a bunch of colors and patterns, with nibs available in F, M, or a nice crisp stub. I've converted a whole lot of people to fountain pens with the metropolitan. I'm very tempted to mail you a sheaffer snorkel filler I restored. I bet you'd find it amusing to fill. it can fire ink about six feet if you're so inclined. If you keep uploading videos using fountain pens to draw, I'll send it to you along with a fun bottle of ink.

    I have this pen, I bought it as my first fountain pen because it was aesthetically pleasing to me and cheap but.. But also a fountain pen, you know. Or I have the blurred silver with the python print in the middle version, that's also a big reason I chose it - I like sneks. And it IS satisfying to work with. I do believe there are definitely more satisfying fountain pens out there but if you've never experienced a fancy extra smooth fountain pen in your life this one's the perfect transition into that world, at least in my opinion. And by the way, I think the pen's more balanced if you put the cap aside when you use it.

    If you ever have ink starvation issues like peter describes, in the pilot pens, it's because they are so wide and the cartridge and included converter has nothing inside to agitate the ink. If you use a pilot metro and write a LOT and the occasional ink starvation occurs, you really should buy a con-40 converter.

  • @MrTheEPICman

    @MrTheEPICman

    5 жыл бұрын

    Colin Martin the aerometric style converter that comes included with the pilot metro actually holds more ink than the Con-40 (The Goulet Pen Company KZread channel made a video on that). The reason he probably had to refill a lot is because when filling up the pen he only squeezed the plate once which means there was also probably a lot of air in the converter as well; if he had repeatedly done it until he saw no more air bubbles in the ink when he presses down on the plate that means the bladder is full.

    A lot of them often get rid of the converter or cartridge and use syringe to fill the whole barrel with ink if you found no metal part within the barrel. This happened very much with flex nib as it draws more ink and the regular converter always go dry on you very often.

    Love your content, bro, and love how open you are to new things. Personally, I'd like to see you try out an Asian fountain pen with a fude (brush) nib - like the inexpensive Fude de Mannen fountain pens by Sailor. They have a bent nib (one at 40 degrees (more versatile IMHO) and the other at 55 degrees). An awful lot of fun to play with, and can give you a wide range of line widths and values. They're made of plastic, and they are quite long (about 9") - but that makes them feel a little more like a brush in your hand. They do come with 2 (HUGE) cartridges (in the blister pack), but you can order the Sailor converter (about $5). Of course, these pens only cost about $12, but... And now I am rambling. Give one a try... I'll bet it'll make for some killer content!

    I have the Pilot Cocoon (said to be the Japanese version of the Pilot Metropolitan) and it writes very nicely. It doesn’t come with the fancy box and cartridge but that’s ok. It was really satisfying to watch you make your artwork with the pen identical to what I have on my desk! Thanks for another amazing video, Peter!!

    Hi Peter, good to see the face behind the drawings. What you could do is use the cartridge and when the ink runs out. Just get a syringe with a blunt needle and refill cartridge (after you've cleaned out the cartridge) and you are good to go.

    I’m literally obsessed with this fountain pen. I cheeped out on my first fountain pen, at 15 dollars…. The ink was just bleeding out. But this pen is by far amazing and affordable at 20 dollars now. Also quick note, it takes very little time to saturate maybe 5-10 min

    Be aware if you buy this, there is a few versions where the nib tips. I've purchased the stub nib, which was nowhere near as fine as I'd have liked. Still very good flow, would be great for journaling and even blocking in black areas in drawings.
