Thank you for sharing your insights, I have not been to the UK in quite a while, but a long time ago visited "the Fens" (Ely), and quite distant relatives the Shropshires near Leister, Edinburgh, and London... Great Trip.

I retired myself a few years back and couldn't believe i was watching my old boss looking so well and relaxed with the lovely Carole. We made the change from caravan to van and all I can say is I wish we had gone the van route right from the start. Are you starting a youtube channel ? I find it a bit of fun to post the videos and it introduces you to some very nice people. If you do start one let me know. We hardly watch any tv these days and find peoples youtube channels far more interesting. Good luck with the gopro, I fell out with mine so hopefully you have a reliable one 👍

Bought a GoPro recently so just learning and put a couple of videos up Lake District touring and on my e-bike Whitby pop up campsite no where near as professional as yours. Yes I watch a lot of you tube these days and I can see us enjoying your videos over the coming months. Thanks for putting them up they are great and brings back some great memories of our time Sussex.

You are welcome. This is the order of subjects being covered in the next videos. LPG, Pop top roof, table, flooring, how we use the internal storage, equipment we store in the garage, arrival on site routine, security, heating, sleeping, dealing with condensation, water management, power management and finally Sussex Campervans as a company. 👍

Another thumbs up for the emergency bivvy toilet in preference to a chemical one. Got one in NV200 van.

Yes very good, interesting. I was worried about the toilet but to be honest I just had the thought when we go out for the day we never worry you always find somewhere, and The pop up toilet I think thats fine for emergencies! Lovely to hear an honest review. Too many folks after investing so much have to almost convince themselves that everything is perfect and as we know everything is a compromise. For some its build quality, others size, or a plethora of other things but rarely do you hear about them. So highly appreciated. I have a Nissan car and it has been amazing its definitely not perfect. The NV200 definitly is a great little camper!

My parents in law lived in Burgess Hill for many years, then retired to Seaford, so I’m familiar with many of the places in Sussex that you have filmed. Excellent video's, thanks. I have a MK2 Berlingo car with a basic homemade conversion. I've just ordered the collapsible loo as space is limited. I have been using a small bucket with wood pellets and biodegradable bags, which works fine but uses up space under the bed. Hoping to revisit Skye and the Highlands when times are better. Safe and happy travels.

Nice video. We have the bivvy loo for emergencies. I have a folding military style steel spade, small and can be used on virtually any surface. I also have the same Blue Tooth speaker and a smaller, Sony version, but in the winter we tend to watch a tv once it is dark. I feel a bit guilty now as we use campsites. My wife likes the luxury of hot showers and toilets etc. We also use all electrical items while plugged in. Bu I do fancy doing more wild camping as it is free.

Nothing wrong with campsites and we used them for 25 years. We do like the fun of wild camping spots though and I quite enjoy looking for them now.

I hope you recover soon Ken. Glad you are back home. I decided to watch your NV20O van. Its a Renault Kangoo really. Same Engine. The most powerful engine was the 110BHP but I am not sure what yours is you never said. Strangely when I lived in Bath, I bought the latest Kangoo from Brighton. ours is a Nissan Tekna diesel with the most powerful engine still only 110 bhp 👍

Loved the association between a loo and available WiFi. Long gone are the days when people would go in with a copy of the Sun to relax as they did their business. It’s much harder to use the mobile if you run out of toilet paper, but you can still catch up on the world.

As a matter of fact, if people today walk in the loo with a copy of the Sun everyone knows exactly what it’s purpose is going to be. It’s a fail safe just in case.

Did look at one of these but got a 2018 Ford Transit custom Devon Firefly hightop automatic swb with 14k on it for 38k, like the full hight toilet privacy door, and easy access to the loo as 2 single beds. And it's still the length of an estate car.

@@LifeistooshortCKThe SWB Ford Transit Custom is the length of a car, I use it as my daily driver, it fit's in a car space easily at supermarkets, is helped by the front and rear sensors and reversing camera, also has electric folding wing mirrors.

I like your camper van It does remind me of a Coka a Cola bottle, with the stripe. haha They don't have to many camper vans like this in USA and new ones are quite expensive.. I called Nissan and asked about a rear seat and they wanted $6,000. + for new seat only. So I was able to find a New York city used Taxi that has windows and a rear seat.

Almost anything can be used for camping. NV200 has space for heater, electric etc and a bit more comfort.

Thanks, Ken. Really informative. When you had the head unit changed did you have a new rear camera installed? Or did the fitter take a feed from the current camera? It's on my list of things to get done. Would you know the name of the company that was contracted to do the work?

He tapped into the feed although I wish I had gone for a new camera with a better angle of view. This was the guy. www.soundsecure.co.uk/

Some things are surprising. No door on the glove box? Such narrow side door map pockets? Just a tiny bit more width would be useful. No mirror? Teeny, tiny reverse camera? All these small things would be wonderful improvements, should the manufacturer listen to customer reviews. But it it still a great van, just always room for improvement, if anyone listens. ❤

May we also ask the make of your head unit; we are thinking we may get Sussex to fit one at our habitation service. Looking forward to see how you pack your van. We already live in a small space and have lived on a narrow boat but feel we may be carrying too much stuff.

susan & charlie ours is the Pioneer Avic Z720 DAB. I wish we had got one that had a knob for volume rather than tiny little buttons. DAB reception is pretty rubbish but Car play, the bit we actually wanted works fine.

I'm disabled affixed toilet is a must. Also solo female traveller.

Hi there - like the video - very informative. We used to have a fair number of garages in South London that sold LPG but in recent years apart from one they have all removed their LPG pumps - how have you found gas supplies so far?

LPG pumps are disappearing without a doubt but they will be around for quite some time yet. I use an app to find them and in this van you don’t need them often. In France and Spain there were plenty. I have three near me so we are lucky. A diesel heater is the other option but would probably be too hot for an NV200.

Another option is the Wallas XC Duo combined hob & heater which is what I’ve got in my van. It uses diesel from the van’s fuel tank.

Very good review. Does the steering wheel tilt? This is a problem I found with the Promaster, no tilt to the steering wheel which significantly angles away from the driver.

Yes tilts up down but no reach adjustment. We have it all the way up.

@@LifeistooshortCK I just test drove an NV200 2021 - it didn't have an adjustable steering wheel. Not at all. It did not have adjustable tilt, did not have adjustable telescope [in/out]. This was in the USA. The USA Nissan website does not indicated adjustable steering wheel is available, even as an option.

@@jkyoft78 Just double checked ours and it has a lever in a slot underneath which allows up and down only. There are two specs in the UK. I wonder if just the higher spec has it. One thing I wish it didn’t have is electric windows as they don’t work when parked up.

We are always off grid. We don’t use campsites. That panel does a good job of charging the battery on sunny days. The alternator does the rest. We have a lithium battery which makes a big difference.

Thanks for uploading the video I am in the process of buying a NV200 so this has given me a good insight to the van and I am interested to know what the unit was that you fitted to the dash for the parking screen as I am thinking of getting one for mine also did you fit it and if so how easy was it to fit ?

That unit was a Pioneer Z720DAB. I can’t recommend it really as the navigation and Apple carplay is not reliable. If you want a better reversing camera don’t use the existing camera as the view is not that helpful. We paid for it to be fitted.

Still got the same one. Not sure its really worth swapping it as we tend to do most navigation on our phones and I have become far more proficient at reversing the van with the mirrors, not that you would know it when I got stuck in that cemetery. As I make films we don’t tend to listen to music as that causes copyright issues when editing. Main reason we got it was for the reversing camera but it really needs a better camera mounted near the roof looking down. Pioneer is not the best so maybe a Panasonic or something would be better.

Forgot to say. The guy who fitted ours seemed to have trouble tapping into the rear camera. I think he spliced into the video feed. Other people who fitted their own said they just plugged and played 🤷‍♂️

Which model nv200 have you got? As Nisan don’t make them for the UK now, I’ve had problem getting info on 2nd hand models. What would you recommend?

Nissan Techna diesel. Diesels are best as they have van engines which are more robust so should last much longer. There are only 2 trims, the Techna has aircon which is really worth having for dealing with condensation in winter. It has cruise control and speed limiter as well. These vans will become sort after because as you said they are only making electric now.

Hello, I'm a big fun of your channel. You present all in a smart and informative way. I can't get my head around one thing. Is it pretty comfortable to sleep in your van? I can imagine it will be fine for one person but for two?

We find using a 5litre water bottle works fine for us now and we get a clean one every time we fill up with fresh water.

51tazzman it was fitted through Sussex Campervans but they sub contract the work. I got them to do it mainly because in the past I didn’t do that with a tow car once and things didn’t go well and the garage and fitter blamed each other for a fault. In the NV200 group I belong to on facebook there are people who have done it themselves and said it was easy but when the fitter did mine it took quite some time. If you want to do it to improve the reversing camera I would recommend not using the built in camera. In my opinion it does not give enough view of what is behind you and looks down too soon.

50 miles per gallon?! That is excellent. In the U.S. we have the same NV200, but only available with a gas engine and automatic transmission. It gets about 25 mpg.

We are lucky to have the diesel as the mpg is fantastic. Its quite easy to achieve as well if you drive carefully. It makes an NV200 cheap to run 👍

I enjoy your vid very much. May I ask what was your average daily driving distance? Are the front seats comfortable for long distant driving?

The driving distances vary according to the trip. We prefer not to drive more than two hours in one stretch but coming back from Spain we drove more than 300 miles in one day. For the Ireland trip we did about 2,400 miles in five weeks.

The front seats started to get a bit uncomfortable on the long drive days so we used some seat pads for extra comfort, otherwise they are fine.

Thanks for the low down on the Nissan sadly looking at the ground clearance I would not recommend going down anything more than the gravel track you showed with the utilities mounted where they are, I have been looking around for something just for myself I have seen on KZread a few companies in Korea that have been converting the Ssangyong Musso double cab pickup truck into a campervan they get the long wheelbase chassis and cab without loadbed remove rear cab bulkhead and build a camper with full of grid facilities on it sadly I cannot find anyone outside Korea who sell it (not even Ssangyong) Based on a proper 4x4 it would be a great wild camping vehicle, sadly the Nissan is a bit small for my requirements I am over six foot tall plus I have two pet's who sadly require. I have driven the predecessor to the NV200 for work and found it to be lacking even though I have owned Nissans for over thirty years this was a disappointment.

how do you bath or shower?

Beach Kimba we have a portable rechargeable shower but have only used it for hair washing so far. No bath onboard so we heat up some water in a saucepan and have an all over flannel wash. It is surprisingly refreshing 😊

For us from India, going to loo is not a problem. World is one giant loo for us.🤣🤣

It functions great. There is nothing on the van that has let us down (touch wood). Loads we have learned along the way. There is no pleasing some people though.

Well I used to ride motorcycles and they fare even worse. Do you know a campervan that fares well ? They all are compromised by the conversion process. Maybe that is why I give tips on safe driving in my videos. Fear stops you doing things. I say do them and enjoy life while you can but mitigate the risks as much as possible.

@@LifeistooshortCK A good way to mitigate the risk is to begin with a base vehicle that has the highest safety rating, rather than one which is already compromised by achieving a low safety rating. My post addressed the known safety rating of the NV200, not motorcycles, which obviously cannot be compared! Constructing one's camper so that in a hard frontal collision, furniture or items cannot break free and become airborne, hurtling into the Crew's driving compartment at head height should be prioritised. I have seen several owner builds in which all the kitchen knives were attached to a magnetic strip affixed to the wall directly behind the head of the driver! Likewise, having a microwave oven hurtling into the back of one's head can definitely spoil the journey. Designing with safety in mind isn't difficult.

OH NO.. I Couldn't possible Poop in a Bucket?? ROFL.. I will POOP in a sandwich bag is that's all there is... and the choice is that or the underwear.. Amazing how some people think their pooping is special.. Thanks for the reality check for those that need it...

Totally agree. Happy to do what is necessary if the need arises. The freedom we have is well worth the few compromises.

I totally accept that and its a problem I am struggling with to be honest. I am certainly not happy with it and still working to improve them.

Digging holes around the countryside, emptying bottles in the hedgerows. You have to be kidding. Take the Portapotti and dispose of the contents at home! No wonder the phrase Dirty Campers is becoming the norm.

We don’t empty anything where it’s not supposed to go. Portapotti’s are awful things to use, maintain. Speak for yourself regarding dirty campers because we are not.

@@LifeistooshortCK Portapotti's are used by thousands of responsible Campers, Motor Caravanners, Caravanners and Camper Vanners. It is irresponsible to encourage the activities that you describe. To be accurate, I did not describe anyone as "dirty". I suggested that the Public perception is changing to that of "Dirty Campers". No offence is intended.

In a small campervan when you are wild camping portapotti’s fill quickly and that means you need to empty them frequently. Not only will you have a mix of sewage that stinks but you will also now have a slurry mixed with chemicals that you cannot tip anywhere other than an approved disposal point. It’s people tipping portapotti’s causing the problem. Forget those contraptions that are really for use on campsites and separate waste. We find public loos to tip pee bottles every morning. As for waste disposal when nowhere near any facilities you should follow the official advice. We cover this subject in our videos to help people understand the options. We also explain how rare it actually is to have to resort to those methods as being in a van it’s easy to make use of toilets along the way.
