You are a brave man, doing public blind tastings. I quite like SBs, although I rather overdosed on NZ Marlboroughs when they really started their export drive about 30 years ago. My preference nowadays is for Loire: Pouilly Fume; Sancerre, Menetou Salon. I still drink the occasional NZ and have at least one bottle of Greywacke in the cellar. Have you ever tried ageing top quality SB, btw? It completely changes character and is almost unrecognisable as SB. I like but it won't be everybody's cup of tea.

Hahahha I don’t mind being wrong on camera. Every taster I’ve ever known makes mistakes. Aged SB can be fantastic but yes, it morphs into something different

Great that you brought in Austria and Slovenia as top notch regions for Sauvignon Blanc. Enjoy 🍷

I admire your bravery. I like Sauvignon Blanc, but I don't scour the world for it. I have a few favorites among the cheaper California bottlings. I happen to be drinking a 2017 Round Pond Rutherford Napa Valley. It shows grass on the nose, citrus and tropical fruits on the palate and some creaminess that helps it be full bodied. Napa Valley can do great things with SB, but generally can be a bit pricey. Slovenia makes SB? News to me.

Slovenian SB is fantastic and is found in different stylez, bigger barrel fermented in the west and zippier in the northeast

Spent a lot of time trying NZ and french SB's for a while as if california didnt exist, but tried a cakebread SB, blew me away. It had both qualities of the fruits of NZ and the minerality of sancerre. Higher acidity but added to the complexity. Worth the $30

I’ve had the Tement and it’s amazing! A fun twist on Marlborough SB is Silver Beach. The classic aromas are still there, but it’s aged on the lees so it adds a richness on the palate. Skin contact SB can be really fun too - I love Vie de Romans Pinot Grigio (it was my first orange wine ever and I fell in love!). Is their Sauvignon Blanc done with Skin Contact as well?

My favourite sauvignon blanc was the original Cloudy Bay(before LVMH bought it!). The last great vintage being 1994. It was a tropical fruit bomb; peaches, pineapple, gooseberry(of course) all exploding in your mouth. Have tried the Te Koko which is made from the original vineyard but the vines haven't aged well(in my opinion). It's not a bad wine but hardly memorable.

You are right, it isn’t bad at all. I prefer their single vineyard Pinot Noir over that

Excited to hear where else besides Marlborough! I would guess Alsace? Maybe paso Robles? I tried le Vigne Sauv Blanc and it was a bit hot for me at 14%, but it probably has potential! And I love the grassiness of some Chilean reds via Carmenere and Malbec, perhaps that sort of character could play well with Sauv Blanc

Casa Marin has some of the highest parker rated SB and thats in chille. But Sancerre is the origin and is almost "burgundy" alike thoose are more cool cilmate ones. more suttle than ex new zealand.

I like a Sauv Blanc every once in a while. I really wish I had some on hand right now. Its been over 100 three or four days out of the week and a chilled Sauv Blanc would be a god-send. I have a lot of red blends, Cab Savs and a Port in the wine stash but it's just too hot for those kind of reds.
