Do you have any videos that go more into the day to day, like how to actually run a resource room? How to best serve the students, particularly if you have limited time (30 minute push ins and pull outs) and resources/materials? This is amazing. Your district and school are blessed. I used to be one of those students and I look back on videos like this today as an autistic stay at home son at 40 being able to reflect on my times in school without the academic pressures and also without so much of the emotion of me missing my friends that I have made in school through videos showcasing teachers especially SPED teachers like this who have the resources that I wish were available back in my time so thank you for this and please keep right on doing it . By the way , I always compliment when I like what I see especially women who look good and as much as I wish to tell Chloe Diedam that she looks good , Carla … You look good yourself as well . i love your classroom space Chloe I was thinking of designing a special education shop class for people with autism and bipolar 1 and 2 types for teaching teens and adults with autism and bipolar to fix their own cars and learn how they work i had some ideas such as ralster images and using programs like Blue driver for programming cars ECU systems i remember using News 2 You as a bass line for special needs students like me i am touched by my heart by how wonderful your classroom setup is in my class we teach mechanical trades based on automotive such as rebuilding car engines and working on all brands of cars like Mitsubishi Pontiac and chevy etc Thanks i would love to have you guys in my future business organization as a classroom teacher or classroom assistant aid

i am in high school and I have autism and anxiety I am in 2 regular classes at school and the rest of the day I’m in a resource room. I have awesome EAs that know what I need during the day. My favorite EA is Jenn W She knows when I need to go out of class when its to loud And I also do work experience at petland and Jenn W is the EA that goes with me in the morning

Carla Butorac I really do have great resources to help me at school. The EAs that help me know the things I need The resource teachers know to put me with EAs that i am comfortable with and if I get put with a EA i am not comfortable with I have a meltdown crying and picking at my skin. things that help me when im anxious colouring sitting in a quiet room like resource teachers office with lights off listening to country music and walks in the hallway

Anyone have links to high school resource? I feel all these videos are slated not only for the youngest teacher demographic, but for K-3.

This room is just a support for students who need it. You would have access to it if you needed a break, a small group instruction things like that.

Bipolar can be very different than these depending on how much control is needed and what kind.

One thing we do to desensitize students is to encourage them to touch textures they don't like but in small doses. You could try touching other things with different textures, like shaving cream, a soft slime you can either make yourself or buy in a toy store, clay, play dough and then try touching thera putty just for short periods of time each day. Work on getting accustomed to the feel. See if that helps.

In Ontario Canada, if you have a recognized disability, you have access to the resource room and all of your accommodations.

Special education made my life terrible and to be honest with you you seem like you are a good teacher keep it up but the problem I had being in Special Ed I had teachers not helping me very well I had teachers telling me that I'm disabled telling me I have no future After High School and they were correct after many years of high school I'm not doing anything and I do have a job but I'm only working 4 days a week and special education made my life terrible it's the reason why I didn't go to Community College because they told me my grades were terrible my GPA is a d+ keep in mind that I had one months until I graduate high school my stupid teachers special education teachers called the superintendent Army and they were complaining how I want to start the program which it wasn't you I just had a hard time following Direction I had 1 months left until I graduate the age of 21

I am so sorry to hear that your time in the special education program was not helpful to you. I know in our school district, our students are the most important part of what we do. We work very hard to help all of our students succeed. I hope things go better for you in the future!

I am so sorry you had a rough time in school. No teacher should stomp on someone's dream. Redirect a dream? Sure. But never ever stomp on a dream. I hope you are able to overcome the Negative Nellies in your life and become who you want to be. The only person stopping you now is you! Keep on Keeping ON!!

Of course! They've learned that if they act up, they get what they want. So you need to set them up for success. Have a plan where you are proactive and set up situations where the student can get what he/she wants when they use their words instead of their bodies to communicate. Tell them "I'm not going to listen to your body communicate with me, you need to use your words to talk to me" Make sure they have the words to use...if they don't give them options to use then reward them for using their appropriate communication skills. If you re consistent, you should see a significant reduction in behaviors...simply because that method doesn't work anymore!

If we ever get the impression that someone is using behavior to get out of the classroom, we change the response to the behavior. Usually it's a lack of a skill that collides with a situation the student can't handle. That's where we try to teach the lagging skill they need.

If you have ADHD and went to the school would u get put in this class

no Students with ADHD only would get their educational services in a general education classroom. If the student has other issues, like an emotional disorder or a cognitive delay or an autism spectrum disorder then he/she may get support in this classroom. Students don't typically stay in this room all day. They come and go as needed.

We would design a program with a "sensory diet" to help with the student's need for movement. We would also put visual supports into place along with strong reinforcers to help with getting the student to focus for short but productive periods of time

Then that is a decision that is made by the case conference committee. We always look for the least restrictive environment that students need to be successful. If a student needs a self contained classroom to be successful then that is where the student should get his/her education.

I’m not in resource but I do have many classes where there’s a paraprofessional which is why people think I’m stupid. I also have to take supervised study instead of a language like most kids.

@@mughuman2579 People make stupid assumptions. Everyone needs help at different times in their lives, it never means they are stupid. It means this is one time where we need someone else to help us make certain steps we cannot make on our own! I had a speech teacher all the way through elementary school. I graduated Summa Cum Laude (the highest grades you can make in college). Needing help does not make you weak or stupid. It means you are strong and smart enough to know that you can't do some things on your own just yet!!

Very humiliating to be treated like a caged animal and not be able to get the proper education I need 👎 -10/10 education schools.
