Yes! Make yourself comfortable being uncomfortable. When my family was grown and I was alone I still wanted to enjoy the outdoors. That's when I began my solo tent camping road trips for 14-21 days. I'd get to a spot, enjoy it and move on to the next. My last trip was from near Seattle to Jasper in Alberta, Canada and Glacier National Park. It was glorious. I was 72 then before 2020 and now since it's very difficult sleeping on and getting off the ground, I have foreseen the end, but I still have those wonderful memories. We can't every stop dreaming and making memories, even if we need to change their direction. Good for you, Jill! You found you really can do it ... the uncomfortable.

Oh wow guys, this is awesome. I miss the days I used to throw a whole roast in the pizza oven and cook outside whilst gardening....that oven stayed at my old home. This inspires me to buy something similar... I wouldn't want to do a whole big pizza/ double oven build again. Happy cooking and smelling it whilst you're working, it's a awesome feeling and when you stop working you have food ready to warm you up and feed you ❤

Hey Y'all, Now I'm downright jealous I'm fixin to write Santa a letter Right Now and send it same day delivery! You can bake bread in that dutch oven but it takes some practice. We had learned about cooking in 1800'S kitchen where there was coals on the ground and thick heavy bar built in over the fire and all the kettles with handles would hang down on S hooks. Long hooks to lower closer to the fire increasing the temp or short hooks raining the pots reducing the heat. The dutch ovens with feet set in the coals with more coals on top works like an oven depending on the heat of the coals above and below to cook without burning. I bet you could find all kinds of classes with fire and cast iron. We go fishing in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area the border of Minnesota and Ontario Canada and all the protected wilderness there. We go fishing camping in canoes 4-5 days with no electricity and only what you bring. I have learned so much about cooking on a fire it is really great to know how. Like take a baking potato push in a ten penny nail poke some holes wrap in aluminum foil and throw it into the edge of the fire coals for one hour and perfect baked potato with smoky flavor. I think you are gonna have so much fun for real. Peace and blessings Cya next time

If you want to learn to cook over an open fire talk to your local Boy Scout troop!! Most have mastered how to reach a specific temperature with the correct number of coals on the top and bottom of the Dutch oven. There's probably some BS cook books online. You can't take a group of teenaged boys out into the woods for 3-5 days and not feed them well. I know my son (an Eagle Scout) rarely came home hungry (just a little stinky :) )!! He ate way better than his sister when she went camping with her Girl Scout troop!!

I love cooking outside! My daughter makes stone soup with her class and they actually read a story book about it with an actual stone in the pot (taken out before eating time). My husband and I looked at cast iron pots/pans yesterday on vacation and we were shocked at prices/weight.
