That foldable / travel dripper looks really interesting! I'm still using my reliable plastic V60 for pourovers; perhaps one day I'll experiment with different materials. Good video Chronicler. :)
Hario Switch Size 3 (larger). Love your hybrid recipe!
I like this video. I'll be referring back as time goes for tips. I also can't recommend the switch high enough. Getting some really great coffee with this one. Also was a game changer when brewing Robusta coffee
Hi, love the origami for his versatility
Your immercolation Hario switch recipe is my favorite coffee brewing method! Except I split the first pour halfway between a 45 second bloom pour, and then a regular pour. There's more juiciness and acidity this way, and that's just how I like my coffee the most.
Thanks. I'm convinced. I'm getting the V60. I take a lot of cream in my French Roast so heat retention is important.
I have the Oxo that does the work for me and it always makes delicious coffee.
The black version of the steel V60 is incredible
Good video and I bought a Switch based on your advice which I really like. Mugen also fits it perfectly.
tsubame is also fast, the filter is elevated and the circular bump on the bottom is for when its really heavy to support the filter and not clog the holes on the sides of the brewer. i have both b75 and tsubame, love both of them but for health reasons i use the metal Tsubame more than the plastic B75.
Nice video! I'm super curious if the nextlevel pulsar would make it into the list nowdays. Another advantage of the metal v60: it perfectly fits the hario switch. So you can get the 02 metal and 03 switch, and change cones for when you travel, for instance, so that its smaller and sturdier
Great video. Maybe I will purchase the hario switch some time soon. I bought a kalita wave a while ago, yet after using it for a while, i still gravitate towards the v60 when i want to brew something light roasted. Intrigued to buy the gabi master B to go with the brewers.
Another awesome upload. I enjoyed your vlog immensely. It is a lot of fun. Thank you so much for sharing. I wish you your continuing success. 👍316
I think the Melitta pour over system is the best, after all the method was first invented by Ms Melitta. I was using a ceramic Bonavita #4 cone, and a hybrid Bonavita #4 cone with a stop switch. Now I am using a ceramic Cilio #4 cone, which basically is a Melitta system with 3 holes. The flow rate is about the same as a Hario V60. I have a ceramic Hario V60 02, but I am not using it because it is limited to brew no more than 30g of coffee. The Hario V60 03 is made of plastics, and I hate plastics. Besides, the Melitta Bamboo filters are the best, in terms of odorless and flow rate.
Can you try and fit the metal V60 into the switch base and let me know if it fits please? Thank you 🙌
First time viewer. Really appreciate your knowledge and no nonsense presentation. Subscribed 👍

Talking about fast drippers, what about the OREA V3? What you think about that one?
nice! I wish Kalita released a new version of the ceramic wave with the Tsubame design, unlikely though lol. Ill probably pick up a steel V60 and Tsubame 155 next year.
Have you tested the Orea v3? Wondering if that would make the list. The Orea is getting a lot of praise.
It would be interesting to review and compare the Hario V60 with the Melitta filter system. Any possibility of doing that? As always, I enjoy and appreciate your fine content. Gut gemacht!
You should try Marna "Ready to" conical dripper (they also produce a paper filter with the same name). For me it is the best dripper in terms of ease of use & consistency. You just need to do blooming with circular pour & then center pour. I have tried so many coffee beans, from Kenyan washed to Colombian Gesha and the result is very consistent. Great clarity, amazing layer and all the notes are present. It's pretty cheap around $15 and the paper filter is at the same price as Hario

This is probably your best video so far, I really enjoyed watching it. And I am actually looking for a new filter for my travels. I was thinking about getting the Hario V60, but might choose the Tetra Drip instead. Which size do you have? The 1.5 or 3.5 cup version?
@coffeechronicler
Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words, Henry. I use the biggest version of the Tetra.
For me, having the Switch makes my standard V60 obsolete. I can still do a standard V60 pour over in the Switch without using the immersion option if desired, so it serves a dual purpose. No need for a second V60. One conical brewer to rule them all! Though, that Tetra does look like a nice option for backpacking. I hadn't seen that before.
What about Melitta drippers? Many options, been around longer than most others. Very easy to use. I love mine,I have the porcelain one hole,#4 filter. Perfect coffee everyday.

I will say MOST coffee channels don't give that vibe, relative to other industries on YT and social media. I'll give you that. I guess I'm speaking more to YT in general, as well as where (I fear and hopefully am wrong) the coffee social media space is going in general. Your channel on particular is a standout, but as I mentioned back in Feb on the HB forum in a post that you commented on "Lance Hedrick and other coffee influencers" in defense of your channel the following: "I always look forward to your videos, especially in the new studio. And how much time you spend genuinely answering folks in the comments section, in detail. And guess what? If it compensates you in some way directly or indirectly and you are still genuine in your approach, great. More power to you. I think people want some retired billionaire with unlimited time to review every esoteric coffee device that hits the market. Not happening." With that said, maybe I came across a little harsh, and as a result I will clean up my post. I just want the space to remain as (reasonably) genuine as possible.

Nice video and interesting to here other peoples opinions. Im designing a dripper based on my 20+ years of roasting and brewing. Its been in the R&D stage for 10 years. Its basically taking everything into account from all 18 drippers i own and putting the best features into one. But also concentrating on probably the most underrated aspect of drippers the experience and aesthetics. If companies think about this it only an afterthought by slapping on different colours. For me, the Clever dripper is the winner. I love the gasket and the ability to remove the dripper and set it on the counter without spills/drips. Also works for immersion/drip as you can pause and steep before draw down. Great for people with bad grinders, or someone who likes the strength of a french press but without the mud.

I love my Clever Dripper, no need for a goose neck kettle, that are expensive and more unreliable than $30 kettle, it is easy to use as a conventional Dripper if you prefer but for the morning you can get a loverly French press style coffee without the grit and it is less fiddly than an Aeropress. I use an Orea V3 for travel, and if I want to make a very high-quality coffee like Geishia.
Hey Asser! Thanks for the great video. Could you please someday share a video recipe with Timemore B75, there are no one whatsoever on KZread or Reddit
The question I have is where do you buy quality coffee beans? What do you look in a coffee brand? How can we know the farmers aren’t getting screwed by corporations? I’d really appreciate your input
Just wondering why you stated that the Clever Dripper is “more a steep first brewer”? I use your wonderful Hario Switch recipe with the Clever and it works perfectly. (I suppose you could argue that it’s a minor inconvenience having to lift the Clever off the carafe after the first stage then having to replace it for the final drawdown).
the mk dripper is really good and feels like the evolution of the Kalita.

Yes, I have a video from a few years back with a recipe I still use frequently. If you don't have a Gabi B, you can just pour carefully at the last step.
The metal v60 was my first pourover device. It was my daily driver for a few years, but after your previous recommendations for the cafec flower, I occasionally revisit the v60 but quickly go back to the flower. The v60 by comparison has too aggressive of an acidity & flatter aromatic notes. The Hario switch is interesting but I'd rather they have made it a device you could attach to the bottom of a glass or metal v60, ones with the removable base. Being able to swap between the 02 & 03 sizes with one switch base would have been a much more attractive idea
@coffeechronicler
Жыл бұрын
You can use the same Switch base with both 02 and 03. But yes it would be cool if it was also sold as a "modular" add-on for the people who already have detachable cone.

Maybe I'm just old school (Okay, I am old school), but what about the Melitta? Admittedly it's all I've ever used. I've commented before on another video that as a kid in the 70s, that's all we had, so I just went with it. Is the Melitta like the 1911 perhaps: dated and improved upon, but still loved by many and with an important historical contribution? Perhaps the ones you've shown are significantly better. I'm just curious how the old Melitta compares.

Cafec Flower is also great and in side by side comparisons can feel more balanced and suitable for fruity coffees, whereas V60 will enhance lower-scoring and more developed roasts with its unique acidity. For that reason I think the V60 is the better choice for the average user. However, all cone shaped drippers will have a lot in common, so in the end practical aspects such as material become the deciding factor, and steel is the better option for me.
B75 seems to have some material problems, according to some Chinese users' feedback, the base of B75 may be deformed after use at high temperatures or cleaning in boiling water
