Love the way you teach the play. I stole your 10 yard out idea. We run a post on play side to keep the safety off the y cross and a post curl on backside just to time up better. Thanks coach.

I've tried the post curl on the backside, but it never worked for me. What are your coaching points for it?

Coach McKie nothing fancy just post at 10 curl at 15 find the window. Just thought it times up better as a 3rd or 4th progression. Thanks again love your channel.

I coach both equipment and 7 v 7 football the play design is brilliant only concern is blocking scheme have to allow qb to get to 3rd read .. At youth lvl sometimes you only get one

Coach, Nothing wrong with that. I would use the same concepts when I played Madden. Glad I can help you, and hope that these concepts are helping your game.

Well said coach. Another thing I love about video games, and research is starting to back this up, is how it allows you to simulate play calling and game management.

Matthew Corwin yea your right. my 🎮 is ABAIRRAID so i be using the concepts now im aboyt to be y cross into the scheme as long as mesh with the corner route . What if some cross man meaning man the slots with the opposite corner?!

  • @Antwanh5

I run this with a token play action to hold the backers from sinking under the the cross. Works like a charm. Also, I follow the cross with a deep post. In quarters the safety will start following that cross and then we'll throw the post behind it. It's like stealing. Very tough concept to stop.

+Antwanh5 Coach Antwanh, Thanks for taking time out of your day to watch my video and leave a comment. It means a lot to me. You are right about play action working with this play. We use it for our play action as well. And we th the backside pout when that safety is cheating towards the cross. Great minds think alike coach. Do you do any tags for the play?

  • @Antwanh5

Coach McKie thanks for the content. Yes, I'll tag the backside post with a "POCO" which is our post corner. I like this a lot in the red zone. I'll also tag a basic or dig route to that post. I like that vs most two high with MOFO. Almost turns into a dagger concept because I teach the Y to inside release just like you and split the safeties vs cover 2. I like that tag in 2nd/3rd long situations. Also, I run a bubble with my slot instead of the out because it looks more like our base zone run. We have an automatic bubble on the run sonthe play action looks exactly the same. The read stays the same though and it gives us a playside hot target.

Coach McKie I also run it out of the split back set, stacked set and 2x2 11 personnel. I'll motion from 3x1 to 2x2 and run it like that as well. My split back, I'd align my slot receiver to the right and motion him to left and he'd run a swing and it's the same play.

Coach, I love how you run the bubble on play action. I know that's what Chip Kelly did while he was at Oregon, and it killed teams. I thought about doing that whenever I tag it with our Play Action.

The beauty of Y-Cross or Bubble-Y-Over concepts is all the window dressing that can be had with the same windshield wiper read for the Q. Love it from 20 with backfield motion. We also do Oregon version but have tagged 10yd out vs. Trap corners. Thanks for the videos Coach always good stuff.

coach, great stuff. We run y cross out of trips the same. We have a vert tag for our F. Our Y is working inside B then behind the LB"s our F is working outside the B then vertical. If the CB plays the dig...our F can run the corner. Not sure if you run any more variations

coach, great tape once again, I noticed on the tape the LineBackers didn't drop to five yards depth and they kept static feet is this common amongst the teams you play, do you think defenses are getting worse? Also I think on that third play if you'll run the T and F to the strongside (release the T between the oline), and the R up the field on a corner (both outside receivers need inside release ( the L runs a post)), the y gets 12-15 yrds depth on his cross, you will score on this almost every play because Y will not have any defenders on the entire right side of the field when he gets the ball in his hands. You may run something similar to this but I think you'll find this is much easier, no linebacker can keep up with a WR that long and the great thing is if the QB gets under pressure he can just throw the ball up to the Y because no defenders will be on that side of the field. Something else to look for on this play, the corner route will often have single coverage as well.

Have you ever considered having your F run a deep skinny post rather than the 10-yard out? We never have great, strong-armed passers, and the out route is too dangerous for our liking. I can remember a couple of pick six ints on soft throws. Thus, I don't allow this route with our offense, so the QB cannot make the bad read and give the other team six points. Our QBs can lob a pass 30 yards past the LOS into open space, and they are usually quite good at throwing the cross and fade, as we use the garbage can drills every day. The F can take the safety or safeties deep and clear out the middle for the Y to cross into the open and also guarantee single coverage on L on the fade.

Coach McKie, do you commonly block B.O.B. for your pass plays, slide protect to a side, or a combination of the two? Heck, do u even use something other than those two?

  • @CoachMcKie

Coach CLaybaker, I only use one pass protection - half slide. Sometimes I will keep the back in and sometimes I won't. But as far as the offensive line is concerned it is only half slide.

If you have a 2 back set and the defense is still in 2 high with only 6 in the box why run tag a run, because why would the safety on the single receiver side drop, would they not walk him down to take away the flat?
