    Great info for concept. In your 3x1 does F still have slant if a backer is up/man? Also in 3x1 your example canceled shoot route for protection, was this intentional for this formation or just a visual option?

    Need quick game to negate a dominate pass rush. Rules for negating a good pass rush... 1. Run the ball 2. Move the pocket 3. Throw quick game 4. Screen plays to try and wear them down. If they are a good pass rush team, the question is are the disciplined? Because a good front four will read the screen. If they play the pass rush well, they will normally be able to dominate in the run game. Roll out to move the pocket is great to help your QB. However, they know from the snap it's a pass play. Quick game allows for play action to freeze the defense, then it's a matter of catch right left and throw the ball on a high low concept or inside out on the flat defender...etc, etc...

    On the stick and up, we tell our reveivers to replace the boundary safety. If he is playing off the hash, and he should be in some sort of cloud coverage because there are three receivers in the boundary and he should carry one deep. So, when number 2 hitches, then bursts up the field, he should attack the space vacated by the safety carrying 1 vert. If he drives on the stick concept, same thing, if he in a shark technique then we tell him to cross the safety's face.

    Coach, are your WR splits you have here on Hudl the same ones you practice? I assume getting the widest splits possible forces the OLB to make a decision, as well as keeps the stick route away from hook to curl zone.

    It depends on the strength of the QB's arm. If he has a cannon then we will widen out. If he doesn't then we will come in some.

    Coach excellent video. I do have a question on backside pattern, understand the rule for backside is hitch at 3 yds. of DBs are playing 6/7+ yard off and slant if they are in press mode. If the outside DB is in press mode but the inside DB is playing off (6/7+yd) that seems to have the WR #1 run a slant and the WR#2 still doing a hitch. While not critical to the field side, it would appear that to the boundary side you will now have both WRs close to each other and I was always taught that was NO-NO. What do you tell you back side receivers to keep them from both being in the same area of grass when the outside BD press but inside DB is off? Thanks

  • @graydonlahmers5033

    @graydonlahmers5033

    Coach McKie, yes from a 2x2 and asking about the backside receivers that are to the boundary since the amount of space is cut down. If the wide DB gives the WR#1 press look and the DB over WR#2 is off look (6/7+ yds,).

    You could do a couple of things. You could tell the quarterback to throw the vert if you know the defense is going to be in cover 2. You could post the vertical if you know they are going cover 2. You could hit the slant or hitch to the backside slot if they are keeping the LB on the box. Or you could tag the stick to the pin and pull and run the ball.

    Coach Anna, How are you teaching them the concept? What I do is put a cone out in front of them at about 4 yards and have the receivers run to that cone and turn around. I've got a drill that I talk about on my upcoming Simplifying the Air Raid Quick Game video.

    Coach McKie we try to have our receivers read the LB inside of them to determine whether to settle in the space or to find green grass to the outside. The reads in our drills make it easy for them to determine. But the reads during the game aren't so black and white. I need to find a different way of teaching it

    Do u have anything on scat concepts? What you have drawn up here is called scat in ncaa 14, I've heard other ppl refer to scat in 3 by 1 sets short to mid range routes where one of either the farthest outside or 2nd furthest takes a deeper corner or post, the game also has those but calls them switch.
