The best patio heater, bar none

If you're going to invite friends round this summer, it's probably best they stay outside, so I reviewed possibly the best outdoor patio heater you can buy, the Fatboy 2.4 from www.heat-outdoors.co.uk/elect....

    Sound great... That is until your next electricity bill arrives !... If only we were in the 1980's where electricity was a bit cheaper... I would love one of these patio heaters inside my workshop 😁

  • @arlo.guthrie

    Well, I guess most people use these things relatively infrequently, when they want to sit outside in the freezing cold, and the bill doesn't amount to much. But you're right, more expensive if you have it on all day every day in a workshop!

    @@arlo.guthrie Agree 100% mate. Sadly the government does nothing to cap the prices of energy - Back 50 years ago lots of people had these radiant infrared heaters everywhere, in the early 1980's we had one in the lounge with 3 x 1000 watt 24 inch long bars plus 2 x 40 (or 60 watt bulbs) to illuminate the fake fire wood in a lovely orange/red (which really gave the room some warmth !).... and I remember it was on 2 bars most of the time to heat up a large room in the winter (It was large Victorian villa house)... I also remember my mum just calmly paying the electric bill at the post office and it was around £150 - £200 for that quarter and not giving it a second thought !... Now if we ran that thing in 2024 all day for 3 months the bill from EDF would be £2,700 ! It's a great shame because I love those orange glowing radiant heaters that warm up all the furniture, not just their air ! Best of luck.

  • @arlo.guthrie

    @arlo.guthrie

    3 жыл бұрын

    Well, you might be able to find another stand made by another manufacturer that you could adapt. But it would have to be pretty hefty. The concrete base of one of those outdoor sun umbrellas might work (www.amazon.co.uk/PARASOL-HEAVY-FURNITURE-GARDEN-UMBRELLA/dp/B00CKJSK9M/). Buy 6 ft of metal tubing. Drill a couple of holes and Bob's your uncle! I used the Heat Outdoors extension because it is waterproof, but no reason I can think of why you couldn't use another waterproof connection.

    You could import one as NEMA 6-15/6-20 to BS1363A adapters are derp easy to build as long as you have a 240V receptacle to plug into, and these heaters are frequency agnostic and will run on 60cy/sec electricity no problem. 120V versions of these would be lower power due to the 1.44kW steady state limit of 15A 120V circuits.
