Great Video. Nailed 2 birds with 1 stone. All the vehicles to AVOID knowing they’ve been owned by P platers !! If someone thinks to even pay $20k for an old XR5 ticking time bomb is crazy for that money you’d buy a Focus or Fiesta ST with more features and better built vehicle. Very informative. 😊

Those XR5's at $20k don't usually move... Even the ones at $15k don't really move either... But when they're below $11k, you pretty much need to run to get one because they get sold straight away...

@@MartinJones123 Exactly mate in Sydney I have a couple on my watch list LV models for $8-$9k leather and sunroof. Even ST fiesta and Focus ST pick up $12K these days.

@@rc70ys Yep, you can pick up a MK3 Focus and MK7 Fiesta for about $12k nowadays, and I did look at these before purchasing my XR5T but they just didn't do it for me... The infotainment system area looked ugly and they don't have that 5 cylinder growl... Sunroofs on XR5T's aren't very common from my experience, and the leather seat option does make you lose the middle seat...

Not many of these P-Plate car videos around... A Part 2 would be cool, maybe focusing on the under $10k budget range as this one focused more on the $15-20k range... The Mazda 3 MPS and 6 MPS use a Ford 2.3T (similar to the MK3 Focus) while the Ford XR5T Mondeo and Focus use a Volvo 2.5T... The MPS is cool, but it does apparently torque steer really badly...

Thanks Martin, I've got a nice little list ready for a Part 2 so I might end up making it. And I agree a budget range of possibly 5-10K could be a cool idea as well, yes I've heard the torque steer in the mazda's can be quite a handful, appreciate you watching the video and leaving a comment 🙌🏼

@@TheGearChange 👍 I've seen videos of MPS torque steer, and it can throw you onto the other side of the road... Some say XR5T's aren't the best when it comes to torque steer but if driven normally, it isn't an issue... You can still get XR5T's under $10k, though you have to be careful as that's where the rough ones are, but you can still find a deal...

@@MartinJones123 I just looked up some videos myself to have a little look, they definitely seem to be more aggressive with torque steer then the XR5’s are but I guess that’s to be expected with a hot hatch with that much power from factory. And for sure, you can definitely find some XR5 Turbos for that price, just gotta search around 🤝🏼

VW Polo GTI's are good to just make sure they haven't been thrashed.

Don’t buy any polo gti pre 2015 as the timing chains are made out of boiled potato’s. if u want a polo gti get one 2015 onwards with the 1.8T mated to a manual. Much more reliable box and engine. Would steer away from the 7 speed DSG as it has the DQ200, which is known for its unreliability. If you want an auto polo gti, go for the AW model (2019+) 6 speed DQ250 which is much more reliable than the 7 speed DQ200 in the older models.

Yes I believe it is, best way to check is using the Carsales app and putting the Audi S3 in there and under other options add Victoria as the P plate state. And from what I’ve seen they do seem to be P plate legal 👌🏼

@@abdellatifbelhadj6144 Hmmm that’s odd, it may or may not depend on the engine they have as well as if it’s a convertible or not. As they base it on a power to weight ratio, so if it’s slightly heavier and has the same power it could be legal but if it’s 50KG maybe more lighter it could be classified as illegal on P’s. Have a little look around and also ask your local transport and main roads to see what they say 😄

@@TheGearChange yea convertible are legal sedans aren’t and the hatchback are but 2013 only I was looking for a 2016 but when I put in the p plate legal thing it came back with the 2013 being the latest

No the gearbox is a ticking time bomb too 10k extra not good for a p plater lol and bad on fuel

mate the 350Z isnt p plate legal for VIC or NSW

In every state other than New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia you can have a 2003 Nissan 350Z on P plates. I also stated in the video at 8:37 seconds in that there’s a specific model that is P plate legal and one that isn’t. As I live in Queensland I chose cars that are legal here and in “most” of Australia.

OH man. What are you doing ?? You might have leant to do drive on L plates in a fast car or did a track day or two ? Most L's don't have luxury Telling a new driver about faster cars to learn on is bad man. Australian law states that 130kw per tonne is the limit for P plates in all states. So most cars in the vid would past. But add boost or a tune the car is not legal to drive and the insurance is gone. Still liked the cars man. Happy holidays

Thanks for watching the video mate, I wasn’t necessarily trying to encourage P plate or L plate viewers to get these cars I was just recommending cars that are fun to drive and ones that they can make their own with a few little cosmetic mods or potentially performance mods later down the line when they are on there open license. Also for Tasmania, Western Australia and the Northern Territory they can drive a V8 on their P’s and many other high powered cars due to the difference in population density. I’ll be making a Part 2 as well as a budget list as well so people can see what other options are out there as well 😄
