The Best Omakase in Greenwich Village: Sushi Chef with Daisuke Nakazawa
Ойын-сауық
Daisuke Nakazawa is the co-owner and sushi chef at Nakazawa in Greenwich Village, New York, one of the city’s most renowned destinations for omakase. He serves a style of sushi inspired by his adopted hometown, taking the skills he learned during his his 11-year-apprenticeship at Sukibayashi Jiro - of Jiro Dreams of Sushi fame - and applying them to ingredients and flavor profiles that would ruffle feathers at home in Tokyo. Always rigorous, but never a purist, Nakazawa’s drive to become number one is helped by his refusal to be bound by dogma.

These are the chefs you should be covering for Sushi Chef.

Well by Japanese edomaezushi standards, nakazawa is really experimenting. Though there's a fine line between experimenting and taking the piss. Lettuce on rice certainly is something... but I don't think it's sushi.

I love that, "The Only One". It's so much more inspiring to be "The Only One" of something, rather than "The Number One" of something. Diversity is the key to creating a better society.
I'm so happy to see Daisuke san so happy in New York. It must be so difficult to turn things around inside you after working for Jiro san. He could be the most dedicated Sushi apprentice in America making sushi right now. If I were lucky I'd live in New York.
That guy at 1:39 knows his shit, flipping it upside down guarantee contact between the fish and your tongue.

usually you dip the fish side into soy sauce and put it in your mouth fish side. They do this to prevent the rice from getting soggy/falling apart

ForceOfWizardry ask a respected sushi chef and many will tell you upside down is better but not all. There is no ancient secret one way to eat sushi. Eat it how you like it but show respect to the chef.

I'm happy to see all those years of hard work at Jiro's shop paid off for Nakazawa!
This was such a great video, well produced, interesting and informative
Definitely my favorite ep!
"New York-mae". It's cool that he's creating a sushi style specific to NYC.
lovely, love ur video, please keep on making more
Jiro dreams of sushi kept me on brink of tears the entire movie
Beautiful. I love when a chef is both passionate about his craft and open minded about the world outside of it.
Such ambition, will stop by when Im in nyc!

This felt like a combination of sushi chef and chefs night out, I liked it.
Another superb production and episode done by the @Munchies #Munchies team. One day I hope to eat sushi Omakase style. What an honor that would be.
I want someone to fly Jiro out to try his disciple's food. Given how much Jiro loves and innovates I reckon he'd be proud. I mean, thats if you can get Jiro to take a day off, let alone a week or two.
I could watch this all day
Seems like yesterday when Daisuke Jumped for joy after Jiro approved his first legit Egg Cake as a Deshi Chef.
I knew it! That's why this guy was familiar. I was watching Jiro's Dream of Sushi, and he was in it. Guys better watch that documentary it's really cool.
I was so gutted when I noticed this place wasn't in Greenwich village in London.

Would love to go there one day!
Lovely video
delicious sushi been here a few times
I am looking forward to dine like this
His laugh is so contagious.
Man he's such a nice guy. And he invents sushi the same way Jiro does. So amazing
Fiquei muito feliz com a coragem e determinação desse chefe... Sair de Tokio. E desbravar os estados unidos.... Muito competente e esforçado. Desde a época do Jiro suhsi
This guys a G. Much respect
The guy seems genuine I hope him success
ill be here soon. thanks munchies
Awesome story, munchies!
What a lovely guy!
Nice to see his humble approach to fish. Like serving salmon because it's simply delicious, and wanted by the customers. That's the mindset to make a business work. I'm sure Gordon Ramsay would approve. :)
His laugh is contagious
looks so good! =33333

hansen He's a partner. Alessandro, his partner seems slick; I hope Nakazawa has good legal representation, because his skill and expertise contribution is worth more than any venture capital contribution Alessandro brings to the table. Without Nakazawa, there would be NO sushi restaurant.
I don’t even like seafood yet I watched this whole thing and want to eat everything
I'm going to try this place out in december. How many sushis are served in this omakase course?

aw Daisuke Nakazawa is so cute. What a nice person. I love how he said he follows American custom so he eats all the food that's typical american lol
wtf!! that sushi is raw!!
I would much rather eat at this gentleman's sushi restaurant than Jiro's... Sure, Jiro is an absolute master at his craft, but the atmosphere he radiates is... Intimidating. On the other hand, this guy has a great personality, warm and friendly, easy laughs. Plus his sushi is likely also outstanding. I'd much rather prefer a sushi master I can talk to and laugh with than one who stands there silently with an air of deep seriousness. That, and since I wouldn't know how to eat all the dishes properly, I'd want to ask, and I get the feeling Nakazawa would be much more accommodating than Jiro. I could be wrong, but that's just my thoughts from what I've seen.
I wish I be there and eat Japanese food.
This is crazy, I've watched this episode for more than 10 times already. Nakazawa is the real deal!
mike colamecco did a show about these guys lots of years ago
I would absolutely love to go there. I had an omakase sushi lunch at Yasuda, and was enraptured. It was so delicious. There were business people just chatting around me at the sushi bar popping the little perfect morsels in their mouths without noticing. I couldn't believe it. Each one was presented with care so perfectly, warmed by the chef's hand, perfect rice, and seasoned already. Gorgeous. The next time I visit New York I will try Nakazawa.
i want sushi so bad ... 😱😱😱😱😱😱 .... but i'm broke 😫

You know you're GREAT at something when you serve customers what YOU want... and they have no say in it... lol...
11 years of hard working will pay off in any profession.
He is a really simple guy
Is nobody gonna talk about how the shrimp head and body was still moving after he killed the shrimp?
He is one funny chef, I love his raughs :D
オープンした時よりも 自分という物を持ってきたような 気がします
how much is it
He's basically the chef version of Saitama in training.
That music does not mix at all. Lost the vibe.
That must be a very expensive restaurant, all the staff and even at the door.. cost of floor space.... and less than a dozen people eating when it appears full!!!

overworkedasian Oh yes, I'm definitely not criticizing. To eat at a top restaurant in London is very expensive. It will have to be your next venture (London) . :-) Nb: I live in the Japanese part of London, many Japanese people line up at a certain time of the year to buy the raw products etc so I am guessing there are certain Japanese celebrations, also very considerate people.

***** You could say that about any food in any restaurant. Diners pay for the experience, the service as much as the food itself.
Hi
Seared sushi?
he's a electrician now lol
Try all you want but you can never come anywhere near Jiro my friend , that being said you are good tho , maybe in NY?.!!!👍🏼👍🏼👏👏🇺🇲🇯🇵
Did he just say he had opened a 4 star japanese restaurant? :')
Gordon Ramsay: is fucking raw!!!!!!!!!!!
