    I absolutely LOVE these videos bud! Keep them coming! I can't get enough when it comes to the Turbografx 16/ PC Engine content! Grew up with the console and still collect for it current day. Been getting alot of use out of my Analogue Duo as well!

    Ys 1&2 is my favorite game for the turbo CD and I'm not even a huge RPG fan. I can definitely see someone not being into the bump combat though. It grew on me the more I played the game and wish more games used it.

    all good choices, Spriggan is highly underrated. As for the Ys combat, the bump combat is meant to be done at angles not head on, if Adol is slightly off center on an enemy and bumps them, they take damage and he doesn't and in Ys 2, you get a fire wand too to shoot fireballs as a secondary attack. Combat is actually better than it initially seems.

    Yeah, I had Ys 1&2, and loaned it to a friend back in the day. He had trouble with the combat, and the advice I gave him was to play it like the arcade game JOUST. It isn't a perfect analogy, but it worked for him.

    This is exactly the trick. I have beaten the first 3 games more times than I can count (ys3 as a side scroller was interesting. I have only played through 4 once)

    Another great showcase, Johnny. There’s a few here I’ve never heard of, but a dungeon crawler? I’m all over that! This version of Shadow of the Beast has a bit more polish especially in the soundtrack area it seems and I’ll have to give it a try too. You’ve given me more retro fun (especially great quality TurboCD retro fun) to jump into! 😄

    Awesome more goodies to look at, I own most of the Hu Cards, but have kept the CD collection fairly thin as I am overly paranoid of them getting scratched, disc-rot or flat out refusing to boot, so if I do make a purchase it has to be a great game due to the insane cost as unlike Hu cards they're far more likely to crash or jump and mid-game it's soul destroying.

  • @Johnnygrafx

    @Johnnygrafx

    I wouldn't worry *too* much about that honestly. Disc rot is pretty rare and generally only happens in sub-par storage environments. Plus, you can always back up your cd games on a PC and make copies for playing to be extra safe!

    @@Johnnygrafx I'm going to back them up onto an SD Card via the Analogue DUO's recent Jailbreak so that's that sorted. I do wig-out over my original CD's though as I really looked after my Playstation games and it happened to a handful of those, most of the PCE collection is cart' based and so far no issues with the CD games despite them being older than the Playstation Discs, it could've been a weird one off perhaps those Disc's were subject to some unusual temperature shift which caused the data on the aluminium layer to warp and cause the light to bleed through or Aliens did it??? I need to get a vid' of the 90 or so games I have for it up at some point, getting all the footage will likely take an age though.

    Surprised me a bit when you were listing other notable titles from Compile and didn’t mention Blazing Lazers. The PC Engine was one of the few 3rd and 4th gen systems that didn’t get an Aleste, but it did get Blazing Lazers, which is so quintessentially Compile that it’s practically an Aleste in all but name, even if it was published by Hudson.

    @@Johnnygrafx Oh, no, I didn’t mean I was surprised you didn’t cover it for the video, just when you were talking about Spriggan and listed other notable Compile titles on the Turbo without mentioning BL, that’s all. When I think Compile and PCE, Blazing Lazers is always one of the first games to come to mind for me.

    The turbo grafx was something that completely eluded me growing up. None of my friends had one. It seems awesome, I'm just not a fan of schmups. 40% of the turbos library is schmups which is unfortunate for me.

  • @Johnnygrafx

    There's plenty of non-shmups that still justify getting into it IMO. Lots of side scrolling action games and oddities like Devil's Crush are amazing.

    To this day I struggle with enjoying Shadow of the Beast. The enemy design is so random and uninspired. The game doesn't have a consistent art direction to get behind.
