Giannis doesn't play defense. He is the defense.

God I miss getting hyped at these plays live, it felt like he had a couple every game

There are elite "rim protectors" like Brook, Davis or Gobert. There are legit "perimeter defenders" like George, Leonard or Simmons. There are "pests" like Beverley, Smart or Bledsoe. And then there is Giannis that can do everything.

@@andrewliu111 Being able to contest a shot and not being a liability on the pick and roll (like Gobert) doesn't make AD a perimeter defender. He wouldn't be able to overplay (he has never done that) or lock down a guard through out the course of a game simply because his body is not built for it. He lacks the quickness in lateral movement and the stamina to cope with the constant effort that kind of defense demands. Surely, he can respond a lot better than other bigs on situations as a pick and roll/pop (mostly pop) or an inbound perimeter pass but he would never be assigned to mark a guard. Unlike him, Giannis is assigned to guards (primary ball handlers) quite often and he responds well even if it exhausts him. AD maybe a well rounded defender but he is considered a rim protector. Not an all around one.

Giannis showcasing how defense can win you championships.. Hopefully he wins a ring soonest as he keeps this pace of activity up 🤞🤞🇳🇬🇬🇷
