Peru has by far the richest history of any of the South American nation. This is in terms of history, agriculture, archeological, architecturally and also for food. This goes back to Peru's early Spanish colonial, Incan and pre-Incan civilizations which go back at least 3000 years. No other South American nation comes close to Peru's cultural and historical heritage, except maybe the Aztecs and Mayans of old Mexico and Central America.

Peru has a variety of dishes. Each region has their own taste . Gordon has to go to the Jungle and North of Peru . Many years ago when I was young I travel along the Peruvian coast all the way to Tumbes looking for the best ceviche . After tasting all of them I found it at the Port of Salaverry , the fishermen just caught them and the cooks made the best ceviche we've ever tried.

This is such a great series! I still think that the purple potatoes cooked in llama manure with homemade cheeses was one of the best meals I've ever had in my life. So glad that I got the chance to visit Peru and it's so cool to see Gordon experience it!

@@AndreiFantastic yes I did! But I realize now that it was Llama poop, not cow poop. Dried out poop makes for good kindling since it’s just compacted grasses and feed, and anything gross gets burnt out anyways. It sounds iffy but it tasted great! No complaints and I’d do it again in a heartbeat.

Is not really cooked in manure it’s more manure is used as the heat source instead of a gas or wood alternative because it’s easier, cheaper ect

Im Peruvian, grew up in Lima and moved to New York, Ramsey has explored more Inca culture than ive done all my life, respect.

Great series, and the people of Peru, wow the smiles, kindness. You can see how amazing they are with such a basic life. And Gordon is such a different human outside from his hells kitchen lol Bravo 👏

@@jeegsaw527 potatoes originate from all sorts of parts in south America. Mostly because they are different kinds of potatoes, on different places. Peru has the biggest variety of potatoes, but they are not the source of ALL kinds.

It’s probably bcs they are not used to the corn cooked Like that, here in Peru (at least in the coast, where I live) it’s usually boiled instead

Yeah. Even in the big modern cities in Peru we eat everything. I remember coming to Europe and they though that I won’t eat the inside of a Chicken 😂 it’s nothing related with social classes it’s a National tradition and all the mixed background that we have: Europeans, Africans, Asians and Indigenas

They were ingineered by the Incas and other cultures from Peru. In a totally natural way, but there still was some human intervention to make them!

It's true, I'm Peruvian from the Coast and here we don't eat the meat or fish well done but people in the Andes like it well done. In my opinion it takes away the taste and tenderness of the meat. But that is personal. I would have eaten those medium-rare hearts 😋 they looked delicious !
