    @@Mike--Oxmall i think he made a very unfair comment, she wasn't insane at all, she was a private person who unfortunately battled with a lot of health issues throughout her life. she did what she did for the love of the job, not for fame.

    Totally agree she’s one of the greats, but I think she did get full recognition, you could feel the shock and grief when she passed away from public and celebrity alike, heartbreaking it came so close to Victoria Wood’s passing too.

    People always tend to immediately say things such as "underrated" and "not enough recognition" when someone has died. Well I think after 11 awards and 5 nominations, she did get the deserved recognition. It's just tragic that her life was cut so short.

    I tell you what ... back when this was on the Tele and there was no internet, you tuned in to this every week and got all your exercise for the evening picking yourself up off the floor. She was brilliant.

    Very scripted but that's not to take away the brilliance of Caroline Aherne's delivery of the "set pleces". Comedy genius indeed. RIP Caroline.

    I think closely followed by "does your wife watch Supermarket Sweep" (you can see him thinking 'ha you bitch'). And not on this video, when Martin Clunes comes on she says to the pensioners "do you know who he is now girls?"

    Her comedy and creativity is amazing,and Mrs Merton,brilliant character to get away with saying anything,it was almost like the guests were fooled into thinking she was senior citizen and just had to sit and take what she said,add the audience and the illusion was complete,brilliant.     I'd not heard that one .. she was as sharp as a knife tbh i wish she'd done more Mrs Merton... she was just soo quick with her replys but her put downs were legendary. A lot of young comedians should watch this and realise you don't have to f and blind to make a point

    Chris Eubank was so egotistical and he made a complete fool of himself. Some people are just incapable of laughing at themselves. Aherne was superb.

    Every episode was brilliant. I remember her heated debate on conservation. 'Sting he's great isn't he, all that saving the rainforest. But where was he when they dug up our bowling green.' Brilliant. I also loved her routine Sister Immaculate who was a catty nun. Much missed Caroline.

    'The Tears of a Clown' may be an age old saying: It is widely known that Caroline had many personal troubles. I hope that the name of 'Caroline Aherne' wil be embedded in history for all time as one the best ever talents in the history of comedy.

    This comedy style of interviewing originated in Australia in the 1970s by a tv character named Norman Gunston real name Garry MacDonald, a brilliant actor and comedian.

    So many great guests and the host, who are sadly no longer with us. Though, I had to laugh when Mrs Merton said Rolf Harris and Prisoner Cell Block H were the two best things to come out of Australia. Rolf became his own prisoner in Cell Block H!
