“Kimigayo” is one of the poems 1000 years ago. The author of this poem is an unnamed people. The meaning of this poem is that a loved one wants you to live long. In this poem, there will be no revolution, no bravery, no enemies. It is only a desire that the people want to live healthy and peacefully.

For me,as a Japanese It's our hope of rising from the intense devastation the war had brought upon us, just like how the sun rises. There's so much sorrow and solemnity I think, because many have become widows, and orphaned. This is their cry. A voice that speaks for their restless souls is a melodious voice singing a hopeful lullaby. "Until the pebbles grow into boulders lush with moss." We have strong loyalty and faith to our country, and that line from our anthem for our family symbolizes that no matter the circumstances,we will fight for our land of birth. We have faith, that our country will be known to generations of the future, The nation where we started, and the nation where we will lay upon our deathbed, Our Country,Our Motherland, Japan.

It’s all about mono no aware, an untranslatable Japanese term roughly meaning “the sadness of things” - this sense of the transitory nature of existence and it’s inherent sadness. If you look up the lyrics of kimigayo too, it’s all about the longevity of the Japanese imperial family, nation and people.

  • @zdefry

I had goosebumps when she sang this Japan National Anthem.., The melody feels a little bit haunting and misterius.. It's very different from other national anthem.. But I really like it.. Kimigayo is A Devine Masterpiece...

I don't usually like national anthems (I always keep the sound muted until the game starts), but my God this was goose bumps stuff - the song, the singer, the restrained bow. Everything. I might even watch it again...

Hi, Japanese neighbours. I am South Korean, and I think this is a soulfully beautiful rendition of Kimigayo that deeply moves the soul of any human being. I really LOVE how her vocal adds a layer of an ethereal element to the anthem.
