The Best of Guzheng - Chinese Musical Instruments - Relaxing Music Part 1
-------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------- Wiki ----------------------------
-------------------------------------------------------------------
The guzheng (Chinese: 古箏), also known as the Chinese zither, is a Chinese plucked string instrument with a more than 2,500-year history. It has 16 (or more) strings and movable bridges. The modern guzheng usually has 21 strings, and is 64 inches (1,600 mm) long. It has a large, resonant cavity made from wutong wood. Other components are often made from other woods for structural or decorative reasons. Guzheng players often wear fingerpicks, made from materials such as ivory, tortoiseshell, resin or hard plastic, on one or both hands.

It's so sad to see that so many people in the comments were criticised for the Chinese heritage. I feel that one's heritage and culture makes up a large chunk of who they are and thus making fun of one's culture is the same as shaming the person itself. Chinese culture is so beautiful and so are all the cultures in this world. Please never be ashamed of your culture and who you are, you are unique and take pride in it. Don't let other tell you otherwise

You make pleasant points. What are your thoughts about people of those culture who fly planes into tall buildings, or fire rockets into civilian areas, or chant death to people of other religions, races, and cultures, including their own minority off-shoots? This may sound uncomfortable to answer but is it not in asking the question that one is able to make peace with facts?

I’m Mexican and when I was little I had a Chinese neighbor who would invite me over to play with her and her sister. Their mother would play the Guzheng sometimes and it would instantly give me goosebumps. It made me feel at peace and even now it makes me want to cry lol but it became a core memory. She also made amazing dumplings I have yet to try any that come close to the ones she made. I never got to say goodbye since she moved while I was out of town but I still think about them every time I hear the Guzheng.

If China were viewed more positively with less anti-Chinese sentiments most Chinese people would definitely take pride in their ethnicity. Take a look at Japanese people, decades ago they were similar to Chinese people now yet they are the most loved country right now while China is one of the least liked. I just wish all ethnicity would be viewed equally and stop fighting.

In regards to your comment about ancestral shame, there are many aspects of my ancestry that I don't like. My grandfather was raised Russian Orthodox. I am proud of my Slavic heritage, don't get me wrong, but learning how the Russian people were deceived by the Orthodox Church and its numerous treacheries against Catholics and Muslims made me differentiate myself from my ancestry. Just because I am part Russian doesn't mean I am Nicholas II or Vladimir Lenin, but I still have the Slavic bloodline running through my veins. (Sidenote: one can tell this due to my high tolerance for alcohol and the fact that I can wear shorts even in °30 weather.) There are parts of Chinese culture I dislike, but that doesn't mean that all aspects of China must be thrown away. Continue listening to the guzheng even if you are disgusted by Confucius, and continue reading Confucius even if you are disgusted by the current Chinese government. Keep what you like about the culture, and throw that which you don't away. Ancestral shame, just like ancestral pride, is a good thing in moderation.

I literally can not wait to become an adult and be able to visit china one day. edit: read about people sharing their experiences as a Chinese person. If you went through hard ones or is currently in a hard situation please read this, don’t feel ashamed. your country is one of the oldest ones in the entire world and you have a lot of culture and history. If a American ever bullies u just tell them sum like “ at least I have culture “ (kinda childish but it’s TRUE) Your culture; music, clothing, traditions are all amazingly beautiful. I love your donghuas and novels! Specially Xianxia . I get to enjoy more of your music and martial arts. Which I like lots! Now my point is, you have a lot that most countries don’t and not comparing btw, All countries have beautiful culture but yours can’t compare, don’t ever feel ashamed! My best friend, who passed away years ago, was Chinese. She was a lovely person, very kind and caring and her family was the same way. They welcomed me into the warmth of their family, they didn’t care that I was American. As I didn’t care they were Chinese. They were some of the best people I have ever known. It is extremely unfortunate that so many people are prejudice because of someone’s heritage or ethnicity.

Ni hau. I have a Chinese friend for 45 years. She shows to me a lot about Chinese Tradition and culture. China is not only Mao tze dung, or communism. Or the emperor. Chinese has the oldest culture ever. Older than Egypt. I'm glad, that the Revolution didn't destroy all. The architecture is amazing, the Embroidery phantastic, the gowns wonderful, the discipline until today impressed, the music is strange but wonderful. I love Gu zheng, its like the european harp. The melodies can be magic. If you say something about a strange culture, first you have to learn about it.
