There is, quite literally, no-one more universally loved, admired and respected as Ritchie Benaud.

Damn, such a great man and commentator. There’s no comparison. Listening to radio 4 through the night as a kid etched his voice and observations right into my psyche. Just having a beer, watching a few classics. None more than this fellow. Much love, from Yorkshire.

Living in England as a kid, Richie was the main face, presenter of cricket on the BBC. I never knew he was an Aussie, straight down the line....That was Richie, for a man to be the face of another country ie cricket tells you what kind of a guy he was. RIP Richie....The best.

Childhood cricket watching memories is incomplete without commentary of legends like Sir Richie Benaud, Sir Bill Lawry and above all Sir Tony Grieg.

I remember back in the early 2000's the BBC had a primitive app called "Desktop Richie" where a little cartoon Richie would pop up and inform you of the latest developments in the match :). Beloved enough to have his own app before apps were a thing!

You don't need to remind us everytime that he's no more. I keep coming back to hear his voice and that reminds me that good old lad is still there amongst us.

There were so many more than that! Dad and I laugh so hard back in the 80’s

His voice had the silken touch like David Gower's Batting. Sir Richie Benaud truly enthralled all the cricket lovers, across the globe, with his immense knowledge, wisdom and love for the game. He and Tony Greig, Two of the Most Incredible Cricket Observers ever.... because their commentary and knowledge sharing went beyond what they saw on the TV in front of them :)

As Daryl Cullinan walks off after being LBW to Warne, with a flipper... "He's seen one flipper". Ie. the exaggerated one Warne showed him first ball, so that he missed the genuine one which just took his wicket.

Benaud's class transcended generations.

I remember a test at Old Trafford in the 1990s, where Benaud was admiring the hanging baskets on the pavilion. "A marvellous sight. Petunias, Chrysanthemums and morning glory (Ipomea). Some younger viewers may have a different interpretation of morning glory".🤣

To be one of Australia's greatest cricket captains, and yet have it not even be controversial that a video of your "Best of" moments doesn't include anything from your cricket playing career. That's when you know you've made the most of your life.
