The best of Albany - EPIC FREE CAMP, HIKING & INCREDIBLE BEACHES | Western Australia Road Trip

Albany. Just W.O.W! This is one of the most epic coastlines we’ve explored on our big lap Australia. Sapphire blue water, squeaky white sand, dramatic granite backdrops and a beautiful beach camp that’s free. What’s not to love ❤️
During the road trip we explore the best of Albany.
WHERE TO STAY
⛺️ Cosy Corner East Campground
An epic FREE CAMP (outside peak season, and $15 per site in peak), right next to the beach. Toilets & a dump point included. Arrive at 10am ish to grab a spot as people leave. 20 mins drive to Albany, grab a coffee from the lovely general store in walking distance (they also do morning yoga).
WHAT TO DO?
🤩 Site see The Gap & Natural Bridge
Located in Torndirrup National Park. It’s FREE and 100% accessible, car park on site. This is a sight to behold! Crashing waves, the power of the ocean is spectacular to witness, and don’t forget to read the signs to learn about the Indigenous Dreamtime Stories of this area.
🏖 Cool off at Misery Beach
Definitely not miserable in nature. Voted best beach in Australia 2022 by Tourism Australia and for good reason! Turquoise water - with wonderful snorkelling off the boulder, white squeaky sand, an epic granite backdrop AND this beach is protected from the southerly winds! You can thank us in the comments ;) Enjoy this slice of paradise.
🌅 Hike the Castle Rock Granite Skywalk
Enjoy hiking, incredible views and an epic spot to watch the sunset? This one’s for you. 2km walk up through the forest, it’s steep in parts so will take you approx 2 hours… At the top you’ll need to pull yourself up (using handles) and climb through a relatively skinny staircase) to reach the top. It’s worth it! Take a picnic to enjoy on the granite boulders near the top, protected from the wind.
JOIN US FOR PART 2!
This is only part 1! Join us next week as we explore the more cultural side of Albany. We step back in time at the National Anzac Centre - this blew us away, left us totally humbled. This is easily the best ‘museum’ we’ve ever been to in any country, ever. Even if you don’t enjoy museum-type-activities I PROMISE YOU you’ll get a lot out of this one. Plus we find a delicious fish & chip shop and catch the sunset back on the beach at camp. This one’s a goodie that’ll have you in tears in the middle and back to laughing at the end.
ENJOY!

Isn’t it!! It blew us away (and the wind did too 😆). I’d love to watch a video on the making of the walkway, it would have been an incredible feat of engineering and machinery.

Well done Soph on your editing👍. Love the time you guys obviously put in with sequencing all the music, Go/Pro/Camera and drone footage to tell a good narrative.’ The depiction of Castle Rock was excellent. Great story telling. Shrimpy 🦐😘 The ManInThatBlackVan
