That is indeed a grand spectacle. They normally show a short clip on the news here, of the first new year celebrations. This includes Nee Zealand and Australia. I believe that they said that the fireworks in Sydney is the biggest in the world.

Another great vid mate and some nice shots of Waratah, I used to crew here and did NYE twice. What a navigational nightmare it is in a 120 year old steam ship. Worth it though!

Wow, I’ve always wanted to visit Australia. Maybe I’ll have to come for New Year’s on Sydney Harbor some year. Paul, I have seen some of your videos a year or so ago, but never subscribe for some reason. I have found your channel again and subscribed this time. I really enjoy your videos and hope to start camp cruising soon. We have a trailer sailing club where I live that does raids.

Happy New Year Paul! You definitely got the best view! I presume this is a combination of 9pm and midnight? You got some great angles. Not sure I would want to be in a much smaller boat - it looks like coordinated chaos!

Hi Simon, yes a combination of both...there was no bridge waterfall in the 9pm one. There were a lot of police / Maritime boats trying to keep control...generally pretty good. The busiest night on the harbour, not sure I would go in a smaller boat either, cheers Paul

Happy new year Paul, maybe this year I’ll come across you bows in my motorised green machine . May have asked before, however am keen on moving to a trailer sailer, alas only experience long time ago was on a Howie cat, so any recommendations for a beginner ? Not to many ropes, but 2 sails and a cabin preferred. Cheers Frank from Sydney

  • @SailingKateLouise

Hi Frank, well where do I start. An Investigator 563 was my first trailer sailer ( fibreglass) built in the seventies, check out Clive and Jenny video kzread.info/dash/bejne/f6Z-y9qqqpXInKg.html you can find them for between 5 -7K. Many Hartley 16's out there (timber), less room in cabin because of the centre board case...they are still raced regularly, any where from 2- 8K but many built also in the seventies and being timber, rot of the transom can be a problem....depends how much work you want. Compass Careels (fibreglass) many around also and still raced today. Botterill explorers are out there ( fibreglass) good little trailer sailers and quite fast. All these boats are normally found at the lower end of the market and were built in the heyday of trailer sailing in the seventies and eighties so quite a few around. But you can spend up to 75K for a nice new Cygnet 20. There are many other designs out there (gumtree, yachthub) but the important thing is to check out the trailer,. A new trailer can be up to 6K. I hope this helps, cheers Paul
