Small note: hall effect sticks aren't "new". The Dreamcast and Saturn controllers used them. Since stick drift is becoming more prominent though the return of their use is just more desirable and therefore marketable.

Besides, it's not like you don't have either your phone or a PC (and yes, the vid neglected to mention it, but the software is for your PC, too) at hand in almost every place you'd use a controller in. The accuracy and clarity of the software is a definite win for 8bitdo here for me.
Love my 8bitdo controllers own the sn30 pro the pro 2 and now the ultimate. The hall effects sensors inside this definitely made it a easy purchase with my joycons I can fix it but for the sn30 pro and pro 2 may find issues like with my ps5 controllers (really need a good hot air station to make analog stick swaps easier)
Been using 8bitdo ultimate for a month, the experience has been fantastic, especially with the charging dock and the 2.4G / BT switch on the back. Smooth switching between my switch and PC has been a deal breaker for me.

As someone who owns both controllers and deeply regrets buying KK2 Pro before 8bitdo Ultimate Bluetooth, I can say that even if KK2 Pro has one or another advantages, the 8bitdo one is better in literally everything that actually matters: -MUCH lower input lag, this is a fact and is already proven through some videos on KZread and posts on reddit, of couse I myself immediately noticed it when I switched from my Dualsense to KK2 Pro, it has an absurd VERY low polling rate. -Better shoulder and trigger buttons, seriously, A minority of people would prefer the KK2 Pro design choice. -Charging dock, that's it, I don't even have to explain how amazing the 8bitdo Ultimate dock is. -Tons of customizations options via software that are, in fact, SO MUCH better than KK2 Pro alternative, having to remember every single button combination is such a pain and honestly, such a non sense design. freaking FINALLY SOMEONE IS GIVING JUSTICE TO THE GULIKIT CONTROLLER! I couldn't even try to explain how unfair I felt that people are praising the 8bitdo controller without even mentioning the King Kong Pro 2. Something that you missed that may be important is that King Kong Pro 2 does NOT use the traditional rubber membranes in the Face buttons and the shoulder buttons. I have gone through 2 8bitdo controllers where the rubber membranes got torn, making the buttons stick a lot, and ~~replacements are not on sale.~~ (Edit: They're available now in their official website . Thanks to Pars that commented on this) King Kong pro have weird keyboard-switch-looking parts that are easily replaced and are not prone to tearing! making them last more for people like me who press buttons a little too hard!

And people should know: the 8bitdo controller literally uses HAL effect analog sticks made by Gulikit. Also, Gulikit is working on a handheld analog stick that works with HAL effect...so that could potentially mean HAL effect joy-cons in the future. With that said I do love the 8bitdo Ultimate. The docking station and the fact that if you plug the docking station into the console it will just work over 2.4ghz. I have multiple Switch consoles in the house and the fact it just works with whatever Switch is sitting inside the dock (without needing to mess with pairing) is very nice.

Hey Kevin, is the 8bitdo Controller more like the xbox controller than the switch pro controller? Im playing Rocket League on PC and the Switch Controller is not it. The Analogue Sticks are too sensitive to be able to do precise movements.

Its worth pointing out that for use outside of switches, the 8bitdo is in a different league to the kingkong because it has 2.4ghz connectivity as well as bluetooth. Bluetooth has noticeable lag compared to 2.4ghz, and there is no getting around it. Fine if you are just using the switch, and a 2.4ghz connection isn't an option but there are large user bases that also play on PC that will be looking at these.

Awesome review and comparison! Thank you 👏
I just bought a new controller and had this video recommended. I was also trying to decide between the KingKong Pro 2 and the Ultimate. It was a tough call because they were both really, really good in their own ways. But yes, the buttons on the back and that really nice charging stand made me pull the trigger (pun intended) on the Ultimate. I think the KingKong Pro 2 would have been more comfortable for me, but if the Xbox controller is my 9.5, the Switch Pro is a 9.0, and this might be an 8.9. It's a bit heavier than the Switch Pro. Also, I love how removing the Ultimate from the stand will turn it on, and then it turns off when put back onto the stand. Just really nice little features. Using triggers on the Switch is a bit weird since most of the time it's expecting a button, so I might remap the back buttons to the triggers maybe. Really the biggest disappointment for the Ultimate for me is on the PC side: it only allows you to remap the buttons to another button on the controller rather than a full keyboard remapping. I have a key I otherwise don't use just for push-to-talk in Discord. Having a back button mapped to that would be really, really nice.
@qwormuli77
Жыл бұрын
You can remap that in most emulators or Steam separately. It's not as ideal, as it needs one extra step, but it's easily doable. And if all else fails, almost any mapping software (AutoHotkey etc.) can answer that need.

The controller linked in the description for 8bitdo does not have hall effect listed in its specs
One thing to note is that multiple people has had issues with build quality with the gulikit so for long term I think the 8bitdo is better (8bitdo also easier to pair)
The Gulikit triggers use hall effect mechanics similar to the analog sticks, which is why they feel the way they do.

I have used every iteration of Xbox controllers since 360 and now the Gulikit. The kingKong pro 2 has the newest Xbox controller grip, hand feel and layouts, but noticably better ABXY and smoother triggers. The shoulder buttons are on par with the series x/s iteration which is an improvement from the original Xbox one controller. If you want to use it on a PC wirelessly, it's still a good contender. Gulikit had released a rather extensive list of firmware updates since the release which has fixed a lot of issues people have been having. If you still have your KK2, it's worth looking into updating it

Got my King Kong yesterday and after about an hour of use I decided I had to return it. All of the material feels great, all of the buttons and sticks and everything feel great on their own, I had no problem getting any of the features to work on my Switch. The ONLY problem I have with it is completely a personal one. I've never thought of my hands as being particularly big or small, but the King Kong feels like it was ergonomically designed for people with BIG hands (I guess that would make sense, given its name). When I hold a controller, the most natural positioning is for my thumbs to use the face buttons and joysticks, my index finger to use the shoulders and triggers, my middle finger to be open and used as support for the controller, and my ring and pinkie finger to curl around the grip. Using this positioning it feels like I REALLY have to strain my hand to hit the R button specifically without shifting the whole controller every time. Alternatively, a slightly different positioning I tried had me forced to click the R button with the second joint of my finger rather than the tip or even the 3rd joint right before the tip. The reason this is a problem for me for the R button specifically is because the left analog stick is higher up and therefore closer to the L button, while the d-pad doesn't stick out as far from the controller. It's a shame, I really like everything else about the controller, but that one thing makes it just not comfortable, and that's the most important thing in my opinion.

I have the the switch light and play with blue tooth headphones and my king kong pro 2, never an issue.
I have both of these and have used them pretty extensively. I have more experience with the Gulikit because I've had it for much longer but I've got probably 100 hours on the 8bitdo. Just wanted to touch on one thing because I think Kevin covered pretty much everything else and that is the "wake from sleep" functions both controllers have. The 8bitdo has some serious issues with waking the console from sleep for me. It almost never works and it really pisses me off, and entire forum threads full of people have the same problem. The Gulikit works every time although it took awhile to remember to turn it on or put it in the right input at the top (I use it on my PC sometimes). Also, and this might just be a fault on my unit, but the 8bitdo often displays a false battery reading to my Switch. When I've left it on charge overnight it will show as being mostly empty from the night before and sometimes takes awhile to display the correct charge. Doesn't actually interfere with operation but is a little annoying.

I'm inclined to say the Gulikit simply because I like the very clicky, tactile BAXY buttons, but I think the 8BitDo has better shoulders and when a few frames per second are the difference between a successful block of getting hit that might make a difference.

@@anouaressanoussi I never use a controller for FPS, and if you're playing competitively you shouldn't either. Also, if you're playing on Xbox, neither of these controllers support that platform.

For me it’s the opposite and every time I press the middle button of my 8bitdo controller, it turns on my switch right away. Also for the battery life that show on the screen of my switch, it’s very accurate from my experience of use.
I'm completely alienated from the gulikit praise. Both my controllers have noticeable input lag on switch and on pc both via bluetooth and gulikit's own 2.4Ghz dongle, one controller even got bricked when I tried to update the firmware hoping that would help. I can't jump from edges on platformers as I always miss the jumps due to the delay. on 1st party and 8bitdo controller, perfect every time. The 8bitdo is one of those almost perfect controllers, and my current favorite for playing on PC and switch

I don't even think the gilikit "2.4ghz" dongle is 2.4 in the way most people refer to it. It says "EDR 2.4" which doesn't really mean much. Bluetooth is 2.4ghz and Extended Data Rate (EDR) is a protocol of Bluetooth, so I think gilikit is deceptively marketing their Bluetooth dongle so people believe it's a proprietary 2.4 dongle, but it's still just using Bluetooth leading to much more latency than an actual proprietary 2.4ghz solution like the dongle included with the 8bitdo ultimates
Because of the fact that sticks have to be wiggled back and forth they can eventually become loose and that will lead to drift regardless of hall effect sensors were not. The only way to truly eliminate drift is to put trackpads on the controller. The only thing that happens to them is that over time the coating on the top starts to wear out making them smoother.

That's fair but honestly you could replace that part more easily than you could the actual sensor.
When GuliKit makes a verison of the KingKong 2 with back paddles ill be buying it immediately
Do anyone buy the ultimate to play smash ultimate. I’m on my fourth Nintendo pro controller. The three controllers before all winded up with drift. I want a controller to replace this for competitive smash
What should I get? New joycons or the 8bitdo?
wich has the best battery?
Do they both wake up your switch?
Kingkong 2 pro also has hall sensing in the triggers.
Does anyone know if both these controllers have the Wake up function on them?

I have the 8bitdo Ultimate Bluetooth and I can say that it has the wake up function for Switch, you just have to give it a little shake after turn it on (maybe they work like that so you need to activate the motion sensor so it avoid waking up the Nintendo Switch every single time you take the controller off the dock hahahaha)
Really great review by my fav KZread video game reviewer. Both controllers look great hard decision. 🎮🎧👍🏼
Does the 8bitdo pair to iPad?
For those worrying about sticky buttons on the kk pro, they sell replacements for them and switches. No trigger or joystick issues.

You can also just pull the sides of the switches It won't feel the same but it fixes the sticky problem

After a few months my GK KK2P's trigger paint started to fade/wear off, I removed the paint with isopropyl alcohol and a cloth rag, awesome controller anyways still love it and use it on my Switch and PC.

Bro you need to do a video about the 4k gamer pro switch dongle upscaler.
the Guilikit King Kong is great! But you just can't go wrong with 8BitDo's Ultimate...imo. I used both and only returned one. The King Kong controller was alright, but as a Godzilla fan, I had to go with 8BitDo lol

Does 8bitdo have analog triggers for racing games?
You didn't mention that the 8bitdo Ultimate Software is available for Windows as well.
I've never had drift on any pro controller, but these look dope
