Just watched this about a dozen times while attaching my binding to my third quilt. Melanie taught me to quilt. I'll never, never forget her. I'll think about her every single time I'm making a quilt. She was such a gift to the world and she keeps on giving and living on in these videos. Thank you to her husband and family for keeping her channel up. I don't know what I'd do without her videos! RIP sweet Melanie!!

@@emberlegacy3410 I've done a lot of hand sewing and totally could bind that way. However, I like the way the machine binding looks and I think it will hold up better over time. My first binding using this 2 part video came out PERFECTLY! I highly recommend machine binding! Oh, and I actually enjoy doing it. 😀 Thanks, Melanie!!! ❤

I am new on here and can only understand how Melanie says how to do it. I just read about Melanie. I am so sorry. She was a great instructor. ♥️😪
Robert, thank you so much for keeping Melanie’s channel going on YT. Her quilting tutorials, this one in particular, are so helpful to this beginner quilter. I get discouraged and I hear her saying just keeping moving forward which, ironically, is something I’ve always told my kids. Thank you again for sharing her with us. She was so special. ❤️

I miss this beautiful person so much. So glad her family has decided to keep her vids up so all of us can still learn from her hard work and love of sewing. Thank you! 💕
Every time I do a binding I come back to Melanie’s videos. I am so very grateful that Melanie’s channel remains on YT.
I cannot thank you enough. I’m 55 and never sewn in my life. I was so inspired, I went out, bought a sewing machine and with your videos I’ve learnt to sew bags and now I just finished a small quilted lap throw. It’s not perfect but goss I’m proud of myself. Thank you again!! 💓
Thank you so much to Melanie’s family for keeping her channel up. I always use this for binding. She is a gift. RIP sweet lady!

Her channel will keep her alive in this world
I came back today to reference Melanie's wisdom and artistry of binding. I found my love of sewing and quilting during the pandemic with Melanie and now I am finally getting to top quilt and bind my first quilt I started with her (I got a bit sidetracked during COVID). How I wish she was still here to know how much she inspired me then and still does to this day. I know she's up there looking down on us and hope she knows how much she has passed down her passion and knowledge to all of us. To her husband and family, thank you for keeping her channel open for us to reference and continue learning and growing in our skill. Finishing this 2nd part of the video I have tears in my eyes for the loss of a great mentor, but a renewed passion for quilting.
Whenever I think about doing patchwork quilting I think of Melanie, and always come back to her videos for guidance. I've only just read that she passed away and I can't believe it. Thank you for everything you shared with us RIP 🙏💗
I have been watching Melanie's videos for the past several months learning how to quilt and just recently found out she passed away. I was speechless. I then went and watched your documentary of her life and Cancer journey. What a legacy she has left! This lady has and keeps on touching peoples lives. Melanie will continue to live on as long as her instructional videos are available to watch. Her smile was beautiful and her attitude so joyful and cheery. Please continue to keep her channel up and going. Even in death, she has taught me so much! Rest in Peace and in the arms of Jesus sweet lady!

Thank you Melanie! I am 63 years old and finally decided to try quilting. Your four part series and these two videos have been my bible. I credit you for my getting through my first and second quilts. You're so upbeat and your instructions are so clear, it's a pleasure to learn from you.
It's thanks to you that I've just finished my first quilt. I started my quilting journey 2 years with you and you taught me so much. I never got around to finishing the quilt until tonight. You were one amazing, talented and beautiful lady. Your light shone. Thank you for sharing your light with us. Rest easy with the angels sweet Melanie ❤❤❤
Some people just have the gift and you really have it. I watched all your videos of the beginner quilting and the machine binding. I have never had the patience to do quilting but your videos are very in-depth that I am going to try it. Thanks so much for your time and patience. KUDOS!
The best teacher, I followed your steps one by one and my quilt ITS BEAUTIFUL! Thank you
I’m 74 on Sunday and have taken up quilting in the last 8 years. I’m always learning new things. Thanks!
I just completed my first quilt! Thank you Melanie for the beginner's quilting series. You have been such a blessing and I dedicate this quilt to you in your memory. ❤
I just began watching Melanie’s quilting videos last week and I am amazed at what a great teacher she is. I am so sad to hear of her passing! I will continue to watch her videos over and over as I learn from her. Thank you to her husband for keeping her Chanel going. Even though she isn’t here any more she continues to teach me and others. What a beautiful and spirited woman she was! Rest in Peace Melanie 🥰
Thanks you Melanie I can successfully use my machine to put binding on my quilts!!! I just watched again to be sure I've got it down for my 2nd quilt that I'll be machine binding. Love her videos. Thank you for keeping them available.
I'm so happy that I am able to continue to view Melanie's KZread tutorials. Her channel was the first one I ever subscribed to. I guess heaven needed another angel but I sure miss her. She had a way of making her subscriber's feel like they were her friends.
Thanks for continuing to be with me through my quilting journey. I can’t say I didn’t shed a tear or two knowing that you aren’t here anymore…. You have helped me so much. 😢
Thank you again and again for helping me with this tutorial on how to end my binding. I am forever grateful. You were very special. You continue to help me in my quilting journey.
You are an outstanding teacher. I’m so glad I found your channel in the first couple of days when I decided to research quilting. A few days later I’ve made my first sample quilt, WITH binding. Thanks for sharing your knowledge 🙏 🙏
I am binding my first quilt and found this tutorial to be very helpful and even calming(cuz I am a bit nervous!) I am so grateful to Melanie. What a beautiful soul.
I have watched many videos on binding. This is the first one that helped me make a perfect join of both ends. I never could understand it before! Thank you.
Thank you for keeping these tutorials going. I just happened to see Melanie’s quilting for beginners a few months ago. I was half way through my first quilt when I realised she had passed away. I am so grateful to her and her expert tuition which has enabled me to finish my first quilt for my grandson. I now feel confident enough to make more and hope that you keep these tutorials going . What a tribute to an amazing young woman. ❤️
Melanie..this is fantastic! I have only made one quilt in my life. Decided to try another...15 yrs later. Your videos are my total teacher. Thank you so much. I had not the vaguest idea how to machine the binding on the quilt. You made it so easy!!
I wanted to thank you so much for your how to make a quilt lessons. My granddaughter has become an EMT/Firefighter. She spends 24 hour shifts at the station which includes sleeping time. She asked me if I’d make her a special quilt for her to sleep with at the station. I couldn’t have been more honored. However I’ve only made a baby’s quilt, 40 years ago and was really anxious about attempting this Twin XL quilt. Hallelujah I found your videos. I just can’t thank you enough for holding my hand and walking me through this project of love. Your teaching manner is excellent, not too fast or slow, easy to follow along and I don’t feel like an idiot! So thank you, thank you, Thank You!!! Ronda M.
Thank you so much for keeping Melanie’s videos up. I have learned so much from your beautiful wife. Watching the videos over and over still inspires me. Miss her 🤗💜🤗
I started quilting last year from watching your videos and now am on my 5th quilt. I came back to re-watch and learned some new tricks that I missed before - some of the more nuanced tips, I now understand better and will adjust my quilting. Thanks so much - I love watching your videos. You always have such pretty quilts and have an awesome teaching manner!!
Me too. Melanie taught me to quilt during the pandemic and I needed a refresher on how to machine bind since I usually do it by hand. I am so very thankful for these videos and I too think of Melanie every time I'm quilting. She seemed like such a sweetheart. She is missed terribly.
You have the best tutorial for binding. All the details you give make it easy to get a perfect binding ever time. Thank you so much!
Melanie, you did, and continue to add good to the world. Thank you for teaching and sharing your gifts. 💕
I come back to this video every single time I bind a quilt. Melanie is the reason I ever had the confidence to start quilting. Rip sweet beautiful soul. I think about you often. ❤️
What a great job you do to explain no fussing just good good demonstrations thank you so much, my first quilt will look great THANK YOU
I have just come back to sewing after over 30 years of kids and work. It’s so wonderful to have an angel like Melanie on hand at all times to help me with the best techniques and tips. Profoundest condolences to her family for the loss of this shining spirit from the Earth but her soul lives on through these beautiful clips sharing her skills, enthusiasm and knowledge. Eternal thanks 🙏🏽❤️🌺💖
I just did a flawless job!!! By far the BEST tutorial out there on this technique!!!!! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!!!!
Best explanation of how to bias-join the trailing ends of the binding that I've ever seen -- saved me lots of time and confusion. Thank you!
I cannot thank you enough! You have inspired me! I am 65 and bought my first sewing machine this week. I can’t wait to start some projects! The last time I sewed was in Home Ec Class in high school many moons ago. I have watched all your sewing and quilting videos, they are so easy to follow even for an old lady beginner like me!! Thank you sooo much for sharing your knowledge!!
Thank you for this video. It is timely because I have to machine sew a binding on a queen and king size quilt. I’ve only ever hand-stitched. If I hand stitch, they will never get finished. And, one is a gift. So, this video came at the perfect time! I love your videos. Sometimes, I think they are too basic for me but I always watch and learn something. You were the one who taught me how to crochet, so no complaints on the basics. You always seem to have what I need.
Here I am again relying on Melanie’s video to refresh my memory! Miss her videos so much.
I just LOVE you!!! I just discovered you and so very happy I did. I was looking for a video on not just attaching the binding but to see if there is a way to also machine sew the other side of it instead of by hand and here you are with the most precise fantastic video. You have no idea how you have helped me my dear. I am in my early 70's and have been making quilts for 20 years, but have this past year developed issues with my fingers and hands and cannot hand sew the binding to the back anymore. You truly are a Godsend for me and I think others as well. I have of course subscribed and am anxious to watch your other videos too. We are never too old to learn new things. And time tends to alter how we have to do things too. I am just so excited and cannot wait to try this. God Bless young lady and thanks so much for that you do and share. Claudia
Loved watching you again today. The makers miss your kind and lovely spirit. ❤❤❤
Thank you Melanie. Today I made my first bind, just by following your helpfull instructions. Was not easy, but not impossible. Thank you and God bless you.
I am thrilled that you saved me from binding hell! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!! The method of using the guide is just the best. This is now my "go to" video for binding. I am such a happy camper.
I’m 78 years old and trying to help my wife bind a quilt for our great granddaughter. The way you taught to do the corners and how to piece the two ends together was amazing. I think now I can do it! I’m a knife maker and guitar maker so this is all Greek to me. Thanks for this wonderful video. I subscribed and gave you a thumbs ups.
I've been binding quilts for years and have watched lots of YT videos on binding methods. Yours is the best. The only thing I would add is that the 2.5" cutting distance only works when you use 2.5" binding strips. I generally increase that distance a tiny bit more just to be sure my binding is snug. Also it can save you time if, after you've pinned that diagonal join, you gently unfold it to be sure you have everything going the right way before stitching. Great job, thanks.
Thank you so much Melanie! I couldn't not have finished my first quilt without your videos. I was worried about binding but followed your instructions and it turned out perfect. You are a very gifted teacher - which is a rare gift.
Excellent instruction. My first quilted item ever. I loved the binding tips. Super tutor!
Thank you again!!!! I watch this video every single time I do a binding! You are such a good teacher!
I miss her! She taught me so much! Such a sweet and godly spirit.
Miss you Melanie.Such a beautiful wonderful person.A fantastic teacher.Gone too soon.My heart is broken for you and your family.Thankyou for your wisdom.I have made quilts under your guidance and these keep your memory alive.Anne -Marie in Ireland🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️
Loved her teaching..I made my first quilt with her…she is so missed…😢😢❤❤
Fabulous! I've just watched 6 of your tutorials in a row, I feel like I've been to quilting school! I have a new machine and can't wait to get started. Having just made over 200 facemarks and with leftover fabric I'm ready for something new, Thank you so much for your precise instructions and no nonsense approach, and attention to detail xxx

This is genius to me. I decided a while ago that machine binding made more sense than hand binding for a few different reasons. A love this and just did a small table topper to try it out. Love it! Thank you.
Thanks so much! I’ve struggled with machine binding . I did not know what and edge foot was until I watch your tutorial and lo and behold, my machine had come with one. I just didn’t know what it was. Your tutorial was a game changer for mr and I just had the best experience to date binding a quilt. Game changer!
Thanks Melanie. I just finished a quilt for my friends birthday. It’s the largest one I’ve made so far. Your teaching on sewing on the binding is so great. I love watching your videos. You actually taught me how to quilt. You are awesome. Bobbi
I've nearly finished my first quilt thanks to your tutorials. Thanks so much, you have helped build my confidence in sewing and being creative. Thanks
Thank you so much for your Beginning quilting video. It was really helpful. I am going to make a baby quilt for a friend. Have some sewing experience, but has been awhile. Will try to follow more of your video's once I have the hang of making this first quilt.
Finished my very first quilt today!! Thank you so much for your incredibly helpful tutorials. I'm very new to sewing and wanted to try my hand at quilting -- I love it!! Can't wait to make another.
Great tutorial, thanks for taking to time to make this video. I made a quilt and all I have left is to bind it. I just kept putting it off. Now I feel inspired to finish. Thanks so much🥰
Thank you for your very clear precise video, it was most helpful. I have never quilted before and was so grateful for your help and expertise.😊
Melanie is responsible for me being able to machine bind. For me, that seems more secure than me hand stitching the binding - and it is certainly faster. With Melanie's video, my machine binds have come out very nicely. Plus, I don't enjoy hand sewing binding! And I quilt for joy and relaxation!! Thank you Melanie in Heaven! You're missed by all who you've helped and who love you.
Melanie, thank you for this video. I just finished binding my quilt using your technique, and the binding looks really nice. I was stopping and starting the video to make sure I was following your instructions. Thanks again!
Found your channel, with this video. Thanks so much for posting. Your instructions were great. I never was able to do machine binding till now.
Melanie’s videos taught me to quilt 2 years ago. I still refer to her videos whenever I get stuck on something. Her legacy will always live on!

You are so good. I’ve been quilting for years and never heard of a stiletto. I love it. Just ordered it from Amazon. Thank you!
This is how I’m doing my binding from now on! Looks very nice and you don’t have to worry about it coming undone.
Alright... as promised here is part 2! All my best tips and tricks in this video - It's a little longer than normal but SUPER detailed. I hope you enjoy! Please give it a thumbs up!

Thank you for your 2 videos on binding! I’ve been quilting for a year and have had so many mishaps with binding. FINALLY, with your detailed instructions, I can’t wait to try it on my QAYG placemats!
Oh my, I’ve watched so many bonding videos now. Yours has been the clearest, most detailed and I love that you talk about options. Thank you!!
Yes!! I have to echo some previous comments. I'm working on my first ever quilting project and I've watched a few videos on binding and this is the best! You nailed it, thank you!!
Silly me! I should of come her first to learn binding. Miss you Melanie Ham! You are a blessing ❤❤❤
Thanks for 1 and 2 parts. Very helpful. I hate doing binding and this will make it go so much faster.
Thank you for this! I was doing it back to front, stitching my binding to the right side, folding it back and then hoping to catch the edge by stitching in the ditch from the right side. It works but doesn’t look as neat as this method, so thank you for a fresh way of looking at it!
Nicely done. I love that you give options and demonstrate it to. The close-ups of the corner were very helpful. You have a sweet disposition and are obviously trying to help us do the best job we can. Keep it up Melanie.
As a brand new quilter (just purchased my supplies after watching your beginners quilt series) you make it look so easy! Can't wait to start.
OMG!!! I finally machine sewed a binding on successfully! Thanks for an Amazing tutorial! I practiced on a baby quilt and now off to my full size quilt! Yay for Melanie!
I love your explanation in this video. Thanks for doing this tutorial. I bound a quilt this morning, and it turned out beautiful.
I usually do my binding the opposite way, attaching to the front first and then folding over to the back. Yours looks so much nicer and I am excited to try it your way! Thank you for the great 2 part tutorial!
Wow. I have learned a lot from you. I am working on my first quilt and after checking different videos on binding, this is how I want to I do it. now. You definitely are the best quilting teacher out there by far. Thank you.
Well done!!! I'm actually excited to try a quilt now with true binding even though I do love self-binding for baby blankets....game changer here!!! Love all your videos, you are my #1 go-to for anyone I know learning to sew or crochet.
Thank you for your tutorials. You have taken the fears and anxiety of sewing away. I love the way you explain the ways to do things and the wrong way. I know how to sew basic things but wanted to know more. Your videos are amazing and I appreciate you sharing your knowledge. Thank you for keeping it simple.
Best tutorial on those mitered corners I have ever watched!🤗🌸
I love how you are so clear step by step, I already have my material for my next 2 quilts! Gonna follow your instructions again and I know the 3 or 4th one is going to be gorgeous. I am brand new to the sewing machine so I am over the moon!!!!!!!!!
I just love your videos! I have been quilting for some time but always learn something new from you. ❤️. I just finished my first grandchild’s quilt and used your way to join the binding - it worked perfectly! I also used my joiner foot (never even knew what it was called) to finish the binding and it also was successful. Thank you for your time and talents. You are my “go to” source when I need to the best way to do something. 🥰
Melanie! This was the clearest explanation, with the clearest pics I have ever seen. I haven't had too much of an issue but can clearly see how the edge-joining foot is a winner here! Thanks for your time, you should be proud. I think it's the neatest, cleanest I have ever seen!
I've just discovered Melanie's videos and just wow. She's so amazing in these videos. She was truly a gift. I'm looking forward to watching more of her videos.
My machine binding was awful until I saw these videos! It turned-out so perfect and I got to use my edge foot I didn’t know I had. 🎉Thanks so much, Melanie!
I really appreciate people using their skills and talents to teach the rest of us. This helped to dissipate all of my fears in binding (especially for the corners). You have such a sweet spirit and are an awesome teacher. This is truly a calling, to help the rest of us (especially us newbies) who don't have the time to sit thru physical classes. Well done and thank you. You have helped me greatly on my journey to adding quilter to the list of my abilities.
Thank you, Melanie for a brilliant, easy to follow tutorial! I feel confident now to go ahead and bind my first large quilt. I’m sure I’ll be keeping up to date with your other/further tutorials! X
This helped so much. The careful details you include make binding (especially the corners and joining) so clear. Thank you.
Melanie you are an awesome instructor, you take your time to show what you are doing which is extremely helpful. thank you.
Your instruction on binding is the BEST I have ever watched! You have explained each step SO clearly! Thanks so much😊
Melanie - Thanks so much for this excellent tutorial! One suggestion: when you are describing how to join the ends of the binding together, I think what you really want to say is to overlap the ends by "the width of the material". In your demo this happens to be 2-1/2", but if the viewer is using material of a different width, they could get in a jam if they overlap by 2-1/2" rather than by their particular material width. I am restoring a very old quilt, which was originally bound by folding the backing over the top, so I'm using a narrow binding to make it look reasonably close to the original.
Thank you for supporting free education and through that inspiring people to take your paid classes. That is a fantastic way to do this. Your videos have been extremely helpful for me getting started and I find myself wanting to learn more quilting techniques.
Thank you so much Melanie.I’ve just commenced quilting and am so inspired by this channel having checked others too. I used batik paintings that I purchased in Kenya many years ago and the quilt is much admired by family and friends. Once again thank you dear Melanie and family.
The best tutorial I’ve seen! Finally I finished a quilt and feel 100% proud of the binding. Thank you!
What a great tutorial! I struggle SO much with binding. I have the same machine you do so I also have that edge foot and had no idea that's how you use it!! One of the hardest things about binding is that corner and seeing you having the same issues I've had just tells me that I will eventually get it and it's normal to struggle with it! Thank you so much for this video! I'm actually at the binding stage on a quilt so the information is timely as well.
Your videos are GOLD! I learned so much from watching them. I have the DX7 also. I love it, and I used the edge foot to bind my first quilt today. It was a game-changer!
Thanks ever so much for your tutorials. I've just finished my first small quilt for a dolls pram and I'm really pleased with it! Your instructions are really great and clear.
This is a great video - I'm now feeling confident in binding my first large quilt.
