Just watched this about a dozen times while attaching my binding to my third quilt. Melanie taught me to quilt. I'll never, never forget her. I'll think about her every single time I'm making a quilt. She was such a gift to the world and she keeps on giving and living on in these videos. Thank you to her husband and family for keeping her channel up. I don't know what I'd do without her videos! RIP sweet Melanie!!

@@emberlegacy3410 I've done a lot of hand sewing and totally could bind that way. However, I like the way the machine binding looks and I think it will hold up better over time. My first binding using this 2 part video came out PERFECTLY! I highly recommend machine binding! Oh, and I actually enjoy doing it. 😀 Thanks, Melanie!!! ❤

Robert, thank you so much for keeping Melanie’s channel going on YT. Her quilting tutorials, this one in particular, are so helpful to this beginner quilter. I came back today to reference Melanie's wisdom and artistry of binding. I found my love of sewing and quilting during the pandemic with Melanie and now I am finally getting to top quilt and bind my first quilt I started with her (I got a bit sidetracked during COVID). How I wish she was still here to know how much she inspired me then and still does to this day. I know she's up there looking down on us and hope she knows how much she has passed down her passion and knowledge to all of us. To her husband and family, thank you for keeping her channel open for us to reference and continue learning and growing in our skill. Finishing this 2nd part of the video I have tears in my eyes for the loss of a great mentor, but a renewed passion for quilting.

I wanted to thank you so much for your how to make a quilt lessons. My granddaughter has become an EMT/Firefighter. She spends 24 hour shifts at the station which includes sleeping time. She asked me if I’d make her a special quilt for her to sleep with at the station. I couldn’t have been more honored. However I’ve only made a baby’s quilt, 40 years ago and was really anxious about attempting this Twin XL quilt. Hallelujah I found your videos. I just can’t thank you enough for holding my hand and walking me through this project of love. Your teaching manner is excellent, not too fast or slow, easy to follow along and I don’t feel like an idiot! So thank you, thank you, Thank You!!! Ronda M.

Thank you for this video. It is timely because I have to machine sew a binding on a queen and king size quilt. I’ve only ever hand-stitched. If I hand stitch, they will never get finished. And, one is a gift. So, this video came at the perfect time! I love your videos. Sometimes, I think they are too basic for me but I always watch and learn something. You were the one who taught me how to crochet, so no complaints on the basics. You always seem to have what I need.

I just LOVE you!!! I just discovered you and so very happy I did. I was looking for a video on not just attaching the binding but to see if there is a way to also machine sew the other side of it instead of by hand and here you are with the most precise fantastic video. You have no idea how you have helped me my dear. I am in my early 70's and have been making quilts for 20 years, but have this past year developed issues with my fingers and hands and cannot hand sew the binding to the back anymore. You truly are a Godsend for me and I think others as well. I have of course subscribed and am anxious to watch your other videos too. We are never too old to learn new things. And time tends to alter how we have to do things too. I am just so excited and cannot wait to try this. God Bless young lady and thanks so much for that you do and share. Claudia

I've been binding quilts for years and have watched lots of YT videos on binding methods. Yours is the best. The only thing I would add is that the 2.5" cutting distance only works when you use 2.5" binding strips. I generally increase that distance a tiny bit more just to be sure my binding is snug. Also it can save you time if, after you've pinned that diagonal join, you gently unfold it to be sure you have everything going the right way before stitching. Great job, thanks.

Thank you for this! I was doing it back to front, stitching my binding to the right side, folding it back and then hoping to catch the edge by stitching in the ditch from the right side. It works but doesn’t look as neat as this method, so thank you for a fresh way of looking at it!

Nicely done. I love that you give options and demonstrate it to. The close-ups of the corner were very helpful. You have a sweet disposition and are obviously trying to help us do the best job we can. Keep it up Melanie.

I usually do my binding the opposite way, attaching to the front first and then folding over to the back. Yours looks so much nicer and I am excited to try it your way! Thank you for the great 2 part tutorial!

I just love your videos! I have been quilting for some time but always learn something new from you. ❤️. I just finished my first grandchild’s quilt and used your way to join the binding - it worked perfectly! I also used my joiner foot (never even knew what it was called) to finish the binding and it also was successful. Thank you for your time and talents. You are my “go to” source when I need to the best way to do something. 🥰

Melanie! This was the clearest explanation, with the clearest pics I have ever seen. I haven't had too much of an issue but can clearly see how the edge-joining foot is a winner here! Thanks for your time, you should be proud. I think it's the neatest, cleanest I have ever seen!

I really appreciate people using their skills and talents to teach the rest of us. This helped to dissipate all of my fears in binding (especially for the corners). You have such a sweet spirit and are an awesome teacher. This is truly a calling, to help the rest of us (especially us newbies) who don't have the time to sit thru physical classes. Well done and thank you. You have helped me greatly on my journey to adding quilter to the list of my abilities.

Melanie - Thanks so much for this excellent tutorial! One suggestion: when you are describing how to join the ends of the binding together, I think what you really want to say is to overlap the ends by "the width of the material". In your demo this happens to be 2-1/2", but if the viewer is using material of a different width, they could get in a jam if they overlap by 2-1/2" rather than by their particular material width. I am restoring a very old quilt, which was originally bound by folding the backing over the top, so I'm using a narrow binding to make it look reasonably close to the original.

What a great tutorial! I struggle SO much with binding. I have the same machine you do so I also have that edge foot and had no idea that's how you use it!! One of the hardest things about binding is that corner and seeing you having the same issues I've had just tells me that I will eventually get it and it's normal to struggle with it! Thank you so much for this video! I'm actually at the binding stage on a quilt so the information is timely as well.
