My first FPV (3 weeks ago) was the Emax Tinyhawk 3, basically the same thing. For $300, I had a full FPV experience, plus a controller to start simulating in Liftoff. 100 flight hours later, I bought my first 5" quad. I feel like I'm way ahead of the curve and very grateful that I started here. I actually just bought 2 more Tinyhawks for my best friends to convince them to go all-in too. This is the coolest hobby ever. Can't believe I didn't find out about it sooner.

@@andriivelychko5828 I did the same thing, tinyhawk II > geprc mark 5. Went digital cause I knew I'd regret if I didn't. 20 hours in a Sim before I even touched the drone, it's still crazy. Only prior experience was insurance/programmed flight with dji phantom 4 pro. It is entirely different, and so much more difficult, but also so rewarding and freaking awesome!

The acting in this video is next level. I see a shower of Emmy nominations coming! For reals tho, my neighbor bought the old TinyHawk AIO starter kit and its a great value and a great way to learn. The TinyHawk is simple, versatile, capable and about impossible to break. And the new controller is a big upgrade from the 'video game' controller they used to ship it with. This really is a top notch option for anyone looking to get into IRL FPV flying. Many beginners will struggle with the throttle control. They'll push it all the way up, the drone shoots up like a rocket, they panic and pull the throttle all the way down, the drone falls like a rock and smashes on the ground. I first started flying RC as a child with one of those IR controlled indoors toy helicopters from Air Hogs. They have a springloaded throttle to make sure it stays all the way down. My first flight was exactly what I described above. It takes time to realize that you need to slightly let off the throttle after takeoff and make very small adjustments. When it finally clicked, I instantly improved a lot.

First time flying it fpv around the house was just saw an awesome feeling I was gitty like a 5 year old at Christmas. Took it outside as fpv and I know I now have a life long addiction. 🙃 if you're on the fence get this is great, I haven't had it a full 2 weeks and just lost it (crashed right next to my house slid on pavement with a tumble and hit grass everything went blank, battery must have ejected because we lost the beeps along with the sweeps and the creeps) but anyways its so awesome I'm goin to order another one (just the drone), was hoping to upgrade the goggles but that's alright next time.

Lol at the beginning, that was me. I didn't think things through, and I built an absolute monster quad for my first. I thoroughly destroyed it on the first flight. Only salvageable component was 1 motor and prop. I even broke the FPV cam and vtx antenna. Expensive lesson learned.

I went from LOS toy quads. I worked my way up to the Dramida Vista before FPV. It was as close to what I fly now as far as a toy and you work your muscle memory and get decent stick time. The Dramida Vista can be flown in acro mode but the Wi-Fi video latency s u c k s. So, I wouldn't depend on a toy FPV quadcopter. This and what JB is talking about here was what got me flying FPV. JB is definitely the first go-to guy I'd recommend.

  • @MadDragon75

Sims work for the most part to give you a feel of the quad, but I have yet to find one that is true to life as far as battery life goes. That and you're not constantly walking to pick up your quads (it's exercise people 😉) that don't have Turtle mode. That by itself helps you not want to crash because most people don't want to walk to pick it up.

@@JPTulo Any and Every SIM on PC basically works. Ive got Uncrashed, DRL, Tryp FPV, and even the TinyWhoop Go sim works very well with it. :) my favorites are DRL amd Uncrashed. in DRL tho you can map a switch to reset your drone which is Very convenient.:)

I went with a BetaFPV Beta65s as my first little quad and absolutely regret it. I wish I would have gone this route, but I was trying to get into this for super cheap, and this video came out a few months after I bought it.

Fantastic flying and review, Joshua! 😃 But you know what? This radio... If it had a small screen, OpenTX or EdgeTX... And ELRS... It would be fantastic! Because it looks nice and seems to have a pretty good ergonomics! Anyway, stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊

Well done JB. Very entertaining. You can use the controller with a Simulator though. The USB cord that it comes with is not sufficient (no data, only power) and you need to updated the Windows driver for it to work. With the controller plugged in, with a USB cord that supports data, go to your Device Manager in Windows and under libusb-win32 devices, do a driver update on the BETTER USB HS, and then it will work with simulators.
