    This is NOT a "put down" to your video, this is a praise. Do you remember the "* * For Dummies" books. They not only told you what to do but they told you why you do it. That is what your video did. I have been watching flying videos for a few years and I just learned some thing NO one else explained. Thank You!!!

    I just ordered the cub today. I looked into it and bt the gyro and the landing assist modules. In essence, I am a beginner with very limited experience from many years ago. I like the fence the gyro can provide, the auto landing and the auto circling pause features until my skills improve. Based on these, one can learn to fly themself. As my skills improve I can go to intermediate and advanced levels as well as add flaps later on. Thanks, Rich

    One thing to mention, the push/pull prop differences between cub and scout. Probably not an issue as far as beginner flight control is concerned, but the push prop (aeroscout) survives crashes better....

  • @TOURMANBOB
    @TOURMANBOB Жыл бұрын

    Thank you Steve for helping me get back into RC flying. When I was young, all we had was balsa wood planes. Typically, it took months to build one and when you crashed it on it's first flight, it kind of discouraged you from continuing (as it did for me). However, this video helped me decide to get back into the game. These foam planes seem somewhat more repairable than the old balsa wood ones, plus this SAFE technology will ease the learning pain. I bought the Carbon Cub S2 RTF and it's a great plane. However, no matter what I do, I cannot get the DXS controller and WS2000 to coordinate correctly with Real Time Flight Controller. I seems there may be something wrong as I cannot program either the throttle or rudder...doesn't let me. Yet the controller works perfectly with the plane. So after about 15 hours of experimentation with the software, I said the hell with it and decided to get another controller for use not only with the simulator but also with other planes I plan to buy. I splurged and bought the NX8 which might be overkill but will give me programming ability for anything else I may buy in the future. Besides, compared to my three DJI drones this hobby is VERY cheap..... So I'm going to take my time and learn the NX controller as it is chock full of options, most of which at the moment mean nothing to me. But looking forward to learning this new technology. Once again thanks and hope to see you one day out on the field (I too live in Ottawa) Best wishes

  • @CAPTAINDRONE798

    @CAPTAINDRONE798

    Жыл бұрын

    The NX series of controllers are great! You can download the model of your plane direct to the controller which then means you only need to do the simple task of binding. Once you get the hang of the radio, we’ll, every plane is the same and you can copy one model to the next.

  • @TOURMANBOB

    @TOURMANBOB

    @@CAPTAINDRONE798 Yes, that has great appeal to me. Even at my age of 78, I love all this new technology and want every opportunity to learn it. I have it on my boat, my Gold Wing motorcycle and in my cars, so I willingly embrace it on these RC planes. I used to think DJI drones were expensive but when you think about the huge investment in software engineering that goes into one of these drones, they are really not expensive, as you are getting a load of technology for a reasonable price. Nothing is free and DJI drones are amazing for the money.... I am REALLY looking forward to getting out to fly but want to spend a load of time on Flight Simulator once I can get it connected to a transmitter. Great fun on a long cold winter day.... Cheers !!

    I have the carbon cub 1.5 I think it’s called, I think it’s an earlier version than that one. After not flying for a decade it was recommended to me. With the auto take off and landing it’s very easy to fly. The only thing to remember is if you’re going to use the auto landing, make sure that you take off with space behind it when you take off, as it will turn around and make a landing lining up with your takeoff point. I didn’t give it the room behind and as it was lining up it’s landing it started to come down right in line with a tree.realised too late and it crashed into the tree lol. No major damage luckily, a bit of a crushed nose and landing gear that had to be reattached.

The key to RC planes is just getting started and gaining confidence. I'm moving through the larger and more challenging planes. It's a lot cheaper than the drones we fly! Drones are more of a tool of work and the RC planes are pure fun and enjoyment. You may have to change your name from Captain Drone to Captain RC. 😎

    I learned FPV before planes. Learning LOS for planes was very difficult for me. Thankfully Spectrum has stabilization. Lmao But a whole different flight experience. Planes are more quite and peaceful. You can fly a plane anywhere, and no one will complain. And you can do 200+ MPH and no one cares. Then there is 3D flying. Its a rush! Plus, when you do crash, its just gluing some foam back together. Rarely do you replace electronics, so it ends up being much cheaper then FPV.

    Great video, thanks. Just thought I’d mention Realflight simulator has both these models within. I have the Scout and the sim version is a good representation of the real thing. You can learn to fly and if you crash it won’t cost a thing :) There are 2 versions: Realflight Evolution and Realflight trainer edition. The latter is half the cost and works just fine. Both simulators are on Steam.

    For a very first RC plane that will put a smile on your face... The AEROSCOUT 1.1 meter in the Ready To Fly kit. It flies so nice that in my area the pilots eventually put FPV cameras on them and fly them that way. Of course, only do that after you get really good and confident.

    Landing is the most difficult for sure but becomes super simple if you have open space and can grass land (just float above the ground with stability on (such as SAFE) and all is well with a soft touchdown).

I told her you where in the NCR, we never know, we might see him in Ottawa one day. 😁 I used to be try to pilot, RC helicopter, I then switch to an RC plane (no much success) and then switch to drones for couple of years before selling all of them. Because of you, we are planing to purchase a drone next spring. In the mean time, I'm trying to convince my minister of finances (my wife) to allow me to purchase a AEROSCOUT (your fault again) with skies since in NCR, there is a lot more snow than down south. Do you happen to know where to purchase skies for the AEROSCOUT? Are you aware, your first amazon link point to a HBZ Hobbyzone Sport Cub S RTF not the AEROSCOUT (RTF)?

    I did the same thing last year started with a small push prop and then decided it was time for an upgrade and got the smaller version of the aero Scout you mentioned to stay away from. Man what a piece of crud... It was ok except it wouldn't climb I brought it back to the hobby shop and explained my problem. It was like the servo maxed out and wouldn't let it climb it would just barely take off and nose dive as soon as as you tried to level off. The guy at the hobby store said he was sure he could fix it he just had to fly it first to diagnose even though I had told him. Also he insisted on doing it in his parking lot where I had tried it over grass incase something went wrong. Needless to say it was a catastrophic crash when he just assured me he could fly anything. After he crashed it he proceeded to say it should be fine and wouldn't give me a refund. Worst and last experience I've had at his store also to rub salt in the wound Hobby zone wouldn't give me a refund either. They said because he smashed it how were the supposed to know it was a design or manufacturing flaw. Even though like I said everything else worked fine. It left such a bad taste in my mouth I've only flown my old volantex ranger which went down over blackberry patch when a quick summer gale blew in. I didn't get it out for a few days with machete but some mice had eaten my wing. Sorry for the rambling complaint I just wondered why you said to stay away from the smaller one.

    "Eachine" is a re-brand label used by Banggood for products sold through their store - they could come from anywhere. Same as here - that Aeroscout is a re-branded Chinese plane fitted with a Spektrum receiver. (The Esky Eagle - It is also an excellent "beginner" plane.) So to answer your question - No, not if you mean the Volantex V761 re-branded 400mm Mini Warbirds series sold under the Eachine label. (Wrong protocol.)

    The AEROSCOUT was my first plane in the RC plane hobby. It is so incredibly easy to fly, especially when SAFE is engaged, which causes you to build confidence & take chances turning it on and off until you feel comfortable. The reason everyone picks the AEROSCOUT is because the pro is not on the nose and it has tricycle landing gear. Those are two items that will ensure a perfect landing everytime. The CARBON CUB is a high wing plane and all high wing planes are easy to fly. With the carbon cub you just have to be careful not to lose altitude in turns and to keep the nose up on landings. It is very easy to fly as well but the Aeroscout is easier. Lots of people start with the CARBON CUB and are successful. The CARBON CUB also has SAFE to make it extremely helpful for beginners especially if flying on a day with some wind.

    Oh, one last thing… if at all possible get the RTF version of either plane. But you don’t need the RTF version if you know someone in the RC Plane hobby that can help you. if you know someone that can set up a radio for you, then get yourself a Spektrum DX6 or NX6 radio and have someone set everything up, including dual rates, and then fly in low rates on a day with no wind.
