    What is the most versatile Jensen speaker in your opinion?

  • @JensenSpeakersVideos

    @JensenSpeakersVideos

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@palmmoot Hard to say... in MY personal opinion, the most versatile are the Tornado 100 the C12K2 and on a slightly sweeter side, the Raptor and the Blackbird 100. BUT this is MY view, looking from pristine clean, to pushed cleans, crunch, blues, fusion, classic rock, hard rock. If you intend "versatile within the Metal world"... then I'd probably say a mix with a Nighthawk on one side and either a Electric Lightning or a C12K2 or a Raptor on the other. But again... it really depends on amps, cabs, guitars and... taste... :)

Therefore it's more transparent when playing fast palm mutes which ist great. My fav speakers, that I've have swapped into various cabs over the years, are 4 Pyles (one blown), that I have used since 1990. I'd have to open the cabs (now Emperor and oversize Fender (clone) 2x12's) to remember the actual model number. They are dark and heavy. The Jensons remind me of them in a way, especially the Electric Lightning. As with everything, speakers are subjective, but close micing the center of the Electric Lightning sounds more like cab in a room to me. The A/B's at the end make me think a V30 and Lightning might be a great blend!, but I am favoring the Lightning here. Thanks for the vid!

    Thank you for showing alternatives to V30. It’s a great speaker but it is everyone’s go to speaker. I am working on building a few custom speakers cabs for myself and I am using your videos and a few others to decide on speaker combos for them. Thank you again for putting this info out to the world. There will definitely be some Jenson speakers in something I am making. Question for you, what are your thoughts on using 15” speakers for guitars in a mix with 12” speakers?

I'd love to see how it sounds blended with a WGS Reaper HP or an Eminence Wizard since they would also have that midrange coloring to fill the void the Nighthawk leaves open.

On your amp collection you said a couple of times that for leads the D-Moll is a great amp. But what about the speakers? What are the speakers you find are best suited for lead work and shred? Btw, thanks to you I discovered the Jensen Tornado that are amazing imho. Thanks, cheers!

    Kristian, I was thinking, a lot of us use our road gear in our project studios, so maybe people would like to hear what the four speakers sound like together live in the room? Say, recorded from 1m away using a condenser? That would give us an idea of what they would sound like in a small club setting.

    Would be awesome to do a speakers and genre mashup vid. EG: Use some alnico or neo magnet speakers for super technical tight tone, use a ceramic magnet for really huge low ended doomy tones: Something like that. Basically trying slow response drivers in faster music, vice versa. A lot of grindcore seems to do this, where a lot of the guitar tones are gross, distorted lumpy things and yet they're playing super fast. Not very technically clean of course, but the end sound is great because the whole thing is mixt together in a fun way. Also I just picked up Rainbows and Chainsaws, Awesome metal tone with no tweaking.

    I found Jensen has a lot of interesting tones, listening the samples on the official website I found really interesting Electric Lightening 10 in for his pouch and middle focused character, the Raptor 100 and the C12Q more than C12k-2 ...but probably because I am searching a sound more versatile that Can work well with single notes and solos. I invite to make some other comparison with other cones 😜 However very interesting, we need more of this just to give more options and not referring always to the same sounds as you said. Thanks

  • @JensenSpeakersVideos

    Of the ones you mentioned, all can do good in a "metal" context. Maybe only the C12Q could be a little too temperamental. Remember that all the "vintage" speakers were designed and voiced for clean tones or natural overdriven tones, certainly not for pedals and not for high-gain preamps. Smaller voice coils = brighter tones. Smaller magnets = less tight bass. In other words, the C12Q may have so much high-frequency content that, paired with a high gain tone, that naturally drips with upper harmonics, may sound with a lot of sizzle. IT will surely sound great with cleans, pushed cleans, classic rock tones etc. Maybe not the tightest one for palm muting and low-tunings.
