The Best is Rod Liddle - Revolution!

Elections across the world are increasingly being won by parties described as ‘populist’, but what does the term actually mean?
According to our national broadcaster, it means “far right-wing, neo-fascist, xenophobic, racist, anti-Islamist…(the list goes on)”. But they would say that, wouldn’t they?
Parties described as ‘populist’ may be economically left-leaning, right leaning or centrist - some are Social Democrats - but they are unified in representing the values and aspirations of an electorate let down by the establishment parties and institutions.
A vote for any ‘populist’ party is a vote for patriotism, nation state, secure borders, family, faith and community - a sense of rootedness and identity.
It is a vote against globalisation, unchecked free-market capitalism, open labour markets and supra-national organisations.
Populism is a revolution against social and economic neoliberalism, an ideology which has grotesquely overreached and is now - thankfully! - destroying itself due to its inherent contradictions.
Rod Liddle and William Clouston discuss the roots of neoliberalism, its impacts on our society, and its current demise.
Good riddance, says Rod:

I had the pleasure of meeting Rod a couple of weeks ago as he was walking his dog and was delighted to find him as down to earth and friendly to speak to in real life as he is to listen to and read wherever he pops up . I told him that people like him and Douglas Murray , Jordan Peterson etc give us all hope and I also promised him my vote as he is standing as a candidate in my constituency. I haven’t forgotten Rod 😉 keep up the good work 🙏

Rod's comments on the statistical outcomes of children from single parent homes is spot on. I myself came from a single parent home where both parents were riddled with addiction. I did poorly at school and have mental health effects to this day. I managed to pick myself up and went on to get a university education and professional job. I also have a stable, loving family of my own. However, I always felt 5-10 years behind my peers, and not all from my background are as lucky as me. Many fall into addiction themselves. Well done for speaking on such topics, we need to talk about this a hell of a lot more.

Double parent households can still be a nightmare though, the same as some parents liberated from a dead weight of an ex can do a great job parenting on their own . Some prosperous parents for instance are not there for their kids due to careers, boarding school, or general lack of interest. Education and money doesn’t necessarily equate to good parenting.

  • @6JackOfClubs9

@serenityinside1 Yeah, I suppose there are always outliers, but I expect the majority of single parent households struggle a lot more than two parent households. It's not just money and education, but they are two major indicators of lifetime success. Even when the single parent is well adjusted and earning a decent wage, parenting solo is still a massive challenge.

Sadly there is a genetic confound here, it's difficult to separate this out. Your parents give you your environment, they also bequeath you your genes. It's tough to separate the cause of unwholesome outcomes out. There are techniques, which strongly suggest that genes weigh more than our overlords would concede.

William speaks such great sense! The wholesale selling of CRITICAL assets, industry and security of energy to "international finance capital" is a national disgrace! Giving away ... at a song...the very things that people sweat blood and tears and effort and lives over should be punished harshly and taken back into our hands.

People, especially in the media and politicians, ignoring the etymology of the two words use the word populism when they mean demagogy! - Populism: a political approach that strives to appeal to ordinary people who feel that their concerns are disregarded by established elite groups. - Demagogy: a political activity or practices that seek support by appealing to the desires and prejudices of ordinary people rather than by using rational argument. The first one is good, the second is sinister!

I think the remain party with disaffected Tories seem a good bet and if they don't perform ... Vote them out. We are already watching a reaction against neoliberalism on the European continent, where the average European voter is fed up with governments that have attempted to impose a multicultural dogma and policy of open door migration on their populaces. Now a strong reaction is taking place and the Conservative/Labour parties are completely out of synch with this, which is why an increasing number of voters are turning to the smaller parties like the SDP, Reform, Reclaim whose policies are more reflective of the silent majority's values. I honestly believe that what has occurred in the Netherlands is now going to happen in the UK in the next General Election. The no. 1 electoral issue is illegal economic migration coupled with a rise in Islamism. Once this is sorted out, and it can only happen with a withdrawal from the ECHR, then everything else can follow. And this is the SDP's stated position: 'We will withdraw from the 1951 UN refugee convention, the ECHR and all other international instruments which deny UK border sovereignty'.

I would always disagree with the "silent majority" view of public disquiet about "current social, institutional and governmental fashion". My belief is that there is a majority that are unhappy, discontent and yes, silent, but they do not know why! I felt much the same until an incident i was subjected to at work opened up much of what I now know. It's a majority for sure, but one which is cowed and unknowing.

@IvanKinsmanSDP I do wonder how more "triggers" we need. I'd have thought with the homegrown islamist cottage industry in killing, grooming, fraud et al. Brexit and all the discussion around that, the lessons seen on the continent etc that many many triggers have been pulled. I suppose this comes down to what Enich Powell once said of the British, that the nation has a startling propensity to ignore danger when faced with it. Words to that effect anyway and not said in a noble sort of stoic British way, but much like that of a chicken coop being surrounded by wolves.

They really cannot drag themselves out of a faux left-right divide. Liddle has some interesting theories but mostly the usual tawdry right’s ideas or a misinterpretation of what’s going on. Interestingly, he mentions “patrician” and that is the curse. It’s either tinkering at the edges to make the worker ants a little more comfortable (whereas the Tories have reduced us to desperation and starvation, it’s difficult to protest when you need to work 60 hours a week to feed a private landlord) or “fully automated luxury communism” which is ridiculous, along with any form of communism. It’s no surprise that the economically screwed in the North East supported John Macdonald’s sensible tax and renationalisation policies- it’s the main plank of a more egalitarian economy which does not simply siphon money out of the veins of the poorest. They voted Brexit because they thought those under them are screwing them. In reality it’s those above. 19:24
