Yeah it's crazy how dogs bred to fight and kill are usually some of the most mild mannered dogs. Most people fail to look into the history of rottweilers but they are definitely one of the most courageous dogs by far.

I had a Rottweiler who barked just once at anything that he though was worthwhile. That alerted our Boston Terrier to bark non-stop like he was the badass. Then the big boy would just go lay down with the most satisfied smile on his face.

@@jw-vx8im yeah they don't just tired of correcting people. But boerboels do stand their ground against predators. Because general farms would've had a pack of boerboels (5 to 10) in those settler times and they were bred to not cowar. So they'd lose obviously but the same way 5 bloodhounds can run a cougar up a tree 5 to 10 boerboels that are way larger could potentially intimidate a lone lion trying their luck. But they deffo ain't winning if the lion wants the smoke. But lions weren't the biggest problem predator for livestock. That would be leopards. And 5 boerboels could even kill a leopard if they go about it right and deffo run it off.

Rottweilers!! My parents friend had two of them. I was 12 and playing in the front yard with the dogs. A man tried to pull me over the fence and I was fighting. The male dog ran over and chomped on his arm and the female stood on her brother and almost bit his throat. My dads friend came out and commanded his dogs to release and the man took off down the street. He asked me if I was okay and I said yes and I was told to play with the dogs in the back yard. My mother was grateful and clocked them dinner. I loved those dogs 🥰

Rotties are top tier family animals. Super kind, but very protective.

My Rottweiler is the sweetest and most gentle boy ever. It’s hard to describe how amazing they are. One night some drunk guys came staggering over to holler at me on my lawn, they didn’t see the black dog behind me in the dark. All Baron did was step forward, stand and stare. They decided to go have fun elsewhere. 😂

I love Rotts so much and I saw that look more than once. That looks that says "your arms looks like a nice snack". When I had mine I would give her those huge cow leg bones. The dog would chew through and eat the entire thing in under 45 minutes. It was absolutely terrifying and amazing to watch

Honestly even rotts not well socialized are sweethearts, they're just easily bored and excitable when not used to proper treatment. I've rescue trained quite a few and it's so easy for them to adapt to family life, it's their natural inclination.

Boerboels are real beasts man. I've had a good amount of them. Their muscle density is amazing and they have one of the highest bite forces of any canine

Just remember if you get a mastiff, they greet you by taking your arm in their mouth and leaving it covered in slobber. It is their way of shaking hands lol.

Raised 4 children with 2 Rottweilers. They are so intelligent and confident, they have no reason to be aggressive for no reason, like some breeds. I had 4 babies crawling and pulling on my huge Rottweilers. So tolerant! Best breed!

Letting kids crawl,pull, and poke dogs is asking for a bite or worse to happen. Dogs have good and bad days same as people they also age at a much faster rate. I grew up with Rottweilers they are great dogs. But if the kids are ole enough they need to be taught to respect the dogs and how to interact with them. Happens to all the time the family dog either gets old or just has a day it doesn’t feel like being pulled or poked and then it gets blamed for biting one of the kids. Hope you know how to read dog body language.

@apbt067 I've raised Rottweilers for 35 years. People have no idea what it takes to raise and train them. They get this dog because they look good. After 9 months of no guidance and discipline, it's too late. They know there is no leadership in the house, so they take the position of leadership. They are so intelligent they have figured out the human very young ! Any dog that bites its owner or kids is insecure and had no discipline or direction. I never had these issues be cause I knew exactly what I was getting into. My 4 kids are older now, but I have no regrets raising them with Rottweilers. Never ever aggression ever!!

Rottweilers are amazing family pets, too. My best friend has one and she is just the sweetest. My friend doesn’t have kids, but all of the people at our workplace bring their dogs so her rotti gets to come into work every day, and so she was kind of nervous letting her meet kids since she had never been around them much at all as a puppy. Whenever customers bring their kids, her rotti gets SO excited! The sound of their voice immediately has her whining to go upstairs so she can meet them! She is SO gentle with them, and really the only worry we ever have with her is that she knocks us over sometimes because she forgets she’s chonky and believes she’s a lap dog, so she wants to lean and sit on you 😂 She can get loud and sound a little scary if she barks, but we always reassure people that this is just her play bark, and you will KNOW if it isn’t. We only hear her scary bark when she sees someone jogging or wearing a hat, aka she thinks you look suspicious 😂 I find it funny because she was not trained to do that, but she doesn’t want anyone running up on her protection space or if she can’t clearly identify you. I have no doubt she would protect us well if we ever had a situation where we needed it, like a break in or getting attacked. She’s super intelligent, and is very good at scaring people whether she’s trying to or not 😂 maybe there’s a reason we’ve not had to see her in action lol Poor girl wants to make so many friends but doesn’t know how big her voice is, and how scary just her friendly bark is 😂 but that lil nub is waggin’ so hard, trying to show she just wants belly rubs and to lick your shins 😂

I met this guy that had an astonishingly big mastiff so careful and benignant. ❤

My rotty is awesome. Never got trained for protection but he does it naturally. If I’m busy working in my yard, he lays down between me and where potential threats might come from and stays alert until I call him off. He never went after anyone but will stand if someone walks in the property which alerts me of the incoming person, usually a neighbour or a delivery person. He looks at me then looks at the person. As soon as I say ok buddy, he turns in the goofball. Never had an occasion where it was a threat but I feel he would do his job if it ever happens.

Oh yeah, these dogs protection is pure instinct. My girl has never been trained for protection. As much as I wanted her to be, I was really sick at the best age and never got the chance to do the heavy training. But her instincts are spot on, and she knows her commands still

I love my Boerboel’s. They are very protective over our house and family.

I got bit real bad by our neighbours completely untrained rottie when I was about 17 years old. Left a nasty mark on my arm but luckily no irreversible damage. Took the fucking clown several minutes to get his dog off of me. Never been more scared in my life than at that exact point that beast caught my arm in its mouth, I was 100% sure my whole arm is gone and was just focusing on keeping my head and neck out of reach. Ended up getting a rottie myself when I turned 19 and moved out from my childhood home, the absolute best dog I've ever had. Training was rough in the beginning but after that no problems whatsoever.

I was recently bit by one in the leg while fishing. The dog was hunting me. Took off after me after I walked past their group. Thankfully I reacted and the dog wasnt able to lock on. Socialize them! Otherwise they get very uncomfortable in busy environments.

My girl is an 11 mo Great Dane/Mastiff and I wish someone had told me how sweet Mastiffs are before. She's got the the steady temperament but the Dane friendliness. I love her so much!

English Mastiffs are by far the best family dog you could ever have. I had an English Mastiff named Brody who lived to be 16 years old. My youngest son used to sing twinkle twinkle Little Star to him and he would just melt. I miss him so much

@@texasgirl6000 Rotties only have a “problem” when they drink water…staring at you as it drips all over the floor…. We bought towels from goodwill/yard sales to keep close by but also taught the command “clean your mouth”. It’s not perfect but each time you say it they take their tongue and wipe their mouth. Our younger one only drools when you have a delicious treat & are taking too long to give it; her current favorite is dehydrated mango. 😂

I have a South African boerboel she’s the sweetest dog ever, only wants to love but none of the neighbors walk on the same side of street when we are out😂. Her stance and stare is enough to scare people off 😂

I had a female rottweiler who was a great guard dog but was also really good and calm with extended family over for bbqs and was great with kids. I still have days where i shed a few tears when I think of her.

Huskys are good guard dogs,not beacuse they bark or bite,THEY SCREAM

As a kid one of my neighbours had a rottweiler. Super sweet dog, got along really well with all the children in the area

Agree 💯 %. Our Rottie is so friendly he chooses to meet strangers or people over FOOD. He’s afraid of everything from cats to boxes. I have been questioning if he is even a true Rottie or maybe just an outlier. Got a wake up call when a pitbull escaped from garage and charged us at full speed. My Rottie took a stance and gave a controllable lion roar! NEVER seen a pitbull turn around so fast with his tail down and walk back to the garage.

I lived next to a rotty. When school kids would walk by, he would jump his fence and sit to be petted. Then he would jump back into his yard. It was amazing to see.

We love our 5 month old Boerboel, Yogi. Garret’s courses have been fantastic - he’s already one of the most well trained dogs we’ve ever had.

My rottie was the most sweetest cutest cuddliest dog we ever had growing up. I would often curl up on the living room floor and use her as a pillow. Out on walks I would run down the street and when I was a bit away my dad would let her off the lead to chase me (used to love seeing the fear on strangers faces when we did this). She was so well trained that she would always stand at my side or in front of me if there were strangers about

English Mastiff is like that one doorman who's so big he never actually needs to get in a fight... and if you get to know him yiu find out he's a really nice guy.

I had an old friend who had an English mastiff, I still have pictures of me laying with that beautiful dog. She was the biggest dog I’ve ever seen with my two eyes, but also the biggest baby. Her favorite snack was cheese, and if she saw a rolled up newspaper, she would P because it would scare her so badly. Her humans were an elderly Italian couple and never once hurt her, but just the thought of them being mad at her just for her to pieces. She was truly the sweetest dog I’ve ever seen. I have a Cane Corso now which I believe is an Italian mastiff… Wow the energy levels are just like night and day.

Finally the Boerboel got some love from you. Very calm dogs but they mean business if someone crosses them.

My dad has been a cop for over 30 years and to this day he tells me the worst call he has ever been on was an English Mastiff call. In February many years ago 3 kids broke into a families home sometime between 10:30PM & 12:30AM with intentions of robbing them. It’s unclear if the kids thought no one was home or if the house was specifically targeted. Anyways, the parents of the household were out at a work party late and they had 3 kids who were at home. At the time a 16 year old girl, 13 year old boy and a 7 year old girl who they got via foster care when she was 3 and they were lucky enough to adopt her. This next part is sad but it’s relevant. She came from a very abusive home before CPS finally got a tip of the abuse and went over finding her malnourished and terrified of people because of how poorly she was treated by her mother & her step father (who were both arrested and given 20-life with the possibility of parole after 22 years). When she got her foster home she refused to be around people because she was terrified what they would do to her because all she has ever known were humans abusing her. The family of the home gave her space and let her get comfortable on her own terms as she had been through a lot. Over the next week they noticed she loved looking out her bedroom window when their neighbors dog was outside. So they made a decision to get her a puppy so she could have something to bond with and hopefully in turn understand love not just pain. Well obviously the dog was an English Mastiff and they did everything together. Slowly overtime this little girl saw her parents taking care of her dog that she loved so dearly and she started to realize they’re helping the dog just like they want to help her. So they became a family ending with her being officially adopted by their foster parents about 3 years after getting her. Now that the backstory is out of the way, the 3 boys kicking in the back door and made entry into the house. Obviously startled all 3 of the kids were shaken and the oldest girl made her way to the stairs and looked down to see 2 men in their living room. She screamed and ran towards her younger sisters room where their dog was. Opening her door the dog was very nervous and alert. The bedroom door did not have a lock on it. The 2 men from the living room made their way up the stairs followed by the 3rd guy as well. They opened the door and made the biggest mistake of their lives. Protecting his family, the dog jumped on one of them and bit one of the boys on the ankle. His bite was so strong it broke his ankle and I mean absolutely obliterated it. The dog then jumps on the next closest to the room and barely got the kids hand but he took 2 of his fingers right off. The third one was smart enough to run down the stairs during all the commotion but he tripped down the stairs and broke his leg. Seeing the other boy run, the dog went back to the second guy who was still standing up and bit down on his thigh. The dog then returned to the room with the girls where they shut the door and waited for the police to show up. The third guy with the broken leg hobbled out of the house and got picked up by the police about 200 yards from the house but his friends didn’t follow him. The 2 boys did not make it. One of them had their femoral artery hit and bleed out in just minutes, the second boy actually had a seizure from the pain he had endured and ended up dying later at the hospital. Mastiff’s are in fact great defense dogs

My aunt has a baby boerboel, she is such a cute dog, learning super fast ultra attached to the kids, which was the point.. lol on the farm she’s the only one that isn’t contained somehow

I had an English Mastiff (Mabel), and I now have a Boerboel (Olive). Completely different personalities, and I love them both. Mabel was the kind of Mastiff that made other people want one. Olive is a bit more standoffish, but once she accepts you as a part of her family, the love she gives is amazing.

I have a purebred Kuvasz and her default is chill and laid-back but the second she senses danger... you best get the hell away from me or she'll tear you a new one. Most loyal dog I've ever had. However, not a breed for first time owners, stubborn and sensitive is a combination for a more experienced person

Have one too, but just a mix. He’s very loyal and protective of his family, but actually relatively nice when not around us. Very solitary animal though, if you want another you will need to raise it with the Kuvasz from birth, my dog hates basically any other animals or adult men that come near us.

When I was a kid I always dreamed of having either a Great Pyrenees or Kuvasz...but I never did end up owning a dog. They're beautiful animals though.

my English mastiff was the sweetest dog. she never learned how big she got, and would try to squeeze into the smallest places. when we brought my daughter home from the hospital, she would sleep right next to the crib

I'm a boerboel owner and one thing I can say is that if raised correctly they really are willing to fight anything for you. Just last week my smallest one was smallest one was fighting a cow because it tried to chase her away.

Ive had rotty mixes for almost 2 decades, softest babies ever 😊

Grew up with rottweilers. Last one passed away last November. Loyalty and protection were always his priority and he was also a big teddy bear😂

I had a boerboel, they are incredible smart, caring and gentle with children, i loved him incredibly, he grew up to be larger than normal boerboels so people were scared to even visit us, but he knew who was stranger danger and who not, they do eat alot on the side note... Miss you my boy❤️‍🩹

I had a 115lb Rottweiler who took a shine to my little girl. When she was 4 and only 30lbs she would walk the dog on a leash (I wouldn't let her do it for long distances for obvious reasons). That dog would NEVER leave her side. You can approach any one of us but you would not be able to get within 10 feet of my kid without that dog in your face. She wouldn't growl or make a noise but she made her presence VERY well known. Best dog I ever had

we had a Rottweiler growing up. he loved us, but loved protecting us kids more. my mom got him when she divorced my dad for protection. he did his job faithfully for 8 years then i had to put him down due to cancer. id love another Rottweiler

My mom bred rotts grew up with one named Zeus I’d read to him and he followed me everywhere and wouldn’t let me into the street but also wouldn’t let anyone we didn’t approve of into the yard. Great dogs.

I miss frankly the stick collector. You only needed to find her and 5 pounds of kindling between her teeth. Never a grump in 10 years . Rip frankie.

Our rottweiler love's the family and is absolutely protective of his people he doesn't bark much but when he does the whole neighborhood hears it. Hands down one of the best dogs I've ever had.

You got that right when it comes to the protection abilities of the well bred Rottweilers! There's literally nothing like them!!! And the way they pick up on someone's thoughts & intentions is phenomenal!!!! As a professional breeder, handler & trainer of the many different 'protection dog' breeds, for my own personal protection dogs I will have no other!!!

My dad used to breed high pedigree rottweilers at my house when I was 10. At one point we had around 12 rottweilers living in our yard. Very good dogs if you can handle their character

I have worked with or around dogs since I was a little guy. My aunt operated the local humane society and my dad worked there on his days off from the fire department then I went on to do the same as well as volunteer for several mastiff rescues here in Florida. I will second what is stated here about the Rottweiler. They are smart, loyal, and will annihilate a person if they feel threatened. If a Rott likes you, you have a friend for life. If a Rott LOVES you, you have a furry Guardian Angel who will move Heaven and Earth to make sure you are safe. If a Rottweiler doesn’t like you…move along and better luck next time because if you cross that dog, you WILL regret it. They don’t bite often, but they more than make up for frequency with severity. Fortunately, they have a good off switch and tend to back off once the perceived threat is gone.

Rottweilers are such a good family pet! I’ve had a Rottweiler my whole life. When I was a baby they’d sleep by my crib and keep me from going near the stairs! Such good dogs!

The only time I’ve been properly scared by my grandparent’s rottie is when we came into the house without her being shown that we were there, scared the shit out of me but she went back to being a big sweet pile of cute after she knew who we were. Amazing breed. Perfect dog aside from a couple issues (that can be fixed and are being worked on), really hoping to get one when I can afford it.

@@kinglokimrvegas8687 that wouldn’t even be eugenics. dog breeds shouldn’t be forced to suffer cause humans think they look cool. i’m all for breeding healthier dogs, that’s why i’m a fan of retro pugs and renaissance bulldogs. i’m going into dog breeding when i can afford it and fully intend to improve health and functionality with every litter i produce. humans can have kids with whoever they want, they’re smart enough to know and deal with their own health issues, dogs don’t, so they need humans to step in and make sure they’re bred responsibly.

Whoopsie. I visited a friend in Italy and saw a Rottweiler behind a fence. Approached the fence, the dog came towards me. I let him sniff me, had a few kind words for him and ended up petting him through the fence. He was a real sweetheart. Still, looking back, I would argue that was stupid of me.

As a South African I can confirm that bro is right about the Boerboel.

There was a Rottweiler that was behind a fence in one of my neighborhood houses. Every time I would pass by it he would bark violently. One day I was walking pass his fence as I was semi distracted, I didn’t notice until it was too late that the fence was open. The second I realized it, the dog was semi lunging towards me aggressively. I knew I was f’ed so in a split second I knew I can’t run, so I just stood still and averted my eyes in a somewhat submissive stance, when he reached me, he seemed to lessen in aggression and sniffed my hand before going back. I swear my spirit left my body at that moment lol.

Lucky bro fr I own 2 Rottweilers now but both my older cousins in their teens were attacked by a rottweiler he was chained but house had no fence cousins were in backyard it broke the chain and came after one of my older cousin and my cousins big brother saw and came out to save his brother but it was too late my cousin literally PASSED OUT his leg was the only thing done MASSES of meat out of his leg could see his bone right through he’s thankful he could walk and the bone didn’t get chopped down by the rottie

Oh gosh. I have a similar experience. Went out for a walk and otw home, I passed by this sort of car shop. Didn't notice their gate was open. Around 6 dogs came lunging at me. I stayed absolutely still, petrified with fear. They circled me and I kid you not, I felt teeth rubbing against my legs. They sniffed me, then by some miracle decided to let me go unharmed. It was too dark and I was too terrified to see what breed they were, but I swear to God this was one of the scariest moments of my life.

My Rottweiler is one of the best dogs I’ve ever had, it’s hard to describe how loyal, loving and perceptive they are. ❤

I had 4 rotties! Sadley they all died from cancer. They are the most lovable kids you can have. They were very protective of our family!

We had to put down our English mastiff Moo Moo, she was the sweetest dog I've ever known and would undoubtedly lay down her life to protect her family. She was so awesome me and my dad felt like traitors putting her down even though she was in pain

Coming home at night on a bicycle in my village. Suddenly a Rottweiler came from nowhere, followed me for around 200 meters on highspeed. Was quite a chill.

My Borboel would go through a fence for me. They are the sweetest, but can be the most protective dogs as well. Very territorial. They have that switch, but as long as it is controlled and you are aware of your surroundings and the dogs behaviors, it makes the best dog (in my humble opinion) in the world. 🐕

The rottie does bark different. One of the reasons I absolutely love them

A friend who is Leo had a rot at it would growl and bark at everyone it met. Scared rhe piss outta me! But when he made me pet her belly she turned into the sweetest protector ever

I had a Dogo Argentino, he was an absolute beautiful boy, super protective, but loved playing(as long as he was introduced properly) He was pretty stubborn at times(known for that) but when it came to actual Commands he would stop at nothing to make sure he did a good job. And at the end of the day, he was a HUGE softy. I love you Bo Rest In Peace

I would also argue that a German Shepherd is good for guarding too considering how fiercely loyal, protective and intelligent they are.

My best ever dog was a Rottie. For the longest time we thought his only protection value was in the breed reputation because he was such a goofy marshmallow. Then he was tested IRL and WOW, what a difference context makes!! Saw the intelligence displayed both in recognizing real danger as well as my ability to deal with it. Turning both on and off like the switch of a light. Incredible! Powerful! I'm glad I was on the backend of all he brought to the situation! I have never felt safer in my life than when that dog was by my side or under my feet sleeping.

Our family’s friend has Rottie. Big and massive. My mother is always afraid of her. And I like her. I like big dogs. I always know with whom I talk and always confident for what they are capable.

My guard is a wolfdog named Wolf. He's 15, but surprisingly he's very intelligent, strong, energetic, with amazing sight and hearing. He's been trained all his life since there are 2 police officers in our family. Gotta train him well so he can get all the burglars, murderers, etc. He attacks the ones who enter the house territory, the ones who attack my family, so basically all the dangerous/evil people. He's also very cute tho. I love how if someone or something attacks him, he can send them to Jesus. That's a cute fact I hope. He's actually very nice to family. He listens to ppl too. Here are his command things: Woo: Attack Hiya: Stop Tratra: Run Fah: Wait here And more. He also knows the common stuff like sit, lay down, roll, stand on back paws, pray, lick, etc. He has a dog family too, he's the father of 3 dogs, they're all 13. He was bred with a female husky. She was very weak though, unfortunately Skye the husky passed away from old age.
