It kinda feels like they cycle between refreshing the g14 and g15. Last year the g15 saw big improvements, this year the g14 got all the love. It just feels weirder since they already make the m16 which is literally just a better g15 chassis with an intel processor (better/worse depending on workload). Given the similar chassis, I’d have loved to see the 16:10 display at least as an upgrade. The cynic in me says they knew these new AMD processors and nvidia ti graphics cards are good enough to sell with the old design, so are just saving it for an easy upgrade next year

I mean if you or anyone else me including had to choose out of G14 G15 and M16 from this year to conrast what we had as an option from last year, i'd go with M16. man it's so much better, screen is super cool, performance too. the only thing i am wondering is if you can downclock it and undervolit to match efficiency of amd's cpu so you can get more battery life out of it. G15 this year is ful of shit, why would anyone pick sth in between, i'd rather go with G14 or M16, less performance more battery life or more performance and lesser battery life, but but both give you amazing panels even tho it comes with a cost of the refresh rate, so what i am trying to say is there is no clear winner thanks to asus not making a perfect laptop with perfect specs...

The M16 feels like a direct competitor to the Razer Blade 15/17 for creatives that are looking for the extra graphical performance in the thin & light laptop category. I think at the high end all models come with 3080ti with 16GB of vram and 32GB of ram. Of course the Blade 15 gets a lot less wattage compared to the M16 and Blade 17 so that's something to consider too on top of the price.

@@enkvadrat_ I actually don’t plan on taking this machine anywhere. I’ll keep it at home and usually use it plugged in at all times. This will be my first gaming laptop, again I was all set to go with the M16 until he pointed out how loud it gets. Maybe this is an, unknown to me, reality of gaming laptops. I don’t plan on using it for any CPU intensive work, but I wouldn’t mind it having at least above decent GPU performance. I’ve seen the benchmarks for the G14 and they look to me to be OK at best for a 2022 machine. Both machines hit all of my check boxes in most regards, high refresh rate screen, good brightness, and the aspect ratio is good for both as well. I really want to use whatever I get with my LG OLED TV so that I can play PC games on my 55 inch.

@@Ducott For high end gaming Nvidia is the way to go. If you won't use the laptop on the battery mode that often then you might as well go for the intel chip for that extra CPU juice and more FPS. 44db is actually quite good for a gaming laptop in balanced mode and is not that loud. If you really need a more quiet laptop then you could also go for Razer Blade. But it has worse performance due to lower tdp and is more expensive.

Well thanks for the review Dave, I'm kinda just set on the Alienware x17 but see they do have a newer version out, was also interested in the ROG Zephyrus Strix Scar 17 only because of the price and the graphics card, and processor in it. I want something that is geared for what I am gonna use it for. I think the Alienware x17 is just my pick because it has more ports and a bigger hard drive option geared for what I want.

When running on integrated graphics (music production is not graphically demanding), the laptop stays pretty quiet and cool. No complaints. When gaming, it def gets hot and loud, but I use headphones and don't notice. It's an amazing laptop with a great screen and a solid keyboard. Def recommend!

But, I have since watched a lot of videos and read a lot of reviews that talked about how much hotter the Alter Lake chips still are vs the AMD chips. I game and make videos so I was pretty sure I needed to have an Intel chip. I saw that you used your G15 as your main laptop last year and wanted to know if you used it for video editing and if so, if it's a viable option. Like you, I think the white laptop is so nice to look at, and the lower thermals and quieter fan are also tempting. Thanks!

Hey Dave, great content as always. I'm curious about a couple things. With both my 2020 Area 51m R2 max configs (10900K, RTX 2080 Super) and 2021 Aorus 15P YD max config (11800HK, RTX 3080 16GB VRAM), I still get better performance than both the aforementioned lot in the video as well as even the new X17 R2 with max configuration on more than a couple gaming benchmarks and 3DMark and PC Mark scores. This holds true for more than a few other 3070 Ti/3080 Ti powered 2022 models from what I've read of published benchmarks. Of course, A51m R2 is a true full fledged desktop replacement with desktop parts and 15P is specifically optimized to be a slim form factor gaming and media powerhouse. But how much of this do you think has to do with performance bottlenecks due to Advanced Optimus? And how much of it do you chalk up to throttling and heat issues in the slimmer form factor of newer laptops? The A51m R2 has neither AO or a Mux Switch and 15P YD only has a proprietary software-based solution to bypass optimus from within Aorus Control Center that can be set to auto or manual control. Then of course, there's also simply connecting to DP or HDMI 2.1 Display for a performance jump.

Seriously love your reviews! But this one surprised me to be honest. I waited all last year to get an M16 with a decent GPU, but the 3070 version never came to the US. As soon as this 3070 Ti model was available I snatched it. Now I've been using the Razer 14 and I have loved it but I wanted that bigger screen for what I do. The screen on the M16 is incredible no doubt, but overall the fan noise is so bad I couldn't take it. I had to return it. Anything I did on it that needed the slightest performance boost required the fans to be cranked and they are horribly loud. Excellent screen, but build quality for the price left something to be desired, battery life is not great, and just too loud. So I was shocked you recommended it as I didn't feel the performance outweighed the fan noise.

As said before, the Intel labtop will get significantly worse battery life but does perform better when plugged in. It is probably the best choice if you do not need to worry about battery life and always have the charger on you. I personally would not use it as a school labtop. If you need to take it to school or work without worrying about battery life the g15 is the way to go for sure. You are not losing game breaking performance in gaming or productivity. FPS in gaming is the same but productivity is slightly better than the g15 and it has a better screen. I would personally get the g15 only because I only casually game on my gaming labtop. It is not a desktop replacement for me. And I need a longer lasting battery and a labtop than runs cooler while still being a good performer.
