It’s best to add vinegar then salt to help the salt stick, also trying some of the smaller chip shops near the clock tower, the one call the tower chippy, the chips have a buttery taste and texture, and awesome with scrumps (batter bits) I am a local, and know of an amazing tiny donut hut, with the best donuts based on years of perfection. But they put so much love and passion into what they do, it’s like a Tardis, it looks bigger on the inside , and they even do amazing burger and chips, best with fried onions and mustard, I treated my mum to one just yesterday (Weds) she said they are better than McDonald’s. But the thing is, their prices are way too low compared to everyone else. It is an hidden treasure of skegness. Their donuts need your rating. Just for £2 you get 4 Donuts, and Nutella drizzled over them. Their size, shape, texture are the perfect role model that the other venders. But the secret is, they only take cash, so make sure you have £2. Their location is the little brick vendor right near the corner that has McDonald’s behind it. It has a red colourful graphics on the front, and 2 smiling honest ladies who are the key to the secret golden donuts. Enjoy

@@WalkWithMeTim you are very welcome, there are some amazing places were the people are very modest, they don’t shout out, and often their foods are hidden gems of their own, I loved your review in Black pool, I realized I never tried cod battered before. I always had haddock, I always avoided plaice, because that fish has a strange face, on one side. So I shall try cod next time, if you ever want to try haddock, I recommend Seaview fisheries, that one is the real gold gem of skegness, every evening the people waiting in a long line outside will all say it is worth it. The haddock has no bones or skin just like your cod, and their chips are so tasty even on their own, before you have added salt and pepper, so if you sit down inside, it will come on a plate, so you can try some of the chips with scrumps of course. And you will know what I mean. They extended the the seating area by using many shop premises, because they are on high demand to seated people, including dealing phone orders to deliver. After a few years ago after a fire, They came back better than ever. All the locals claim it as the real best.

You were lucky, Tim. That place usually has awful music blaring out so loud the speakers distort. Generally all the chippies in Skeg are at a decent standard, but not amazing. For that you need to go to Mablethorpe or Grimsby (if you want to be by the coast, but go inland a bit and you'll be tripping over fantastic chippies).

Compared to down south that is a great price for fish and chips especially at a seaside town. If eating in the restaurant (as opposed to a take away) I would prefer it on a proper plate with metal knifes and forks. Your video was good and to the point, because some youtubers would make the video last two or three times longer filling it with waffle and asking people watching to also score it, which is rather difficult if you haven’t tasted it.

Lived here all my life and if your in a rush the trawlers catch delivers. Haddock chips and peas £5.95 and the fish is usually huge. I don't think they use quality oils but I suppose with today's oil prices we have to expect a budget variant. My personal favourite is a chip shop in wainfleet about 4 miles away called Sutton's. It has recently changed hands so hopefully the quality is still there. Many years ago Sutton's used to be coal fire heated and they used beef dripping or lard so the taste was out of this world 'not healthy but once in a blue moon doesn't hurt anyone' 👍'

If you're ever in the Walkden area, you should check out The Walkden Bar at first it doesn't look anything special, just one of those small fish & chips takeways, but the food there is literally out of this world.

Salts on Roman Bank are the best. You need to get away from the town centre where they cater for the tourists. Locals get to know the best place and that's Salts.

I always enjoy watching your fish and chip reviews and seeing what is being sold out and about and your reaction to it. We all have our favourite way of eating the meal. I love chip shop chips and rarely disappointed unless I get a lot of the small hard bits.i like my ChipShop chips to be soggy and soft and not crispy. When it comes to the fish I am one of the few who hardly eats any of the batter and might eat just an eighth and throw the rest away, I concentrate on the quality and quantity of the fish ( normally cod or haddock). Have been disappointed in some places with the actual amount of fish served. The batter sometimes disguises a very thin portion of fish perhaps like as seen on your plate. . I put salt on all my meal and never any vinegar. I was brought up in North London in the fifties and sixties and mushy peas was never seen in any of my local chippies, and as far as I am concerned it is an unpalatable northern delicacy especially if it is made from marrowfat peas and worst of alll drowned in vinegar and minted! However, I do like some picked onions with my F and C, and tatare sauce on the side to dip the fish into. If on the coast I will always try some fish and chips, and usually lobster in Southwold (because it is the only place I know that has it). For restaurants and take aways I am a now a firm believer that fish (and meat) should be sold by weight not by size S M L XL if you can't see it, for instance covered in batter or in a pie. Fish should be nice and moist, chunky with flaky pieces. Your actual fish looked a bit thin for £8 with chips. Are you not a curry sauce eater on F& C, which is a another typical northern side?

Good price at £8.25. freshly cooked it is worth it. Portion size needs to be looked at. 2:25 vinegar first then salt second. Trawlers Catch could do without polystyrene trays.

Although I didnt like the decor of that Fish & Chippy in Skegness. It was like a kids theme park to me & too noisy! You know me Tim I do like Posh Places🤣 But the Fish looked Nice & the Chips looked ok & the Mushy Peas looked very green! You made me feel hungry at 11pm for Fish & Chips when I watched your vlog. So I had packet of Ready Salted Crisps before bed🤣

I had a very similar experience up the road at Ingoldmells lovely piece of fish but chips not so good I think it's the time of year if there a new crop potato they don't brown very well. The alternative is to use frozen chips there fairly fool proof but that would spoil the experience

I’m really enjoying seeing the places I used to go as a kid. I always disliked Skegness as we went EVERY year in October and stayed at Richmond Park. Nice to see it as an adult. I used to live on the Isle of Man, could you go there, please? If you do the magnetic hill, Douglas and Foxdale are recommended.
