I’m beginning to think you are going to have to pretreat all stains and also do a pre soak and use a standard top load washer where it actually agitates for an almost hour wash cycle. Also not over loading the washer.

I’ve never had luck with the eco-friendly detergents. Unless your laundry is basically clean to begin with, they just don’t anything and are often a lot more expensive. The whites were also a lot more dingy. My grandma and mom always used Tide, and that’s what I’m going back to.

You need HOT water to get stains out, except for blood. I pretreat all stains with plain blue Dawn and very hot tap water. Works every time.

The lye soap was very disappointing. Looks like there is no way around good agitation, scrubbing and soaking.

I’ve tried the wash balls and laundry sheets, I could have told you they are useless. As for lye soap or any detergent, boiling water and sunning does make a big difference.

I pre treat any stains, and then let them soak before washing, I use Roma soap from Big lot's , and Walmart, I've used dawn blue soap, to take bacon grease out too. 😊

I consider everything you are trying to clean to be "stains"......depending on the situation pretreating (seventh generation spray) and/or soaking with oxiclean (or a generic version with no fragrance added) are my dependable methods......I usually just stop the machine and let soak that way until I decide enough time has gone by and restart......usually do a second rinse for those loads as well........fragrance free or Ecos for the detergent and mostly cold water.......hot for heavy duty whites......lots of boy laundry over the years😂

How disappointing! I've used Ecos for years, granted I really don't have a lot of issues with stains but I do get the occasional grease or oil so I tend to keep a spot treatment stick on hand at all times. Thank you so much for this series!

What if you take the best of the liquid, powder and alternative laundry soaps and do a pre-wash product test to see if using a pre-wash products will truly get the stains out. Back in my grandmother's day, she did wash in a metal tub over a fire with a wash board as well. I myself use fels naptha bar soap and hand scrub the stain, but even fels naptha won't take out motor oil. I have had success with lestoil added to the wash on motor oil stains. I can even remember the commercials for lestoil and their little tingle. This of course was back in the 60's. I'm totally loving you comparison tests. Lestoil is still sold today.

i don't pre treat stains most of the time unless be hard to remove and tide doesn't work on certain stains of biological origen but surprisingly gain works and remove those stains even in cold water and in an He machine, never had faith in those ecological detergents

What about the bacon grease? Did they all take out the bacon grease since you didn’t mention it? Food stains are the only thing I worry about. No grass or mud stains here.
