The Best Concert Ukuleles for Beginners...

    When I purchased my first ukulele I did so much research for weeks to find the store that appeared to offer the service that I wanted. SUS has always surpassed these needs and these videos are testament to the service I have had, and that they offer. I suffer from BFFS (big fat finger syndrome) so my next purchase will be the Islander MOC-4, purely because no one but Alex has taken the time to showcase these concert ukuleles, and it sounds amazing. I mean...... NO breakfast......? That's dedication........ Joking aside, thank you for you time and effort you put into each video. I've not been playing long, but I'm improving each week. Looking forward to the next video. Best regards Tony, from Norfolk

    I'm still blown away by the aNueNue Colour for the price of it. Feels, plays and sounds like a much more expensive instrument. In fact much closer to their higher end stuff than the price would suggest.

    Got myself a great, great deal on a Sophia Soundwave (liked the binding and spruce more than the Diana), and the sustain as well as clear high notes blew me away... not to mention the looks... However I think quality control is really hit or miss with Flight - the intonation was about 25% flat at the 12th fret and just about between two notes at the 17th. Also while the Soundwave pickup was quite cool, I found it physically too heavy and unbalanced in a concert body... And the G string barely registered. I took off the saddle and investigated the problem but nothing to be done on that one I'm afraid, and I think a good dealer would've rejected the instrument. Hence the importance of buying from a specialty place like SUS!! It's just the overseas shipping that has been prohibitive in my case.

  • @PanoramaUnion

    @PanoramaUnion

    2 жыл бұрын

    If the action is not high and the saddle is compensated, it can be because of the string. I had this problem with Daddario titanium, but changed it to aquilas and it intonated correctly after that.

    Thanks for another great video. Question: I have a lovely EU3T but I'd like to add a concert in this price range to have different tuning and to take with me with less worry, especially outside in the shade. I'd like glossy and not mahogany for this one. Should I really avoid a solid top because of changing conditions? Are some woods more forgiving than others? I live in a pretty temperate area. Thanks for your boundless wisdom :)

  • @SouthernUkuleleStore

    @SouthernUkuleleStore

    3 жыл бұрын

    I think it depends on how much you want to spend... something like the SUC-M1 Snail is a glossy laminate that competes nicely with solid tops so why take the risk? I am not an expert on how extreme climate changes affect different woods but if you do want a solid top I think I would consider Mahogany to be the most durable. Just don't take something with a lacquer finish like the Eastman.

    Hi Alex, thanks for your excellent reviews, very binge-worthy :) I was wondering about the difference between the Flight Diana CE and the Snail BHC-6C. The specs seem very similar (minus the electro acoustic features on the Snail), but the Snail is about 100 BP more. It's hard to tell just from listening to these instruments being played over youtube, but I imagine there must be something a little more refined about the Snail? Would love to hear your thoughts! Thanks!

    What do you think of the laminate Romero Creations ukuleles? Their STL model is popular over here with people looking for a lower priced ukulele. I don't know what is the UK price, but it costs $149 in the USA.

  • @pertinux8902

    @pertinux8902

    3 жыл бұрын

    The STL is, to me, an awkwardly proportioned model (a Lot of body to the foreshortened neck), and definitely feels like a budget/corner-cut instrument (just, sharp nut corners and fret board edges, the snipped fret at the sound hole was left very sharp at each side vs sanded or rounded, that sort of thing). To me, the STL does not fare well not only in comparison to the other (very much upscaled) offerings in the RC line up but also to others in a similar price range. My Anuenue UC-10, for example, puts it to shame from a finishing standpoint. The STL has its place, of a kind, but I'd hesitate to recommend it over some of these others, especially without a return policy.
