Top 10 Ukuleles of 2021 - Southern Ukulele Store
Here we are - another year is drawing to a close and here at SUS we like to cap each year off by gathering the collective opinions of our staff and constructing our own top 10 of the Ukuleles we have had, held and sold throughout 2021. The only rules are that past winners or top 3 ukes cannot enter 2 years in a row but a ukulele lower down the list can climb up the list...
Thank you for watching throughout the year, please do subscribe to the channel for more regular Ukulele content.

Price points: 150£-300£: 1 300£-600£: 1 600£-1000£: 4 1000£-2000£: 1 > 2000£: 1 The 300-600 price point is a bit under-represented, with the one above perhaps over-represented. But all in all a very good year and great choices.

That is an interesting note. Proportionately that summary lines up with our average uke sales and the £300-600 category is the one with the most well known and safe options that have not really developed or changed for years. It also tells me that what you get for £600-1000 is currently noteworthy which is definitely more true now than in the past.

@@SouthernUkuleleStore That makes prefect sense. A safe but not so innovative price category.
Excited for everyone to see!
I keep replaying Phil's reaction to the Lion. The way he turns it over and looks quizzically into it is video gold.
Don't know the final order, but I am guessing there will be more than one or two that I have had a look at. I ended 2020 thinking it was a bit of a lame time for new innovation. Whilst the pandemic has something to do with that I actually thought the same at the end of 2019 - all very samey. 2021 though has thrown up some great new interesting stuff. Been a good year considering. You and Matt have become my 'go-to's' for new interesting stuff that breaks away from the usual re-badges and endless ukes that all look the same.

That's good to hear. I think that the brands that chose to push forward at the start of the pandemic rather than try and steady the ship have thrived. Its clear now compared to say 2018/2019 how many big ukulele brands have coasted along and been overtaken. It's so interesting how new brands can break through in the uke world compared to the guitar world...

@@SouthernUkuleleStore Totally agree - ukes I suppose are still young in the modern market (obvious trad names excepted) and I can think of countless obvious names that were literally the ONLY value choice ten years back becoming less and less relevant. All good for consumer choice of course.

@@GotAUkulele Baz, I missed your question about trousers! Definitely off! ;) Dare I ask what colour you have chosen for your second aNueNue Colour? Is it one of the new limited edition shades as Alex mentioned for next Spring? I can't wait to see those! Alex, please put my name down for one of those!
You guys are my new favorite KZread channel!
One of my favourite annual podcast shows. Worked away all week and to settle down and see each uke and the countdown with genuine reasons is brill. You and your colleagues should take a bow and may I wish you all a happy and prosperous 2022.
I LOVE my AnueNue UC10! Bought one after Got A Ukulele reviewed them and it instantly became my favorite ukulele. It's so comfortable to hold and play, great sound, very lightweight but with a big sound and just plain fun. So happy to see it on this year's list!
Nobody does it better than the SUS team! Thanks for an insightful and well thought out top 10! As always you rock boys! Thanks much for what you do!
Happy Christmas Alex and Guns and all the team at SUS - thanks again for the call when the Fireballs arrived! I've been having so much fun with it and I'm really glad to have been to your brilliant shop. You put so much work in, you deserve all the success that comes your way.

Thanks so much! Enjoy your uke x
You are absolutely right about Millar ukuleles. I have felt so blessed, thankful and happy ever since I managed this year to get from SUS my Millar TK-260W (tenor, solid cypress/rosewood). The sound! Thank you again for answering all my odd questions and trying to understand what it is what I need: I am so satisfied with this one. My uke!

I ordered in August 2021 and finally received - from my local uke store in Western Australia - both listed Flights in December! I consider myself extremely fortunate to have these two ‘beach’ ukes and now need to deserve them with my yet to be developed skills! Thanks for your always inspiring and interesting reviews, Alex and Phil.

Just so you know, we ship to Australia and the combined cost of shipping the two of them would have qualified for free shipping 🚢 😉
Well, darn, now I want a new electric uke.
WOW WOW WEE WAH !
Always interesting. Thanks for putting the list together. Choice - always tough, right?
Another great review, guys. Have a good Xmas and new year everyone at SUS. 🎶🎤
The video we’ve all been waiting for! 🥳🎉 I’m pretty sure I have a few on your list … we’ll see! 😉✌️
I just love you guys!! Thanks for your passion and joy! ❤
Fabulous video once again guys. Love to all at SUS wishing you all a good Christmas and a prosperous new year x
Very exciting list! Salivating...
Loving the orange. I have my heart set on a travel ukulele.
Great list and nice to see the Carabao up there. It has very nearly solved my UAS. I have hardly played anything else since owning one. I love it.

Yeh... a lot of people have said similar things. Thanks for your support Dean.
Well these are all exceptional instruments, but as a less than average player whose opinion may be of little value, I recently bought an Ohana TK35G from you ... and I must say I'm delighted with it...It's superb....

I like the Flights. Have kept the innovation coming. Just bought a Flight acacia. Prices are competitive too.
Sweet sound
great video Alex and amazing choice of Ukes...I know I probably shouldn't but I ....feel jealous looking at some of these?
The NO.1 is a beauty
Ooo pathfinder nice :)
The Flights are lovely but I still bought the 2021 Kanile'a Platinum Tenor as it not only sounds beautiful and has Kanile's great workmanship, but it fits a woman's body better than any of the other 'ukeleles on your 2021 Top Ten list. "Pretty is as pretty does" as my grandmother used to say!

There are certainly worthy alternatives. This is reflecting our store and a video for the top 100 ukes would take a lifetime to make. Also, It would be worth you looking back at the hundreds of other videos on the channel where we showcase other acceptable ukes 🤗

😍😍😍
Hi, I love your videos. So my question is I own a entry level ukulele (kala). I now want to step up to a better uke. I am not a pro, but there are tons of entry level brands, but I don't know what the next step brands are. There seems to be tons out there. I live in the Pacific NW (Portland, Oregon). What do you recommend. Something that is not thousands, but not a plastic uke either.
@SouthernUkuleleStore

I'm not sure of your budget. I would say if you are looking under $400 Ohana, Kala, Pono, Flight or Snail... above that Anuenue Millar, Big Island, Romero Creations. I'd probably just go on our website and search a size you want by price and watch a load of the videos to figure out what floats your boat. 😁
Alex, could I ask that you do a video on what SUS offers us lefties? I love these uke's with side sound holes but they're pretty pointless for us southpaws!
@SouthernUkuleleStore
2 жыл бұрын
There are very few dedicated leftys of note. The Snail SR04 and S60Bs come in a left handed variation and an ohana tk35gcelh but that's about it... everything else would be converted from a right hander. I'm with you... its a pain being a lefty. Most ukes are fine when converted

@@SouthernUkuleleStore Thanks Alex. Is there any mileage in doing a video maybe on your own channel on any gotchas with restringing a uke for a left hander?
Hey guys, I don't suppose you've done a comparison video of electro acoustic ukes by any chance? I live in France and gig a lot and am fed up of being stuck behind a mic all the time. Any advice? I currently have an Ashbury concert resonator and love the loud mellow sound. I'd love to hear your thoughts on what's on the market right now.
@SouthernUkuleleStore

I haven't done many electro uke videos because there are too many variables... the ukes only going to be as good as the amp you plug them in to. I rate Kala, Snail and Flight above the others at the affordable end of things...

Sorry we haven't. Gotaukulele is the place for a review like that...more power to you if it does it for you but it looks a rip off being an all laminate uke at over £250. It looks like it comes out of the factory making the fender ukes.

@@SouthernUkuleleStore that was my feeling also, I am a huge Queen fan, but was disappointed to see the low quality for the price... I've only found one review which was text only and did mention that the larger body gives a darker mellowed sound which is what I'm after in a tenor, but quality and value are way more important to me than simply having a signature uke.
