Really helpful information! We purchased the shotgun seat and the macride and kept the macride. We liked how easily it went on and came off. It was also more comfortable for my wife. She rides all size small frames so it’s a little tight with any kids seat. I wish I could take them on my bike. Riding with an arm prosthesis just makes me too nervous with my balance.

Can't go wrong with either seat. The real estate of the top tube on small frames does disappear quickly. My wife has a size small bike and the seats worked on our bikes. Balance can be tough with a squirming kid. Can you tow a trailer? A Tout Terrain way be a good way to shred with your kids. They work really well.

Great video review - thanks! I’m looking at the shotgun pro (also watched your other video comparing it with the Mac Ride) but curious if it’s easily swappable between bikes? My wife and I both want to be able to ride with our little dude but I don’t want to have to do a full uninstall-install every time we want to switch bikes. Any insight?

Both the Macride and the Shotgun pro are easily swappable between different bikes. You may need to adjust the angle of leg stirrups on both seats to match the Downtube of the bikes. If you do it is a simple Allen key on the Macride and a quick release on the Shotgun pro

Thanks for this - really informative video. I have a 19 month old boy and thinking of options to commute to work. Were thinking we'd buy a commuter bike with carrier to put on a bike seat, but we both already have mountain bikes at present and thinking one of these could be an option. Only worry is my son might not be quite ready to sit and hold himself on a seat. Do these seats also have a waist/chest strap to keep him secure if he gets bored, etc? I was looking at the Shotgun variety but just seemed to be the seat, footholds and handlebars... it didn't seem like quite enough to hold him in (e.g. with a waist strap at least)?... wondered if there are other options that might achieve this for the age range e.g. 18 months to 2 years old?... he is quite mobile and developed, but thinking at times he might just need to be tied in more securely as with a seat. Thanks again! p.s. the terrain would mostly be flat tarmac sidewalks to get to work -- nothing too scary

They need to be able to hold on. Only feet straps so that their feet dont get caught in the front wheel. Id look at a tradition on-road seat. there are some great front mounted ones as well. We have them listed on our Website. thebikedads.com/front-mounted-child-seats/

@@TheBikeDads thanks very much for the reply. Quick follow up questions. I noted your link doesn't include the Weeride front seat. Any reason for that, less of a fan? I also noticed alot of these seats suggest a weight limit of ~33lb or 17.5kg. While still quite young, our 19 month old is pretty big for his age at ~40lb or ~19kg. Do you think this puts him out of contention for these front seats? The safety notes (on the Weeride at least) seem to suggest 'weight is not a factor', but more height. Did you have any thoughts on this? Have you had heavier kids in these front seats before with no issue? The iBert looks great, but again I see a weight limit of 33lb - perhaps due to being more on the handlebars? Hoping I can still make it work, but worry that maybe my toddler is a little hefty! I assume some 3-4 years olds must be starting to get over ~40lb or ~19kg - are the 'more serious' off road front seats able to take a bit more weight perhaps? Thanks again for the time/insight! Love the website! *** EDIT *** Received the below email from Weeride - which is I think what i was getting at - I suppose it depends on whether the seat is fixed more on the handle bars or cross-bar, so to speak, in terms of weight?... Maybe that is where the iBert may suffer with a heftier baby vs. Weeride? "The weight guidelines for front bike seats are set by EU (15kgs) and US (18kgs). Any front seat saying they carry more weight does not meet the Safety Standards. They are set low as they are based on seats that attach to the handlebars where it is clearly dangerous to have too much weight. Our seat doesn’t attach in this way which is why it is unique. It actually improves the balance of the bike as the patented bar puts all the baby weight in the centre of the bike. Our seat is tested to well over the limits above and my own son used at over 20kgs. Weight is never the factor that stops a child using the seat, it is height. Because kids have different body and leg make ups, and bikes have different geometries, we don’t give an official height. We just generalise and say height issue normally occurs at aged 4."

They can let go of the handlebars and they won’t eject. Their feet are strapped down. There is no seatbelts on off-road seat for a good reason.

I am wondering if you can help me. I am not a mountain biker but I am an experienced bike commuter. I have a 3 year old and want to ride the paved trails with him. I just got the tyke toter after finding it on Amazon and reading all the good reviews, but wish I had found this video first. Any way, I haven't ridden with him in it yet but I've tried riding with it attached to my bike and I don't know how I'm supposed to mount, because the child seat sits so close to my seat, I can't standover and I can't touch the ground from my seat. It feels unsafe because of this. And when I'm pedaling I have to keep my knees pointed outward, which seems like it'll be worse when he's sitting on it. Another worry is that I am going to be leaning on top of him with my short arms. I am short, 5'1" and ride a small Marin. I am considering returning it and getting a different one. Really hoping there's a better fit out there. Could you make a recommendation for me? It looks as though the Mac ride might be the best fit, but I wanted to ask you.

The TyKe Toter was ok for its time, but we definitely would say to have a have a look at the Kids Ride Shotgun Pro or the Macride as they are both way more adjustable and safer for kids, whether you are commuting or on singletrack

Want easy on/off? Have multiple bikes you want to swap with? Have an ebike? Go Mac ride. Want to spend less? Like a lighter steering feel? No room under collar of seatpost or stem? Need a seat level adjustment? Go Shotgun. It’s all in the video...

I've just got a shotgun and it is not good at all. I've got an XXL frame and I can put the kid seat too near to the front. So during small (15°) turn the bar is hitting the 3 yo kids knee which makes this not work. In this video the top and bottom tube angle is small and those are close to each other. Take this in consideration before trying this seat. Maybe I could sell it in marketplace. :(
