Hi man, thanks for your video! one question, I see in the app settings you can set up the overcharge voltage and undervoltage. So am I true if settings these values to other range (for instance 3.1v to 4.0v to have something like using my cells 20% to 80% will avoid me to have a smart charger and be able to have my battery working longer ? did you test changing theses values ? Yes I think a maximum of 2,5-3,2V is for the discharge cutoff and 4,0-4,5V for the charge cutoff possible. But I would be carefull with these values its way easyer if you just buy a decent cc cv charger or boost converter and set the end voltage to 4,05 for example and just look at the voltage while riding so you dont get too low. This way your battery doesnt just cut of suddenly :)

Hi! Great video. I have a question. I have replaced my BMS with a "smart BMS bluetooth" 10s 60A in my ebike. My battery works and the BMS is ballancing, voltageprotection and dischargefunction seems to work fine. But when i charge the battery it doesen´t stop until it reach some safety limit (overvoltage cell och total voltage). I have play around with different setting but did´t find a limit/function to reduce chargingpower at the end of "chargingcycle" to avoid tripping. Is there a way to do this?

Hallo! Ich habe eine wichtige Frage an dich. Kann man damit auch die Leistung drosseln? Beispiel: ich stelle den BMS auf max. 20A, aber der Motor Controller zieht 35A, kommt aber nur 20A an weil durch BMS gedrosselt wird. Also es soll den Strom nicht bei erreichen der 20A komplett wie andere BMS das leider tun komplett trennen sondern drosseln. LG

Sorry für die späte antwort. Cell Level Fuses ist n interessantes Thema aber das ist eher was für 6P+ systeme und nicht für meine 12S5P Akkus wo halt im aller schlimmsten Fall 4 Zellen kaputt gehen. TVS Diode am Vesc Eingang ist n gutes thema das ich mal erwähnen muss weils echt viele VESCS da draußen retten kann. :)

I think I will go with this bms for 38 euro im trying to stick to a budget, the only thing i notice is that is nominal balance current is 50ma whereas if i pay 10 euro more for alternative on aliexpress there is one for 100ma . I dont know if that is low. I guess it should be okay with new lg mj1 cells? I read that these bms' limit the amp for chargers , what is the highest i could use on this or would you recommend? i was thinking 6 amp for fast charging to use on a 48v 14.5 Ah battery. 13s4p. and for daily charging which would be better 3 amp or 2 amp charger?

Old comment, but 2 amps for charging is already a lot, that's a 100w flowing in the battery. Unless you empty the battery every day fully, which is not recommended, 1.5A or even 1A is enough

Nope, as far as I know it does not.

I've a 16s smart bms of a battery pack but programmed for 12s lifepo4... I unscrewed the heatsink to inspect the pcb and saw the leftover 4blank connectors are just soldered and shorted together but they are connected to resistors and other components... I need to figure out some way to use it as a 15s bms please help me if possible... I don't want to buy any default bms I've 4pcs of smart bms all are 16s used as 12s....please help

Hey Leo, finde dein Longboard und die Videos dazu mega. Bin gerade auch dabei, meines ähnliches wie deines zu bauen. Für den aktuellen Schritt würde mich interessieren, ob ich zwei Antriebsstränge parallel und unabhängig verlaufen lassen kann (also 2 Stränge mit je 1xLiPo, 1xvesc, 1xMotor). Da ich aber die zwei vesc's mit nur einem 2,4GHz Empfänger steuern will, ist meine Frage, ob ich den einen Empfänger als Y mit den beiden vesc's verbinden kann. Der Rest der Stränge verliefe dann unabhängig. Eine Antwort würde mir viel Geld, Zeit und Nerv sparen. Danke dir im Vorraus!

Wenn du zwei vescs hast werden deine motoren schon völlig unabhängig voneinander angesteuert. Wir regeln schließlich nach Strom/Drehmoment, nicht nach drehzahl. Und da kannst du die zwei vescs einfach mit can verbinden

you need a antispark for that. that will do the job. If you only have small motor controllers, use something like the flipsky antispark, if you have something bigger you need to use a precharge antispark

steve in uk.hi leo.with this smart bms can use some different cells in battery i have 50 x samsung 25r and 20 panasonic 2600mah i think but panasonic on their own but wired in series

To use the on off button without precharge it is possible to connect a resistor between drain and source of the mosfets. If the controller has no consuption the capacitors will be charged and there will be no current spike while turning on the bms. This can work only with controllers that has no power consuption while off. I made this in my ebike and it is extremely usefoul because there is no need to disconnect the battery and newly make precharge. I simply shut down the controller and the capacitorswwill charge and the bms does not see a short any more.

Ok I see. I've found your anti spark or "precharger'. But that's one more power PCB bord to find a place somewhere ! I think this kind of device should be included either in the BMS or in the ESC !

Bei solchen educational videos solltest du vielleicht was mit BMS in den Titel packen *batteries Sonst aber gutes Video und vorallem informativ (wieder in die gute alte E-Bike oder EV Richtung ;) ) Hab bis jetzt noch nie von so einem BMS gehört aber ziemlich geil dass es das gibt

Do you already using the new 21700 cells ? Another interesting model is the NCR18650AU Gold Lithium endothermic cell, which gets cold by charging instead of hot.

No. 21700 are hard to get and can be quite expensive no real dealer like nkon is selling them cheap yet. NCR18650AU gold was a april fools joke btw ^^ On top of that, heat is not the issue when rapid charging. In fact my cells wont get hot even when charging with 3C. But charging this fast degrates your cells very fast.

Could you please do a video on Mosfets and more detail on precharging. Also I don't understand why you cant use this thing as a switch. Isn't that what its meant for? Thanks in advance :)

Hi you can use this as a switch. I said in the video "For turning on a electric vehicle you can't just use a normal switch" in the sense that no normal switch can handle the current. thats now how bms systems work lol. You should understand the basics of electronics first before doing something like that. To your question yes 30a smart bms would def work

dont think so. Dont know like 60€ maybe. 3 Weeks maybe. In use a few mA, but in standby less than one mA, lower than self discharge anyway

Hallo, Ich bin auch Grad am Überlegen einen größeren Akku für mein Longboard zu bauen. Hierfür würde ich 8 18650 Akkus parallel schalten und die Akkupacks bestehend aus den genannten 8 Akkus dann wiederrum in Reihe. Das Problem ist allerdings das ich die 8 Akkus die Parallel geschalten sind nicht einzeln Balancen kann. Wie löst du das Problem bei deinem Akku? PS: deine Videos sind spitze und man lernt immer wieder was neues

Also, wenn du die Akkus neu gekauft hast haben die ja normaler Weise alle ne gleiche Spannung (kannst du ja einfach Mal mit einem Multimeter nachprüfen). Und wenn du die 8 Zellen jetzt parallel schaltest dann halten die, wenn du die auflädtst/entlädtst auch immer die gleiche Spannung. Also musst du die gar nicht balancen. Wie viele Akkus möchtest du denn in Reihe schalten? Wenn du nämlich 12s und 8p haben möchtest wird das ziemlich schwer. Besser wäre es, wenn du nur 3 oder 4 parallel schalten würdest, dann sparst du Geld und Gewicht. Kauf dir von dem Geld lieber richtig gute Zellen. ;)

nice video... quick question - am I correct in thinking I can set my overvoltage at say 14.5v and reconnect at 13.2v on a 12v 4s system ( using my charger and solar that uncontrolled run to 14.7v ) which will have the net result of cutting off at 14.5 and cutting out the float voltage on my lead acid equipment I m hoping to be able to make function in this manner ??

for that you can build a simple transistor zener diode circuit that switches at the wanted voltage? btw using solar and lead acid is a terrible combination. Lead acid batterys have a terrible efficency which completely destroys the purpose of solar panels.

The bms is smarter than you ve noticed and i expected. it can be used with lead acid charging equipment be it solar charger or alternator and once its full displays overvoltage and will not reconnect thus it offers a true fully protected drop in replacement for a 12v battery..

I m talking dropping a 4 cell 12v lithium with smart bms straight into my rv with no changes to solar regulator or 240v charger or alternator on 40amp fuse. it charges the battery full then I get overload lockout that cuts charge and keeps it locked off this means I can fully charge safely with original van equipment making a battery using this bms a direcxt protected replacement !

Wo kann ich denn solche Management Systeme herbekommen hab schon einiges gefunden aber nicht für solch hohe Spannungen> 72V oder ist es einfacher 2Stück Akku 36V -10S6P in Reihe zusammenzuschalten und die Akkus voneinander unabhängig einzeln zu laden da die meisten fertigen 36V Akkus ihr eigenes BMS haben? Beim BMS müsste ich doch lediglich auf die Menge der in Serie geschalteten Zellen achten egal wie viele ich dann parallel dazuschalte oder?

@@Pryside No my point is that the esc will take 40 A but i used high A battery in order to get no voltage sag ... But my bms on the battery is of 15 A ... So is the battery only outputing 15 A to the esc ? Which is designed to work for 24 A ? & I don't want to use low amps as it reduces performance .... But my + & - ends of battery go directly in the esc , as - end also goes into B- terminal of bms , so is the battery able to output 40 A to the esc instead of 15 ??

Can't find the app, does it have a new name? Would be happy to know.

There is no 42V battery out there. You mean a 10S with 36V nominal propably. What do you want to change? Use a 12S battery on the same bms?

@@Pryside u have got Acton s1 skateboard, the range is 5 to 6 kilometers with the stock 10s battery pack. The reason why I'm asking is because I want to make diy battery pack and fully fill the case, it will fit in 12 batteries or less. The motherboard ESC works with 36 volts. So I was wondering if I could make high voltage battery pack and undervolt it to 36v. I guess I will have to use DC DC converter then.

Can you explain how you would wire this BMS with cells in parallel, e.g. 12s3p pack

you can imagine paralell cells just as one big cell. Paralell cells balance each other constantly automatically. And wiring up a bms is really simpel, a wire goes to every single voltage level. from 0V...3,6V... 7,2V to the 43V is the case of 12S

@@Pryside SORRY about that -- too much coffee ... we have 3 x (3.2v x 4) LIFEPO4 batteries .. our 3.2v LiFePO4 batteries are 200aH each ... THUS we have (3) 12.8v 200aH batteries running in parellel (4 - 3,2V batteries each)... I want to be able to put the batteries in parallel to give me 12.8V 600aH BUT also be able to monitor all the 3.2 batteries off of one BMS via bluetooth ...

You have a really wierd usecase... You can always use the smart bms just for charging and discharge directly. But you propably have something wrong. No electric vehicle is usefull at 12V 150A High amps always means high losses

Paralelle zellen balancieren sich ja gegenseitig. Solange die spannungskurve gleich ist (gleicher zelltyp) kannst du so viele wie du willst paralell schalten. Sobald eine eine minimal höhere spannung als die andere hat wird diese halt beim fahren mehr belastet. Somit haben alle jederzeit die exakt selbe spannung.

Kann ich diesen bms auch für lipos benutzten da ich mein e bike mit solchen betreibe und müsste ich was spezielles dabei beachten

Joah geht schon. Musst halt die Cutoff Voltage in der app passend einstellen. Auf 3,4V oder was deine halt laut Datenblatt haben. :)

Ich hab ne frage. Ich hab ein ncm moskow gekauft. Mit bms und so. Der sagt mir auch immer schön das sie Batterie noch 44 volt hat oder so. Hab 600 Watt Akku. Hab mir so ein tuning Display gekauft. Da es bis 45kmh können soll. Aber mein Rad fährt nicht schneller als 30khm der Motor ist nur zur Hälfte ausgelastet. Hast du ne Ahnung was ich machen kann?

Du meinst das Bionx BMS das ich im video gezeigt hab? Nein die haben ein N channel fet vor dem ausgang, sonst könnten die ja garnicht abschalten wenn der akku kurz vorm brennen ist.

This topic is a bit complicated will make a video about it, i developed a solution for big motor controllers to turn them on without destroying mosfets of antisparks... Will propably take a few weeks. Has something to do with the inrush current and the capacitors not being charged

I think vruzend Kits are in theory a great Idea but in practice completely shit. My friend tried to built a ebike with them and never got these things to work properly. Just pressing contactors onto a battery cant withstand any shocks and will loosen over time. No matter how hard he pressed them on he never got a good connection... They simply dont work. Many people like jehugarcia even tested them and had the exact same problems.

I dont know the exact nubers but it must be somewhere in the region of 1mA, lower than the self discharge of a lithium battery itself. So the usual 1-2% per month

@Leo Pryside hey.. ich habe deine Videos geliebt oder liebe deine Kreativität nach wie vor. Ich verstehe jedes Wort was du in den Englisch basierten Videos sagst. Mir geht es überhaupt nicht um den Aspekt des nicht verstehens deiner Videos vielmehr um die Art wie du mit deiner Community redest. Jeder Verbesserungsvorschlag wird von dir patzig geantwortet.Du stellst dich extrem über einen Großteil deiner deutschsprachigen Community mit deinem Großmaß an english skills und lässt genau sowas schön raushängen mit sachen wie „Laber mich nicht voll" es ist in manchen Teilbereichen deiner Elektronik Projekte völlig ausreichend den englischen Fachbegriff sowie allgemeine Englisch Kenntnisse für Foren etc zu haben. Nur weil einige sich hier nach deutschen Videos von dir sehnen brauchst du dich noch lange nicht so gegen deine Community lehnen. Traurige Entwicklung dir scheint der berufliche Erfolg aufgrund deiner Videos wohl zu Kopf Gewachsen zu sein.

Du sagtest vor etwas mehr als einem Jahr, dass es sich warscheinlich lohnen würde das E-Longboard zu bauen und 900€ zu investieren. Ich überlege, mir auch ein E-Longboard zu bauen. Würdest du mir davon abraten oder nicht?

Also wenn du Geld, Zeit und dich von Rückschlägen nicht entmutigen lässt dann kann ich dir das nur empfehlen. Außerdem lernst du bei dieser Art Projekten auch was. ;)

I also have this BMS but the App doesnt work in Pocophone... i wish there was a better app.

Hi, keine Ahnung ob noch jemand den Kommentar ließt oder beantwortet. Probier's halt mal. Ich könnte mir vorstellen so ein BMS in meiner Gartenhaus Solaranlage zu integrieren. Ich habe dort ein Solarpanel mit ca. 350 W und zur Zeit noch eine Autobatterie (12V) die ich aber mittelfristig durch eine LI Batterie austauschen möchte. Macht das Sinn? Funktioniert das?? Was muss ich da machen??? Danke und Gruß aus Weissach siggi 👍

Das funktioniert und das ist auch an sich ne gute idee. Wenn du bereit bist selber bisschen zu basteln, kannst du dir ne batterie spotwelden. Dazu kommt die Tage noch ein weiteres video. Ansonsten kannst du dir auch einfach nen großen 10S lipo akku von hobbyking oder so kaufen. Da kannst du dann einfach so ein smart BMS anschließen. Aber da ist die spannung dann höher. Wenn du es wie dein bleiakku nutzen willst, musst du halt n 3S holen und dann n normales bms nutzen

Die kapazität die verwendet wird um zu schätzen wie viel % der akku noch übrig hat. Die % anzeige verwendet den wert quazi als referenz was 100% ist

Die Videos sind deswegen auf Englisch um mehr Leute zu erreichen weil auch die Technik dahinter aus dem englischen kommt Software z.b. Man könnte ja streiten ob er das Video jetzt auf deutsch nochmals aufnimmt oder nur Untertitel auf deutsch Drübermacht. Da sieht man eigendlich das in Deutschland schlecht Englisch beigebracht wird.

englisch is schon die bessere entscheidung langfristig. die deutsche zuschauerschaft für solchen inhalt ist schon sehr limitiert. warum sollte man den rest der welt aussperren. dauert nur etwas bis es in fahrt kommt. langfristig fährt er damit aber deutlich besser.. und wer heutzutage nichtmal mehr genug englisch für so ein video versteht, schränkt sich sowieso selber massiv ein, verpasst das beste was das internet so zu bieten hat und sollte da lieber abhilfe schaffen statt darauf zu pochen dass sich die inhalte an die eigenen mängel anpassen.

nope. Under-meaning below-discharge-meaning when having a load connected. Disables your battery when you get below a certain voltage.

Haha, nice. Kann dir jetzt schon sagen dass das 1. Zu schwer sein wird 2. Unnötig viel platz verschwendet und 3. Du die reichweite nie benutzen wirst. Hatte n kumpel der das gleiche gemacht hat und dann nach n paar fahrten auch gemerkt hat wie scheiße das ist. Ich fahr grad 12S3P 30q und das reicht schon mehr als genug ^^ Btw. Wenn du n vesc nimmst würd ich hart 12s empfehlen, damit hast du so viel mehr leistung :)

Mal sehen hab jetzt 2 jahre in nem startup gearbeitet, hatte viel positives und negatives. Daher würd ich aktuell tendieren entweder selbst was zu starten oder bisschen bei großen Unternehmen mal reinschauen. Aber sehn wir mal in 3,5 jahren nochmal :D

All types of BMS become "not smart" when you use multiple cells in parallel like 10S-2P, or 3P and so on. They only smart with 10S-1P when single cell is being monitored. And its pretty insane to use multiple BMS's in your setup if you're more then 10S-1P. I wish there is a better solution for it... Great video though, i will order one. Thanks!

Ne Powerbank mit 68 Zellen bauen? Ja aber für was denn ^^ wann und wozu braucht man denn so viel. Ich hab ne 10Ah Anker Powerbank die mein Handy 3 mal aufladen kann und in meine Hosentasche passt. Wüsste nicht wozu man jeh mehr als das braucht.

@@Pryside im Grunde war das nur eine Theorie Andreas für Klassenfahrten z.b. eine 12 stündige Klassenfahrt nach Frankreich oh Mann im Bus quasi unendlich von den Maßen her würde dies aber ein Kamerarucksack problemlos reinpassen wie viele Zellen nutzt du für dein ich sag mal Elektrofahrzeuge kann man Zellen lagern also ungefähr ein halbes Jahr ohne Ladezyklus

@@PatVX-kt6cf wenn du sie mit 4V /80% liegen lässt müssten die dir etwa 1,5 jahre halten. Aber mal im ernst. Meine mini powerbank aus 3 18650 35E zellen hat 35Wh, mein handy hat 11Wh. Dad sind 46Wh. Mein handy verbraucht bei Videostreamen auf 100% helligkeit mit Mobilen Daten an etc. Etwa 3-4W. Also kann ich etwa 11 stunden am stück videos schauen ohne probleme. Das reicht glaub mehr als genug. Hol dir einfach die 10Ah Anker, die ist echt gut und kostet 10€ oder so 😂

Great valuable content!!! Very good explanation of a BMS!! That popular Smart bluetooth BMS also has advantage that is very simple/standard technology and so it is easy to repair or mod. The PCB is simple and dual layer only, which is great. The ICs used are very popular and are technology used on Arduino world, like the microcontroller that is the same as Arduino and the cells balance IC that is very well known and there are OpenSource firmware libraries to control it. Also the bluetooth module is very well known and standard technology. Haha, thanks. You're absolutly right, not only that but people who dont speak english dont understand half of my german videos anyway. Yeah I will try that. Changed it to USA. Maybe it will have a effect. But its propably going to be quite difficult to build up a english speaking audience.

Also ich hab die ant-smartBMS mit Bluetooth die kann 300A händeln und geht von glaube 12-24s und als App nehm ich die Vortex VBMS 😉

holy shit, interessanted bms. Aber weiß nicht welche applikation von 300A wirklich vorteile hat. Ich hab ein 60A BMS in meinem ebike, das kann 120A peak aushalten und ich wüsste nicht wieso ich jemals was fetteres bräuchte... so viel gas kann ich gar nicht geben dass das heiß wird.

@@Pryside Ja ich kann doch aber die Einstellungen so einstellen das es z.b. nicht mehr als 120A abgibt dann ist der kostenfaktor bei den Unterschiedlichen Modellen so gering das sich das nicht lohnt eine BMS mit 150A oder 100A da bezahl ich lieber die 10Euro mehr und hab gleich eine BMS die von 8-24s geht und ich kann die dann auch noch verstellen von z.b. 100A-300A was die anderen nicht können Achso und ich empfehle die over-current protection auf 0 zu stellen weil das sonst das überschießen zulässt und das deinen Akku Schaden kann das hatte zumindest einer empfohlen und dann auch in der App mit nem neuen Update in die Beschreibung rein geschrieben das das setzen auf 0 empfohlen wird klingt auch logisch finde ich.Jedenfalls hast du dich mit dem kelly Controller genauer beschäftigt was fährst du da für Einstellungen?Und was bewirkt denn wenn man das eine höher und das andere runterstellt ?Hab's zwar so hinbekommen das es geht aber irgendwie hab ich das Gefühl das das immer mal weniger Leistung hat mal mehr dann finde ich die topspeed irgendwie langsam da bin ich mit meinem 1000W Motor schneller gefahren ca 70-74Km/h und jetzt komm ich so auf 62-65km/h nervt doch das man die Drehzahl nicht höher bekommt 😢🤔 kannst mir auch über Facebook als pn antworten ich heiße dort Thomas Krieger 😉

@@Pryside, dort lädst du dann Y Videos auf deutsch hoch und auf diesen Kanal X Videos auf englisch. Nach einiger Zeit kannst du dann Y Videos auf dem en. Kanal und X auf dem de. hochladen. Du musst und wirst das Video nicht exakt gleich machen. Und wenn man etwas wiederholt wird es ja bekanntermaßen besser. X und Y stehen für jeweils ein Themengebiet.

@@RealKugor ich glaub du unterschätzt 1. die zeit die es kostet ein video komplett neu zu machen und 2. Die Tatsache dass ich sowieso schon wahnsinnig viel zu tun hab und froh bin wenn ich alle zwei wochen mal ein video fertig bekomm. Leute die die videos wirklich interessant finden und was damit anfangen können, denen ist das völlig egal ob das englisch oder deutsch ist. Weil die die her rumheulen verstehen sowieso bei deutschen Videos auch kein wort.

You say its cheap, but you never say how much. You don’t give enough information to identify this good one from the poor ones.

Honestly if your cells are new they will balance automatically. BMS are interesting with old or bad quality cells. I use battery log system same as in my drones. And balance them every 20 charges. The problem of these BMS they are aging the battery trying always to balance them. And often they are defective and kill you battery pack. I repair a defective one because of 2 cold solder joints. But I understand for mass production you need it because people are not specialist of li ion. Thx for the video. Subscriber.

Yes thats how I thought a few years ago too about bms systems. The reason this one works is because it doesnt do all the stuff you just mentioned. It has a hysteresis so that it only balances after a delta of a programmable voltage. I've set mine to balance after 0,04V difference. And never below that. Also this one doesnt break, used it in many applicatioons and it has a wrong-wiring-protection and many other features. Its really well engineered, not like 99% of the bms systems you'll find out there

@@Pryside Hi thank you so much for these information. The feature you're mentioned is effectively very powerful. This certainly will change my distrust on these systems. I guess I will check AliExpress for 12s, 16s and 20s ones. By the way I replace the bushing on the verreal F1 with arangatang nipples, red bones bearings and arangatang 77a 85 mm caguama. And it is not the same board. Very smooth very carvy. Finally your video is a gem because I have learned something new and promising to improve battery life.
