*THIS IS UNEXPECTED!! Are there any that you think should be in there?*
I have the Callaway edge set and love them! Added a MD5 in a 50 and a 60 to fill the gaps. Will upgrade the driver and possibly add a 3h but I can’t fault them for bang for your buck. Has taken my handicap down from high 20’s to 22 👍🏻
Cobra Fly XL should be in there, it's a better balance of quality and budget than literally every single other package set on this list.
One of my buddies that I play golf with has the Stix set. This is his second season with them. They have held up well. He crushes the driver. Great set of clubs.
Stix set should have been at least #2. I owned that set and can say 100% that it's a great set. Every club performs pretty equal to mainstream brands. The black does wear but not as fast as most will think. Driver, fairway and hyb are not adjustable but again they perform super well and well worth the cost. Yes you do have to buy a bag, but bags can be inexpensive on the 2nd hand market.
When I first took up golf as a kid I just had a handful of junior irons I’d hit at the range. When I joined my local club aged 16 and took golf seriously I got an adult Donnay package set for Christmas in 2000. I got 1, 3 and 5 wood with old skool pom-pom head covers, 4-9 irons, PW, SW plus a putter. From memory it was around £150/170 for everything! I had them for a number of years and the only thing I changed was the putter. I got an odyssey 2-ball for my 18th birthday which I still use today and looks brand new.
Alex, I agree 1000% that the Stix clubs should be at #1, or at least #2 whether you're a beginner or experienced golfer. I got a chance to try them out while playing with a friend and was surprised at how nice they were, even the putter! You cant beat a new set of DTC clubs, and I think "Robin Golf" needs to be included in this discussion as well because you can get a 9-club starter set from them for around $900 with a carry/stand bag and headcovers. Swung a used iron at a PGA Superstore and it was quite nice. Great content, as usual!
The point about budget and longevity is spot on. I bought a Ben Sayers set from Aldi for my son for £150. They went down to £100 so I bought a set for myself. The driver and the putter are very poor. Better to spend a bit extra to get a bit more in those 2 areas. Having said that the irons (6,8,P and S) are really good. The 3 wood is workable and the 23* hybrid isn't bad.
Getting back into Golf in 2021 after 10 years of not playing, i got the 2019 Strata Set and they served well. The putter was the first thing I upgraded and them went to the woods and most recently the irons. Just need to upgrade my wedges
Where's the Wilson package sets?? I bought my Wilson X31 mens all graphite completed golf set with stand bag - 10 Piece Golf Set for £229 back in 2018. I still have them till now and have been a joy to own them.
Really like my Stix set.... started to get back in to golf last year and needed to replace my 20+year old clubs. Friends really like them too when they try them out.
Just got from OfferUp a callaway Strata ultimate 16 pcs women’s set for my wife brand new! The seller bought it last year but never got to go golfing. Every thing was still wrapped new and sealed box it currently retails for 600.00 US dollars at Dicks Sporting goods. I got them for 125.00 US dollars 🤯
I've never purchased a package set. My 1st clubs were hand me downs from my Dad. The Stix set looks really nice and I would not be shy of being seen using them. Golf snobbery is a real thing and my dad could care less what people thought of him. He played Lynx black cat irons with a Dunlop Loco driver for years and Top Flight balls. The only premium club he bought was a 2 Ball putter. He shot high 70's to low 80's into his 80's... Indian not the Arrow
Stix should be no1 simply because of the quality wedges, giving consistent gapping throughout the set. As an aside, my first set of clubs ever were Donnay pinseekers (£100 ) which took me from total beginner to 14 handicap in two years, which just proves practice and technique are the most important equipment in your golf game. Expensive equipment just enhances your hard work.
I just bought my husband the Callaway XR set, I hope he loves it!
I started with a Strata set in 2016 to just hit balls at the range with my drinking buddies. When I actually started playing, I quickly wanted to upgrade because of my own snobbery. The clubs perform well enough and the grips are quite exceptional for the price of the set but I found a new bag and some second-hand TMs to revamp my set. The all matching red or blue is kinda bleh lol. Still use the strata 5H though. It has been through a lot.

I have them and 4/5 H and 3W are sweet to hit. Driver is ok, but I haven’t considered my putter as the issue. 🤔 Something to look into.
I’ve heard that Costco or Kirkland will be coming out with a new set soon. Supposedly a P790 type iron and priced around $750 but I’ve yet to see it. The Strata set sells well at Dicks sporting goods for beginners. The price is usually the number one reason. Agree Stix or the Callaway sets are the best choices.
Getting back into golf so picked up the Callaway set, great set, bit pricey but feels and looks good. Will use it for 2-3 years then get a custom fitted set for sure.
In the spring of 2020 I bought a box set of Wilson Ultras and golfed with them up until this spring when I got fitted for cobras
I replace my shaft more often than my driver. I still use epic flash and love it. Maybe thinking about picking up another new/old stock. But I've been eyeing the paradym, didn't like the Max or Rogue. Any input to share?
I started out with a Callaway Strata set. I presently play Takomo 101 one length system for 2023.
The strata set is good if you are beginning. I got them as beginner and have been practicing constantly for 6 months. On the verge of breaking 90. Last couple of rounds I hit 92.& 93. The irons are showing the wear and abuse and its about time for me to upgrade now to better set that will last longer. I dont regret getting the strata. Was great to learn from, dig in the ground with, etc. Until I improved.

how many mulligans and gimmies though?
Those macgregor sets can be bought from sports direct for £185 now, it seems to be the cart bag version that has the CG3000 if you want the stand bag option ots the CG2000 but same price of £185.
Putting a $202 set in with the other ones that are $500+ is pretty insane. I think the Strata is PERFECT for a beginner trying to get out to learn. Rather they spend $200 on a set and $600 on lessons when you're starting out. For mid-Handicap, Stiks/Taylormade/Callaway set is probably where it's at.
I bought the Benross HTX set from American Golf, it’s a pretty nice set for the pennies.
My 1st set was a used set gifted to me one day he came home with 2 used sets for us to spend time together. Later I upgraded it to Callaway woods and Ping irons I had gotten in free giveaways. I hardly played and sold them. 20+ years later I find myself getting back into the game, I had a course pro recommendation of Tour edge clubs. I found a box set and bought it. The driver shaft snapped on hole 16, I figured I could use the 3 wood in place of the driver in the upcoming tournament. I thought I would hit the range. The 3 wood cracked after about 12-14 hits. Both clubs hit nothing but the ball. When I mentioned it to the course pro, he said that box sets in general are terrible for longevity. No more box sets for me. I found a nice set of Cobra clubs, then Taylormade clubs. I will still with my solid used sets until I get better.
I have the callaway edge set from Costco and they are amazing for the money ok no bag but I already had one
Here in the USA, I bought a Top Flite Senior flex golf set from Dick’s Sporting Goods for $259. I am female, but on the tall side, so the golf guy pointed me that set. So far I have replaced the driver and 3 wood. Plan on getting irons from Sun 70 soon. It’s a good set for someone who didn’t have any gear at all. Bag is decent too.
A package set only has a benifit if it can be expanded on, can you add clubs to the set/upgrade clubs easily or are you starting from scratch if you want to upgrade/improve your set
i bought the Macgregor DCT 4000 reviewed by Rick Shiels set as I was starting back again £359 from Costco.. the irons and hybrids are good the bag is ok and for the money it is really really good., the driver is not great and as Rick predicted has been already been swapped out for a Cobra but using affordable golf I can pay monthly
My first set of clubs were a Dunlop package set and they were good for learning excluding the driver which was trash.
Interesting. Since I just commented on ‘what would be a good set for a high handicapper’ on your AEG channel. Meaning…a set that will help with game improvement and not be outgrown too soon. Currently, I’m using a package set (from Costco), they are Taylormade R7 XD. Do you know this set? They are ok but, I need to correct my swing to really do better. That’s why I watch your videos.
Callaway Edge set being sold in Costco should have been added in the line up it's a better set than the XR set or the Strata set

What's the downside of this set,?
I have a package set. Cobra flyxl. It’s a decent set had for less than a year and 4h needed repair which cobra is doing. Good for price
Tour Edge Bazooka Black set should be in there as a new golfer I bought this set for two reasons first I thought as a new golfer I would damage clubs whilst I am learning and Tour Edge gives a lifetime guarantee meaning any damaged clubs or bag will be replaced free at anytime. 2nd it is a full set comprising:- 10.5 Driver, 3w, 5w, 4hy, 5hy, 6-9i, pw, sw and mallet putter with a stand bag. £549 so far i have only been to the range testing all the clubs but I am very impressed.
I've had my Strata's (red set) for 4 years now, and the driver finally dented last night. Been a great value set for $500
Callaway Edge set from Costco is an outstanding set for $529 (USA) you just can't do better....set includes an Oddessy putter as well

Since I have never putted well (and don't get a chance to practice much) the Strata putter issue is a non-issue to me. As I commented on another channel, my experience with a "bargain" set (Dunlop) was SO BAD (heads separated from shafts, grips deteriorated IN 15 TO 20 ROUNDS-no, they were not left in a hot vehicle) I would shy from the Mac's or Strata (even if "owned" by Callaway).
I just ordered the Taylormade RBZ Speedlite. Haven't tried them out yet but will let you know
Bought a tour edge golf set was even able to get them with one inch extensions overall fantastic clubs for 699 dollars
I have the Strata set right now. I can verify that the putter is absolute trash, but so is the driver. It sounds like hitting the ball with a tin can off the tee. The irons and PW are pretty decent and hit nicely.
Callaway does own Strata so that's probably why this set was ranked so high, but yeah, it's not on comparison with STIX set.
First year playing and got the Stix basic package set not even the full set and within 6 months got 85 at my local 18 course average around 90-95 but man every club was crazy good for never having lessons or playing. Light weight, sharp looking, and crazy good accuracy when hit proper. My driver goes 305-310 and I know I’m not hitting it perfect I’m pretty sure with proper lessons and better technique it will go even further!
Thinking about getting back into golf. Haven't played in 20 years. And am thinking of getting a new set. And after this review I may go with the MacGregor's

Lmao thats what i did. I had my old set of mcgregors and i said f it and ised them. Stayed within reason with friends that have been playing way longer. Think im gonna go with a set of stix tho
Have you seen the Costco Callaway edge set?
Currently looking for a set to start my golf journey. & I Haven't a clue what to get 😭
Strata is Callaway so in terms of branding it still hits hard.
You can build a set from one of the DTC companies for close to the price of a package set.
Takomo Irons need a little love
Bought the Callaway Strata 14 piece set. Added clubs to it to get my 14 clubs and full gaps. Was good enough till I got faster. A package set (so to speak) can be obtained from Caley Golf some time back. That looks very well worth it at around 900£. Ch2ck mic levels. Seems kinda tinny.
Is that the same Stix brand as was owned by the Kilbryde Golf Manufacturing Co?
I've been told Tour Edge Bazooka 470 are worth the money coming in at £549
The wilson set for 400$ looks nice The calaway set from costco has gotten really good reviews for 550$

I'm just about ready to purchase the Costco set. I stepped away from playing about 10 years ago. Got pretty good and splurged on a custom set. They fit like a glove. Tried the several days ago and couldn't hit the side of a barn from the inside. Oh, I'm about to turn 75 and steel shafts with forged irons aren't going to cut it anymore. As for the snobbery, it probably played on my decision but at this stage of my life, I really could care less about what others may think.

I can never find the Costco callaway set in stock. I’ve found the left handed set but never right handed
What about the callaway edge from costco
Cobra set looks good
Hadn't you reviewed Fazer set,for list?
It's worth mentioning that Stix has 9, 11 or 14 set....
Costco Callaway set is $500. Gotta be somewhere in top 5
Yes Callaway at the top 100% Stix set 2
In Canada , XR 1899.99 ,RBZ 1499.99,Air X 1699.99 , plus 12 percent tax's . The RBZ is our top seller , with the Cobra close second .
I think tour edge should be in there
Some of these prices are insanely off in the states. The Strata set here is $600, the callaway xr is $1400

Yea. I was lucky to purchase a brand new Strata ultimate set brand new in the box and each clubs still wrapped never used from OfferUp. The lady bought them for some golfing social event but never ended up going and sold them. I bought them for 125.00 US dollars. They retail at Dicks sporting goods for 600
Isn’t Strata a Callaway brand?
MacGregor set is now £180 not £370 like suggested. If buying for first time, please seek further advice as thiusandas of BETTER sets for HALF the price of these suggestions
What about Ram
Good lord, too early. The MacGregors are almost always nice, especially for the price.

This was an erratic video and woudlnt help beginners, nor experienced for that matter... 2nd place (£200) 1st place (£1,200) There's so many big brand budget sets half that price and in-between, this would very much put someone off playing if buying a set while seeing that "budget" sets are £1,200. Also, the Macgregor set is now only £180 not 3/400 lol
To say $900 is “cheap” is hilarious. You can get a set of premium used irons for that money
Golf snobbery....... Pathetic!!!!!!!!?
I bought 2 full sets this winter! One from Ram Golf and one off Amazon called Confidence! Also purchased a full set of Wizard hybrid irons from McGregor! Only for content, not for my actual play time but I'm thinking of putting in those McGregor's! 🐊🏌🇺🇸⛳️
Loved the review. I tried to order these clubs and for a, I cannot try before I buy club I want what I want. This company absolutely SUCKS. I offered over retail, had vendors inquire for me and all the same. They are rubber stamped Chinese garbage as their customer service has proved to me. I play a longer game out of the box, I wanted that sexxy black set and I wanted the wedges to be the stainless as they are my most used clubs. I know they wont replace my wedges every 2-3 months for life and I know the traps and the soil I have in my climate isn't like the southern style. The wedges in the black finish will have no finish in a few rounds. They refused my purchase request. So not only are they a can't try before you buy and claim to customize, they won't. Best of luck to anyone wanting these clubs. Can I at least get the wedges in the silver and the rest in the black? I’ll re shaft the ones I need changed at my local pro shop.
